Chapter Eighty-Nine: Not Around

The room remained silent for a couple of very long moments, Fred and Max both staring at their old friend with no words, but I knew their thoughts were probably going at a hundred miles an hour. For them, they’d been forced to accept that they may never see their friend again, but now to see him stood right in front of them as though nothing had happened must be messing with their minds. But not only that, Fred was certain it was Paul who had rushed over attempting to kill me but missing and nearly killing him!

“I understand that this is a lot which is why I hope you also, understand why I didn’t tell you this morning, we had so much at stack so I needed you to be as normal as you could to not raise any alarms.” I say standing in front of Paul slightly a little worried that Max would get up and try to hill him, something we can’t have happen or our star witness would be gone in a flash!

Max’s eyes do turn to me where I couldn’t deny that I did grow a little nervous, something I had never been around Max. His eyes do soften a little once he realises this before his sits up straight in his chair.

“I do have a question, but it’s mainly for the man stood beside you.” He says in his deep annoyed voice before his eyes turned to Paul, who also didn’t know where to look in this moment.

But before anyone could blink, the secret door to the tunnels opens and in walks Griffin. A smile on his face initially, but once he too caught sight of Paul, he stopped dead in his tracks.

“What the fuck, I thought you were dead!” He exclaims in a state of confusion pointing over to Paul, who was equally as shocked as Griffin.

“I thought you were in hiding in some rundown cabin!” Paul shouts back neither man having a clear rundown of all that has happened over these parts few weeks, which told me how much I was truly going to have to say.

“This is my point! There is so much that needs to be explained, so if you all take a seat and shut the fuck up, I can explain.” I say having enough of the back and forth, it really wasn’t getting us anywhere.

But before I could even go to explain what was needed, Griffin soon steps forward, taking me by the arm and pulling me away from Paul and over to stand behind him.

“I’ve heard about what that fucker tried to pull the other week, I can assure you if you tried it again, you wouldn’t get far.” He growls looking over at Paul who now stood alone in the middle of the room, but if Griffin knew Paul tried to kill me, then why was he surprised that he was alive, I don’t think a ghost would try and kill me!

“I know what I’m saying is so fucked up, but you have to believe me when I say I didn’t want to kill Rose, I would never even think about harming a single hair on her head! Not only is she the Queen but she’s also mated to my best friend!” Paul says trying to make people see that Julia really had her claws in him, but Max was quick to cut into the conversation before he could continue.

“Then why did you?” Is all he asks in that same dark tone as before, it’s clear he’s still very angry over what happened but honestly, I don’t blame him.

“I didn’t have any other choice man; you have to believe me. Your mother kept repeating if I didn’t do exactly what she told me, she’d get one of her many spies to go and kill my entire family!” Paul explains with a sigh, I understood what he meant easily, but with the look on Fred’s face, I could see he didn’t understand.

“You take orders from Julia now?” Fred asks with a raised eyebrow as though he didn’t believe a word Paul was saying, with the look on Paul’s face, I could see he was getting a little overwhelmed with all the many questions being thrown at him, so I knew I needed to step in.

“This is why you all need to allow me to explain, this may not be making sense to you, but I understand!” I exclaim having enough of saying the same things over and over again, I didn’t spend weeks looking into this just to be ignored! “Last time that I was here, I explained that it was Julia who had been behind all of this but in that moment, I didn’t know why but I do now. The day before my coronation, I was walking…. well, being carried into the palace by Macaulay.” I say remembering how tired my feet felt, a little laugh erupting from the other side of the room from Macauley.

“On our journey, we were stopped by this man who introduced himself as Wade, a childhood friend of your mothers.” I say whilst I see realisation soon take over Griffin’s face, well at least I know I’m making some sense.

“I remember Wade, he was around all the time whilst we were going up, in fact, he was around more than mother was.” Griffin stated turning to look at Max, who I could see was trying to remember but due to him being a few years younger than Griffin, there would be some gaps.

“He explained he had some information that he had wanted to share for so long but couldn’t due to fear that he’d be killed for doing so. But now I was taking over the case, it felt as though it was time. He explained to me how your mother had planned all of this to happen, the death of Jared’s mate Remi, all of it.” I explain wanting them to see how much thought that monster had put into this, she needs to be stopped before all her plans come into force.

“But didn’t you say the Alpha told you his son accidentally killed Jared’s mate whilst protecting the pack?” Fred once again asks where I have to nod my head, at least I know I was listened to!

“That’s what confused me when I heard it, but Wade explained Julia had planned all of that to happen in that way, due to Julia’s unhealthy obsession with Jared. She needed Jared more than anything so knew the only way to get that, was dispose of his mate.” I explain the main motive behind this all, where I catch the two brothers turn to look at each other not only shocked, but rather confused.

“That is the reason your mother was not around much when you were growing up, she was with Jared getting as much time with the man she was obsessed with as she could. She only kept your father around because she was Queen and knew she had to follow the correct protocol, you know finding your mate, getting married and having kids. This also being the reason your father had to take a more active role in running the kingdom and being your father.” I explain with a little sigh, that was so much for Thomas to take on, but he still did it because he loved his kids, his kingdom but also, his mate who didn’t love him back.

“Now that you mention it, I do have this vivid memory of mum always inviting her two friends over for dinner almost every night at one point. She would kick every cook or maid out of the kitchen because she declared that these were her friends and she was going to make them food, not even dad was allowed in the room I went in one day because I had a nightmare and she slapped little 6-year-old me up the face!” Griffin exclaimed bringing us right to my next point, but I couldn’t help but place my hand on his arm after hearing the awful way his mother treated him even at that age!

“The reason she wouldn’t allow anyone in that kitchen was because she was poising Jared’s mate, slowly with every meal that she would make. His mate Remi began to get so sick where in the end, she was going to die but for your mother, she needed it to be sooner once the couple announced they were expecting a baby. This enraged your mother as she always pictured it was her who should be carrying Jared’s baby so she knew she had to get rid of this woman before she could give birth.” I begin to explain this crazy story and the awful things which were going around Julia’s head at the time. “She would tell Jared that the only way his mate was going to get better was this special medicine which only one selfish Alpha had, the Alpha of The Shadow Wolf Pack. The couple was desperate and went straight there, but it was a lie, your mother knew that and sent that poor woman and her unborn baby to their deaths.” I explain with a sigh, it still cuts me up that Remi, never had a chance at life or to meet the baby she so desperately wanted.

“When Jared returned home devastated due to his mate's death, your mother acted shocked and told Jared they would need to get their revenge. But we know now how awful that plan went, where she had to rush back to your father and claim she hated Jared, when in reality, she still loved him to death.” I say looking at each of them before Paul steps forward and speaks for the first time in awhile.

“That’s the same way she’s killing your father.” Paul chimed in where even I have to look over at him in a state of shock.

Well, this is new information.
