Chapter 27 Perhaps

Chapter 27 Perhaps
Xavier was fast asleep after his shower, looking utterly exhausted. Perhaps it was because he had to deal with two troublesome women. But when he said he usually couldn't sleep with other people, I somehow felt a little happy that he could sleep this soundly with me.

Knock...knock...knock...

There was a knock on my bedroom door. I tried to guess who it was? Was it Butler Sebastian or another maid. I just felt awkward if anyone saw Xavier sleeping in my room.

I opened the door slowly without asking who was knocking. But when the door opened, Renata's beautiful face appeared from behind the door, wearing only her pajamas.

"Is Xavier in there?" She asked immediately, without further ado.

"Y-yes, he's sleeping," I replied. I felt incredibly uneasy, as if I'd been caught in an affair.

Renata just walked into my room, her face growing increasingly irritated after seeing Xavier sleeping in my bed.

"Why is he sleeping so well in your room? What did you do to him?" She asked, clearly suspicious of me. After all, she was a strange woman still trying to get close to her ex-boyfriend, whom she had broken up with.

"I-I didn't do anything!"

"Then, can you sleep in another room tonight? Ask Sebastian to give you a temporary room. I want to sleep here tonight!"

"F-Fine," I said, immediately leaving after receiving her selfish order. I didn't know why I had to comply with her wishes, when she wasn't my master. Besides, Xavier's current girlfriend was me, not her. I should have had the right to sleep with him.

I sighed, reflecting on my powerlessness every time I was bullied. Feelings of inferiority du
e to being poor, an orphan, and having a last name that made people think I was a shaman.

"Life really isn't fair," I said. Instead of going to see Sebastian, I decided to go to the backyard and was immediately captivated by the beautiful garden, filled with flowers, trees, and fountains. But what caught my attention the most was the maze in the center. This house was starting to resemble a fairytale castle.

I sat on one of the steps and tried to enjoy the beautiful night air. The garden was eerily quiet. I was sure it wasn't even nine o'clock yet, but there wasn't a single person in sight.

"Even though there are 80 servants, this house is still too big. It turns out Xavier lives among the stars."

Meanwhile, Xavier opened his eyes after his alert instincts kicked in. It had only been five minutes since Renata lay down beside him, but he could already sense her presence.

"Are you awake, Xavier? Did I wake you?"

"Where's Layla? Why are you here?"

"I told her to leave because I want to sleep with you tonight."

"You told her to leave?" Xavier looked annoyed. He was in a deep sleep, and he had to wake up to realize Layla was no longer in the room with him.

Xavier immediately got up, and his strange behavior irritated Renata. Xavier had never acted like this towards her, let alone neglected her for someone else. She had always known that he loved her deeply.

"Where are you going? I want to be with you tonight!"

"I've given you what you wanted, so I think you can leave tomorrow morning!"

"You're acting like you just got a new toy. You're so cute, Xavier. Is this part of your plan to make me jealous?" Renata took off her nightgown, trying to pull him into her arms. She knew how crazy this man was about her.

"He's the owner of the ring!"

"Really?"

"He's already in a trap, I can't just let him go!" Xavier said. Renata was silent for a moment, then smiled after understanding why Xavier kept ignoring her.

"Okay, I understand. I can't stop you from doing it. You've been waiting too long for this moment, haven't you? Considering how difficult it is to deal with that family of witches."

Xavier said nothing, walking away, following his instincts. Renata was right, he had waited too long for this moment, the moment where he could exact his revenge on the Arden lineage that had kept him from returning to his place.

"Layla?"

I snapped out of my reverie when I heard Xavier's voice. I immediately turned to the source of the voice, which was right behind me. I saw Xavier's face staring at me with a sad look, as if I had done something wrong that disappointed him.

"Xavier, are you awake?"

"Why did you leave?" he asked. The atmosphere soured, and I rushed over to him.

"I'm sorry!"

"Renata told you to leave?"

"She said she wanted to sleep with you tonight."

"You should have woken me up so I could have stopped her!"

"How could I have done that while you were sleeping? Why did you wake up anyway? Did she wake you?"

"No, she was just lying where you were, but I knew right away it wasn't you."
