39. No More Sister

39. No More Sister
Cassius Pov

After I talked with Sol, I was excited. I knew there was a lot of logistics. She would need to work out and she needed to adjust what was happening. I didn’t think necessarily she should follow the command that her father gave her in the letter to start over, just because he gave her a command.

But it was because it was a damn good idea. My sister had complained to me about no one, even knowing who Sol was anymore or having any recollection of her. The only information she had was old information that was now gone, lost by memories. There would be no new incoming information. It would protect Sol more if she moved away. She wouldn’t be at college anymore and it would mean she was safe. And I was all for that.

When she announced to her cousin and Kimi that we were leaving in a week, and that we were to pack everything up. Quientin seems sad about it, but also when she took my idea and told him that he would have to go do some outreach he was more than happy to take part in that. He got to see people and engage with people he was all for it. Kimi seemed to be the only one who was rather in a bad mood I think that have nothing to do with the new location more to do with her son killing her mate. She was not looking like she was coping well.

As the days passed, I helped them pack up what they needed. They were keeping the lodge here, but they wouldn’t be living there. Both Quientin and Sol pulled out of college. I just had one important thing to do, and I need a privacy to do it, so I told them I was going to go run an errand and when they asked what it was, I made up some stupid thing Saying batteries like we didn’t have enough packed.

Sol was more than willing to loan me her SUV so I didn’t have to ride on my motorcycle once I got 5 miles down the road I pulled off and pulled out my phone. I was going to  have a conversation with my sister. She picked up on the first ring “Finally, any news on the bitch situation?” Venus shouted through the phone as if I didn’t have anything else I was doing. My hands clenched with her referring to Sol as that.

I took a deep breath. I had realized that there was only one thing I knew I could tell her that would officially make her leave me alone and get off my back a half-truth. “Venus I’m sorry I found my mate.” I said calmly. “How is that possible? You used the masking scent potion. Have run out of it? No, I gave you enough did you spill or break some? Come back and I’ll get you some more.”

I took a deep breath “no I still have the potion. You know it only stops them from smelling me in human form but I can smell them. I found her and she’s everything I want and I’m sorry, but I’m no longer going to be looking for the female alpha.” she went silent for a long time. “ you’re going to turn your back on your family?”

“Venus, this is about Family. It’s about my life. You treat me as your errand boy I’ve been doing everything for you for well over a decade now and it’s my turn. The life I want is right there up for the grabs and you know I’ve always wanted to just live in the woods, peacefully and quietly away from all the madness and away from people so I’m taking it and I think you should stop searching for her. OK you have no new information. It is a waste of time hunting her.”

I said, trying to get her mind off the task of finding Sol, my mate. “For all you know, she could have dropped out of college, and she’s been in hiding or maybe she even is dead. Who knows all I know is that it’s pointless for you to keep searching for her. You have control over the pack you wanted you’re married to Benjamin just like you wanted.”

Venus cut me off “ I don’t have everything I want. I told you I wanted the wolves goddess dead and she’s obviously isn’t. They’re still finding mates their mates, I mean  look at you, you found yours. Sure I got rid of their white fur, well those in this pack, but not all of them. We need to kill the goddess. I thought you wanted that. I thought you didn’t want to be tied down by a mate bond with someone you didn’t pick you’ve been saying that for years.”

I responded “ I know I was saying that for years, but I was wrong, my mate, she is everything I ever didn’t know I wanted I don’t know how to describe it. She likes the woods and she likes to hunt and fish, but she also likes to just sit back and be calm. I don’t know what more I could ask for it’s my dream girl.” Venus spoke again. “ she is good at those things?” I could hear the curiosity in her voice, and I didn’t like it.

“ I didn’t say that” I lied obviously. Sol was good at those things but the way Venus sounded too intrigued made me concerned and I refuse to let her have that concern “ you’re being stupid you’re supposed to help me. What would your father say? You told me years ago that he wanted the goddess dead and you’re his son shouldn’t you trying to fulfill his dream?” I practically yelled through the phone. “I told you never to bring up my father again look we’re done here Venus. I’m done working for you so you can just go find some other dog to do your dirty work because I’m through.”

I paused for a second and then added “You know what never call me again and tell your father that this silence extends to him to. I'm tired of both of you trying to run everything in my life. If I want to talk to you, I’ll reach out. Have a nice fucking life.”

I hung up the phone relieved that I had done it. I was finally done dealing with my sister. She’d no longer be in my life. I had expected to feel some relief after this conversation but what I didn’t expect was the weight of the world to be off my shoulders. Never again would I have to do stupid jobs or watch her destroy people’s lives I could just live independently. I felt pure freedom, for the first time ever. It was pure bliss.
