Chapter Twenty Four
Chapter Twenty Four
Salvador Greene.
There was a look of horror in her eyes, more like she didn't expect that transformation from me; she stared at me with her eyes wide open. Without waiting for her to do anything, I roughly grabbed the ropes and tore them into shreds, which were used in tying Greg as I carried him with my teeth and placed him on my back, which was still covered in fur. My body trembled, but I knew I had to act fast, or else I'd be forced under their custody again.
Bright screamed at the top of her voice, which made her husband arrive with the lady who seemed like a vampire.
All of them stared at me in horror, but none of them uttered a word. I was still trying to calm my nerves, but there was an angry look on Bright's face when she noticed her husband didn't do anything.
"Stop him; he's taking away our daughter's food."
'Daughter's food?' I thought inwardly, so this little bitch has been feeding on our blood?
Without a word, I turned towards her and used my firm paws as I hit on the glass several times. I kept hitting desperately when I saw the angry wife briskly rush out of the room; I knew she had a more dangerous intention. While the father and the daughter only stared in horror, more like they were scared of something way stronger than them.
The glass window cracked, and I let out a sigh of relief. I was about to jump only to hear the loud sounds of the bullet being triggered. A loud scream echoed, and my body froze, expecting death, but only to see Greg in a pool of his own blood, and that was when I realized that when he noticed I was about to be shot, he managed to climb from my back and took the bullet instead of me.
I let out a growl of pain. I saw Bright was still holding the weapon firmly in her hands. Without thinking twice, I lunged at her, using my paws as I clawed at her face, making her look pitiable. Both husbands stared but didn't do anything. Bright managed to bring a dagger from her left hand as she pierced right through my tummy. The pain started off slowly at first until it turned sharp and intense. I looked at Greg out of the corner of my eye, and I noticed he was in a pool of his own blood, making him look pitiable. He was unmoving, and his eyes bulged out.
He stretched out his hand and said, "Please survive..." Those words carried a heavy weight.
I am a wolf; I should have healed, but the pain was rapidly spreading around my body like wildfire, which made everything even more unbearable. I couldn't contain the pain, tears slowly slipping down my cheeks, my heart pounding so fast I felt I might not make it.
I sniffled the strong scent, and that was when I realized that the dagger was laced with a lethal poison, which explained the unimaginable pain.
My vision blurred, and I was shaking vigorously while Bright managed to push me to the ground. She was staring at me with a victorious smile. I could see her daughter staring at me, tears in her eyes. "Why do you have to poison my food? Now how will I have such a delicious meal to survive?"
"You have to survive..." Greg echoed one last time before he completely closed his eyes. When I saw Greg dying, the hidden strength within me unlocked. I don't know how I got the little energy, but I swiftly carried Greg using my teeth before I jumped through the window with him. I immediately hid under the tall grass when we landed on the ground. I could hear the angry voice of Bright as she cursed loudly, and she randomly started shooting her gun, and one of the bullets hit my foot. I almost let out a growl, but I had to control and endure the excruciating pain that followed, and a muffled sound was heard. I then heard Bright say that she's coming for me.
So I started dragging myself through the thick forest, which, also dragging Greg with my teeth, is taking everything from me to survive this long because I could feel my heartbeat slowing down and every cell in my body was screaming for me to stop, but the little part of my brain that was still alive was urging me to keep going.
Then I heard the footsteps of Bright; it scared me. I have come this far not only to be captured again, so I tried my best to crawl faster until I heard the sound of loud music at the end. It ignited an unknown hope within me; without hesitation, I crawled even faster only to hear the voice of Bright behind, "Got you..." I turned, and I saw her with her devilish smile.
"You think you can run away from me, little puny dimwit? Now you can't." She rushed faster towards me and stretched out her hand to get hold of me. I had to force every paralyzed muscle in my body as I fell to the ground where people were present. I saw many were dancing to a calm song. I let out a growl, which startled people, and people were scampering away.
I used my remaining strength as I turned into my human form. I saw Bright aiming closer; her eyes had turned red with rage. "Please help me..." I begged. I saw all the people stop; many rushed to help me when they noticed my bloody state and that a dagger was still pierced in my tummy.
"Please... help me and me."
I saw Bright immediately compose herself as she walked towards me with a smile. "Don't worry, I'll help him; he can stay with me because I believe he'll be in safe hands." She said innocently, "I saw the way people had a look of admiration as they stared at her, then they gave way for her to help me to my feet." I opened my mouth to say something, but no words could escape my lips. I don't know what Bright had done to me to make me unable to speak; the only thing was that tears slipped down my cheeks as she tried carrying me to her shoulders, which surprised me at her insane strength.
I saw a young boy as she pointed out Bright. "We have never seen this woman in our town before."
All people turned to her; I could feel her body stiffen, but she acted like she didn't hear what the boy said and continued walking faster. Before she could move further, people had already surrounded her, which made her stop in her tracks. She stared with fear in her eyes, but not a word was uttered.
"Drop him down," one of them commanded in a cold tone.
"But I can properly take care of him."
"I said drop him down, young lady; don't let me repeat myself."
Without a word, she dropped me down and swiftly ran through the thick forest before anyone could chase her. I let out a sigh of relief.
Then I averted my gaze towards Greg, who was still lifeless. "S...s...save him." Those are the last words that I said before I felt at ease and welcomed the darkness that had been calling my name for a long time.
