Chapter 99 Where's Blakey?

Chapter 99 Where's Blakey?
Shock was written all over his face, so she paused again. She stared at him as he recovered.

Her eyes dropped to his hand when he let go of her.

“O-okay. What did you two talk about? Did she say anything weird? How did Mama react?”

“Nothing much. She was just happy for Amber. She’s pregnant and due any day now.” She looked down, suddenly sad. It reminded her of their own loss. “Too bad we didn’t meet the baby’s dad. She said he was still at work.”

BK turned his back on her.

“T-that’s all?” he asked, glancing back at her while sitting on the bed.

“We couldn’t avoid it, BK. Mama saw Amber and started talking about wanting another grandchild. Should I tell her what we talked about or not?”

“I don’t think so. She’ll be upset, Daph, if she finds out. I’m sorry. She’s always wanted a grandchild from me, and I know she won’t agree with our decision. You know she’s not as strong as before. This is one of her greatest wishes. To have a grandchild from me.”

She bit her nail, confused.

“But what about my studies, BK?”

He sighed.

“That’s not going anywhere, baby. But Mama? I don’t know. We can’t tell. Manang said they haven’t been home lately. Maybe it’s the hospital again. She’s hiding something from us. I don’t want my fear to come true, baby. That’s why I want a child too. I want to give her a grandchild. And as for your studies? Like I said before, you could still go to class while pregnant. I’m here, baby. I’ll be your partner. I won’t leave you. I promise.”

She sat on the bed and rubbed her face. She was more confused now.

“Okay. But I can’t promise, BK. We’re both exhausted from school and work. I don’t know if we’ll even get pregnant right away.”

BK sat beside her and turned her to face him.

“Let’s still try, baby.” He pulled her close, and she rested her hands on his chest.

With lips pressed, she closed her eyes as his kisses trailed to her neck, awakening every nerve. Soon, they were wrapped once again in the heat of their love.

THE NEXT DAY...

“You’re really not coming with me?” she asked while adjusting her dress.

She had just finished putting on makeup.

“I can’t, baby. I have a scheduled meeting later. I really can’t miss it,” BK answered.

“It’s your aunt’s birthday. Can’t you move it to tomorrow? It’s Sunday anyway.”

BK stared at her. “Actually, I’ll be back tomorrow night, baby.”

Her brows furrowed.

“W-Why? Is it out of town?”

“N-No, but I can’t leave after. I’ll make it up to you next time, baby. I promise.”

She sat on the bed and looked at him seriously. She couldn’t help but let her shoulders drop.

“You know what scares me, BK? That one day, when I really need you beside me, you won’t be there. I’ll be alone again. Just like always.” She smiled bitterly. “Is your work really that complicated? Haven’t you noticed? We barely spend time together anymore. At night? I rarely sleep beside you, and when I do, five hours is probably the longest.”

BK didn’t say a word.

“You know what else I’m afraid of? That, I’ll get used to it, to you not being around. That I won’t even mind anymore because I’ve learned to live without you,” she said, still with a bitter smile.

She stood and grabbed her clutch bag from the dresser, leaving him behind. She didn’t want to say anything else, only show what she truly felt.

She paused once she reached the staircase. She glanced back at their room.

She never stopped him from doing his work. But she hoped he wouldn’t forget her either. If it weren’t for school and work, she’d probably be bored out of her mind.

This wasn’t what she expected when she gave him a second chance. She thought they’d be happy. Honestly, she needed her husband. BK was the only person left here who truly mattered to her, so why did it feel like he was slipping away too?

She couldn’t even count on her friend Amelie, who was always busier than her. She’d invited her over many times, but she never made it. She said she was always caught up. Her mom wasn’t around either, someone she could talk to.

BK was all she had now. And she needed inspiration to keep going with school.

She climbed into the waiting car. One of the Hernandez drivers had come for her. They would pick up BK’s parents before heading to the De Leon’s residence.

While the three of them were on the way to the De Leon residence, BK’s father spoke up.

“So, BK really isn’t coming, wifey?” His disappointment was clear on his face.

BK’s mom sighed. “Yes, husbie. That’s why Daphne’s the only one with us.” She turned to her. “You really couldn’t convince him, anak?”

“He said he really couldn’t miss it. I’m sorry, po,” she said, bowing her head.

“It’s not your fault, hija. Ever since he was young, your husband has lived in his own world. He’s not like his siblings, who are more family-centered. Maybe he’ll change once you give him a child, hija.”

She swallowed hard at that.

“M-Maybe, Ma. I’ll try to talk to him.”

“Yes, please, hija. He might listen to you.” BK’s dad smiled at her.

At the De Leons’, they arrived with a small group of guests. She didn’t know most of them, but they looked familiar. Maybe they attended her wedding to BK. After all, she didn’t know all of the Hernandezes’ friends.

The De Leons’ yard was huge, so the party was held outdoors. Lots of kids were playing, and she couldn’t help but smile.

She turned as BK’s mom held her hand. She was led to her cousin, the birthday celebrant. She greeted her right after BK’s mom did. She couldn’t deny how elegant the woman looked, even if she was older, just like BK’s mom. Well, they shared the same bloodline.

She was also introduced to a few women around her age. Some were married, others still single. They were daughters and granddaughters of the Hernandezes’ longtime friends.

“Daphne, you’re here!”

She turned when she heard the familiar voice.

It was Paul.

She had just taken a sip of wine she’d asked for from a passing waiter. BK’s mom had left her for a while to chat with friends.

She scanned Paul’s group out of curiosity. Sadboy and Rixi were behind him. There were two more people she didn’t recognize. What puzzled her was that BK was supposedly the only one on a mission.

“Where is Blakey baby?” Rixi asked her sweetly.

Her mouth parted slightly at the question. She looked at Paul, silently asking for help, but he only gave her a blank look in return.
