64: Ask Rowena

64: Ask Rowena
DEREK'S POV

I woke up with a start.
Feeling heavy while my head seem lighter than a feather, my neck must be doing a good job to still remember there is a head on it.

My head was void of thoughts, imagination and reasoning, nothing was coming together to form an answer for my unasked question.

'I need to get to work immediately.... there's more to recover' I thought, laying back stiffly on the bed without breathing for split second.

Everything seem blank and nothing made sound, the energy in the room felt static.

"Hmmmm" I managed to sign aloud for few seconds while stretching out my whole body on the bed with soft popping sounds coming from different joints in my body.

The room appeared to be different today, neatly arranged files and system on a table.

"Oh.." I woke up in my office, the
Open window gave way for the sun to penetrate and laid on a little golden sculpture by the window.

I turned around to search for Seth to recollect why I've woken up in my office and not my room.

My eyes went round the room again and got fixed on a particular spot where I find a make stature being bent over in a chair, being focused on what he must be holding or doing.

"Seth" I called out in my uncertainty, to be sure if he was the one with me.

He beamed me a smile, revealing his set of perfect white teeth before walking up to me in silence, he appeared taller and fairer.

"Seth, Where is Rowena?" My voice came out more hoarsely than I have expected, looking around to find any clue that would help me out.

He stared at me for few seconds and then burst out laughing, like I have said anything hilarious.

The line of my eyebrows straightened and my chin tightened alittle, making my eyes suddenly darken and brighten again almost immediately.

"Relax, you just seem more obsessed about finding Rowena this days" he explained, smiling, trying to subdue the laughter that made his cheeks suddenly red.

I ignored his comment, looking away from him to meet a new file on my desk, my face darkened with curiosity.

"Or didn't your coronation with Luna Elena a delight?" His auto voice came back, sounding annoying this time.

There wasn't a chance that I Know what he's talking about...my mind remained blank.

"She might be as well as creepy as she looks.... right?" He asked, leaning forward towards me, like he wants to get my response directly from my mouth.

My shoulders dropped and I stood up without saying a word to find something doing, which is clearly what I don't know.

'what is happening today?' I thought, dragging my legs towards my table, it's looking too official to me today.

"Nothing" Seth replied and I turned swiftly to give him a dagger stare to assure myself he wasn't listening to my mind.

"Nothing much....it's just that a kid was rescued yesterday by Freya, most thanks to you ALPHA" he mentioned with a faint smirk, saluting me.

'That's much better but...when did I help Freya rescue a kid yesterday?' I asked myself, trying real hard to remember anything but nothing was pictured.

"It's nothing Seth, that's my responsibility...to protect the people of this pack, anytime" my face appeared more confident than my voice, he smiled again.

"Long live the Alpha!" he chanted lively, raising his left hand as he shook his tight fist in the air.

I silently swallowed hard, now trying to hide my confusion even if it's beginning to show on my crossed hands.

It took me few seconds to get to my chair, with a fake smile printed on my face.

"Going for a drink today?" He asked pointing himself with his left index finger and the right one came pointing at me.

"Not today, going to figure some things out first....see you around" I mentioned calmly and picked a pen to make a list for my day.

I looked up from the medium sized journey where my calm hand had explore brilliance with my beautiful handwriting to meet his mischievous grin.

"What is the matter with you?" I asked acidly, taking away the fake smile I had on to replace it with exactly how I felt.

His smiley beaming face had a suspicious way of telling me that he's aware of my plight, his face got more red with laughter and an annoying slice of amusement.

"How is Luna Elena faring today Alpha Derek?" He raised his eyebrows, turning his head to the side while he still had his jolly gaze fixed on me.

'Not only that I feel like killing you Seth, I would also like to erase your memory first' my thoughts only made me uncomfortable and unnecessarily paranoid as I held tightly on the pen.

I dropped the pen slowly without making a sound before crossing my fingers together, the both edge of my lips bent slowly and the firmly.

"I'll be back before dusk, keep up with your happiness.....it looks good on you" I announced softly, without showing any sign of my real feeling to him.

He took a slight bow and left only to return in a split second, moving to a seat close to my table to stare at me in disbelief.

I had no idea why my choice of words were that of a fairly tale princess, but never mind the main deal was to unravel this mystery any moment from now.

The usual path to the dungeon seem different and more tidy than usual today, it looks kept.

'That was suspiciously neat' I thought as I walked pass the freshly grown flowers around.

looking at them with a partially closed eyes which my eyelashes appearing before my eyes.

Not a sound came out of the cage like room and I suddenly feared that she might have escaped and died.

I got close enough to meet her lying lifelessly on the floor, she had her head burried in her folded hands.

She turned around on noticing my presence, her eyes looked more pale and her lips white, her wrists were thiner and her cheeks had sunken.

Alice seem to be the shadow of herself, she looked terrible and terrified too.

It's clear that her people had grown tired of sending her food, love and medication.

"What do you want?" Her weak voice questioned, sending chills to my cold heart but I dusted the guilt by hardening my face.

"Do you know about the traveller so well?" I asked harshly, demanding an answer with my rash tine of voice.

"Go and ask Rowena" she ordered reluctantly and rested again, seems like she's about to die.

My lips tightened, my chance of finding out the truth is becoming more slim by the day.

'I'm going back to bed then' my voice rang in my head as I stared at Alice who had ignored my continuous presence.
