Chapter 16
I was feeling restless as I waited for him to return with Norman. Suddenly, I spotted Alice rushing towards me, clearly worried. She urged me to leave the castle with her to check on Norman.
"I think their group was attacked by enemies," she said with concern.
"Come with me. Norman needs my help," she insisted.
I stopped her immediately, reminding her that Alpha Damien had strictly forbidden us from leaving the castle. It frustrated me to wait here for their return, feeling anxious for some reason. Despite wanting to retreat to my room and rest, I couldn't.
Moments later, the gate swung open, revealing a bloodied Norman riding a wolf, who turned out to be Alpha Damien. Alice rushed to Norman, embracing him. Alpha Damien shifted into human form and called some pack members to take Norman to the hospital. He approached me with a smile, but I just glared at him, ignoring him due to my annoyance.
"I'll go with you, Alice," I said firmly.
We hurried into the castle to follow Norman to a room. The doctor arrived and prevented us from entering. Alice paced nervously in front of me.
"Stay calm, Alice. Norman will be fine," I reassured her. Alpha Damien came over, but I continued to ignore him.
I refused to even look at him. I knew I shouldn't act this way, but I couldn't help feeling angry towards him.
"What happened to Norman, Alpha? Why is he the only one who returned?" Alice inquired anxiously.
"He was the sole survivor of the group," Alpha replied sadly.
"Why did they leave? What were they doing out there?" Alice pressed.
"It was necessary. One of our rules dictates that mates must be recorded in the Book of Magnus, located in the cave near Silver Creek. It's the male wolf's duty to inscribe it on the full moon day. I didn't anticipate this turn of events, as it has happened several times before."
"It's a matter of safety, Alpha. The exterior of the castle is no longer secure. The number of enemies seeking to harm my pack is increasing. However, I am determined to prevent that from happening," he stated.
"It has already occurred, Alpha. Dylan has passed away. And we are uncertain about Norman's condition. Therefore, do not claim that you will not permit such a thing!" Alice replied firmly.
"Are you holding me responsible for everything, Alice?" Alpha Damien inquired firmly.
Alice did not respond to his question immediately. Suddenly, the door to the room opened, and the Doctor emerged. Alice promptly approached to inquire about Aries' condition.
"How is Norman, Doc?" I inquired.
"At present, he requires rest until his wounds have healed. He has sustained a severe injury on his arm," the doctor informed.
I heard Alice sigh, and I gently patted her arm to reassure her that everything would be fine.
We entered the room where Norman was resting on the bed. Alice embraced Norman tightly as he slept. His eyes slowly opened and met mine.
While Alice continued to embrace him, he shifted slightly, prompting Alice to release him. It was evident that he was in discomfort and unable to move much. I intervened, advising Alice not to embrace him too tightly as it might aggravate Norman's wound. She apologized, but I felt uneasy as Norman gazed at me. Before Alice could notice, I bid farewell and exited the room.
Upon leaving the room, I noticed Alpha Damien deep in contemplation. I heard him sigh, and he turned towards me. We locked eyes for a moment, but I quickly averted my gaze and proceeded down the corridor to my quarters. However, I heard him call my name, causing me to pause.
He inquired, "Are you angry with me?"
I faced him and replied, "What do you think?!"
"Why are you mad? What did I do to upset you?!" he asked assertively.
"Wait, are you raising your voice at me?" I questioned, raising my eyebrows.
"It's not like that. But I genuinely don't understand why you're behaving this way," he responded.
"You left me behind even though I wanted to come with you. How do you think that makes me feel?" I asked.
"I didn't take you with me because I didn't want you to get hurt. Should you be upset about that, Amelia?" he asked.
"It's my duty to protect my pack. It's also my responsibility to protect you, so I hope you understand that, Amelia," he added.
Regardless of what he said, I remained annoyed with him. I knew I shouldn't have reacted that way. However, I couldn't control myself, so I bid him farewell. I walked towards my room and encountered the woman named Jemma once again. We locked eyes for a moment, and then I proceeded straight to my room. But before I could enter, I overheard her saying something that infuriated me.
"You thought she was an angel, but that woman is a demon. She deceives the Alpha!"
I couldn't resist the urge to confront her, and she was taken aback by my actions. She was unable to move as I tightly gripped her hair. She let out a loud moan, and suddenly Alpha Damien appeared before us.
He intervened and held my hand. I felt pain as he tightly grasped it. I was surprised by my own reaction and asked what was happening.
"Let me go!" I yelled at him.
"What is happening here? Why are you hurting Jemma?" he asked me with a frown.
"Why are you automatically taking her side without asking me for the real reason?!" I firmly questioned.
"I'm not taking sides, Amelia. Tell me what happened," he said seriously.
I contemplated crying in front of him, hoping that he would feel sorry for me and become angry with Jemma. Perhaps whatever that woman would say to him would make him believe me.
"She said something to ruin me. She even accused me and called me a demon, Alpha," I said, tears streaming down my face.
