Chapter 26 Jealously
Chapter 26 Jealously
I finally finished arranging my clothes and belongings in the closet and dressing table. After showering, I felt refreshed. I glanced at the clock ticking on the wall. It was almost five in the afternoon, but Xavier still hadn't come to see me.
"What was I expecting? Did I really think we were a real couple?"
Knock...knock...knock...
I was startled when I heard a knock, I wasn't dressed yet and was still wrapped in a towel.
"W-who?"
"It's me! Open the door!" Xavier's voice rang out clearly from behind the door. I immediately opened it, feeling a strange sense of longing, even though we had only been apart for less than four hours.
"What's wrong?" I asked. He looked tired, and I could tell he hadn't showered yet. He came into my room shirtless and wearing only jeans.
Xavier simply walked in, locked the door, and lay down on my bed.
"Where's Renata?"
"Asleep in my room!"
"You look tired. Did you just get off with her?"
"Yeah, she's a really crazy woman. She's the only one who can keep up with me."
"That's good!" I said, brushing my hair in front of the mirror. Honestly, I didn't want to hear that from him, so I shouldn't ask any further.
"But why do I keep imagining your face?" He said. I was taken aback because it seemed like he wanted to continue the conversation.
"Why is that?"
"I don't know either, I actually didn't want to do that earlier. I wanted to sleep in this room and rest with you if she hadn't come."
"You could have just slept in your room with her, right?"
"I can't sleep if there's anyone else around. I'm very alert and just want to sleep alone."
"But last night you slept soundly next to me! You snored loudly!"
"Did I snore?"
"No, I was just kidding. You didn't snore at all."
"I want to sleep with you again tonight."
"If you do that, Renata might get angry and never want to see you again. She's the woman you love so much, right? I can see you love her very much. So as long as she's with you, you shouldn't ignore her."
"She only wanted my body, not my soul. She always said that only I could satisfy her crazy lust. I was nothing more to her."
I didn't know what to say now, somehow I felt sorry for Xavier. He was such a perfect man, why would he allow himself to be treated like that.
"Layla!"
"Hmm?"
"Come here!"
"I want to get dressed first!"
"No need!" He said. I immediately approached him.
"What's wrong?"
"Sit down!" Xavier asked me to sit on the bed, and when I did, he immediately laid his head on my lap.
"Stroke my head!"
"Why are you so clingy?"
"This body makes me tired so easily, I'm not fit to be human."
"What are you talking about? If you're not human, what are you? Besides, it's natural to feel tired. You've been driving for hours, so that's human."
"Hmmp...human, huh? What a strange term!" He said with a chuckle.
Xavier took my hand and kissed it. His hand was so warm and comforting.
"Xavier?"
"Hmm?"
"Are you going to stay here all the time?"
"Of course not! I'm busy, I have a lot of things to do. I'll be gone after the weekend at the latest."
"That means you'll only be here for five days?"
"Yes."
"And what about me?"
"Of course, you'll stay here, working on the house like the other servants."
"Will you come often?" It was strange, I missed him so much just thinking about him leaving me here.
"You want me to visit you often, is that it?"
"If you can," I said. Xavier touched the necklace around my neck, holding the ring and staring at it seriously.
"I only want this ring."
"What?"
"But the ring means nothing without you."
"You really want this ring, don't you?"
Xavier lifted his head from my lap and looked me in the eye seriously.
"I want you more than anything, Layla! That's why I'll do anything for you. If you want me to visit you often, I'll do it. Even if you want me to jump off a cliff, I'll do it for you. So promise me, when the time comes, you'll repay me for everything I've done for you. Will you promise me?"
I didn't know what Xavier was trying to say. Was our relationship like a pact?
"I-I-"
"You don't want to promise me?" Xavier said, acting like a sweet puppy.
"N-No, I just don't know what I should do for you to repay you for everything you've done for me."
"I can't tell you now. I only ask for one thing because only you can do it, Layla!"
"Okay, I understand. I promise."
"Good girl, I'm going to make you the happiest woman in the world, Layla. It will take you a lifetime to forget me."
Should I be happy to hear those incredibly romantic words from him? I felt like they weren't sincere, and even though I'd known from the start that Xavier didn't have any feelings for me, somehow I held a little hope that he would truly love me.
