Sol POV

1 year later

Cassius has had been right. I would never tell him that though, he was still an asshole even after living here with me for a year. My father had not just given us land. There was a sawmill ready to be used. Everything was there. There was rushing river that, flowed out to the ocean. The property was so large that we could access the sea if we wanted and salmon would even be caught in the rushing river. There was also a pond on the property that we could swim in if we wanted.

The forest here was great and had a great selection of vegetation for forging and the hunting options were spectacular. And it wasn’t just that at some point there had been someone living out so electricity was already set up though we had to have someone come out and wire for more, but it wasn’t like we had to set a whole new system. There was a massive aquifer so setting up a well was not terrible; everything fell into place after that.

Quientin was much like his father was to the pack in the north instead of visiting packs, though he went and sought out rogues. We were growing. He acted as an ambassador of sorts just like my uncle Quill used to.

Kimi though I turned into herself and she hardly talked. I insisted she prayed to my mother to talk to her, but when she did that just left her sobbing, not being able to talk to her or the goddess. She was a mess and constantly wanted to go back and threaten her son. She’d go into fits of rage mixed with sadness and depression the newcomers to the pack decided that they should just stay away from her and labeled her the crazy lady. Which was far from the truth, but it wasn’t my story to tell, and she didn’t want to talk about it.

We had been out here a year, and it was growing. Kimi asked me when I would bring a child into the pack, we had none yet but I knew I wasn’t ready for that. I knew it wasn’t time that it wasn’t a good time maybe in a year or two when things were more settled and we have the numbers for protection. I couldn’t do it and when my heat came, I had to lock myself and Cassius up to prevent us from coupling, it had been painful to do but I was not ready to have a child.

I thought about how my mom had me during a war and I just couldn’t do that. Not that I knew war was coming, because I didn’t. I just needed to have the protection of numbers before I decided to add to them myself. It was a painful and felt unnatural to do but I knew it was for the best. Cassius supported this choice which was a relief, an argument would have been taxing.

His mood had greatly improved since being out here in the wilderness. I’ve been an adjustment. us trying to explain to the new pack members that he wasn’t anything, and he had no say over their lives, but they were more than willing to swear to me. The comfort of once again being in a pack soothed them.

But I was excited for today, Cassius told me the day we stepped foot here, that in one year he would tell me everything about his past. He wanted one year to prove to me that he wasn’t as horrible as his story would make him seem. I was worried about what he had to say was truly terrifying. If it would take him a year for me to see his good work so I could overcome his past it had to be bad I surmised. He said I would have to wait patiently. He asked I drop it and not bring it up again, until it hit the first-year anniversary of us coming out here. I had done as he asked.

He had been invaluable building the homes. Ours was like everyone else’s a small to A-Frame house. There was no kitchen in there just the living room bedroom, a small fridge, a bathroom, and a big loft upstairs. There was an outdoor kitchen that was rather large and like they did in the north and how I was brought up, we took all our meals together, forming bonds with our newfound community. We all hunted so big game could be shared. I was still teaching the newcomers to hunt. There was a massive building where we store food it was where most of the power went that I had ran onto the property.

It felt kind of like a utopia here and I loved it. The paths weren’t cement just made from us walking. Kimi helped design the layout saying it was much like the community they lived in in the north. There was a lot of back-and-forth whether or not we should have TVs in the home and after much consideration, we decided yes, but not in the home it was centralized into a giant community center that had like a dome top where people could go to watch movies three times a week there was also activities in there and board games and card games and, we figured we would expand it as needed.

To be truthful, it felt like we were a bunch of hippies, living out in the woods. I’m sure to the humans that we would see, when we made the trip to the town to shop, they all thought we were some hippie commune out in the woods, we weren’t, though we were making our own way, combining, both traditional and modern ways of life. It was all exciting.

Quientin was supposed to be arriving back home today, and I was excited to see my cousin. He’d be gone for six weeks. And during those six weeks, five people had showed up from his directions. Our number was not large it consisted of a good 25 wolves, but I felt that was more than enough, none of them had children, and only six of those wolves were mated. I was sitting on the top step of my three stepped porch to my little cabin, waiting for him to pull up and when I heard the rumble of a motorcycle, I stood excited to see him.
