Chapter 25 The Young Master

Chapter 25 The Young Master
"Okay, okay. You can wait in my room. I'll take Layla to her room first! Come on, Layla!" She said as she led me into this luxurious house that was beyond my comprehension.

I don't know how wealthy the Freeman family really is. I've heard about them in global conspiracy theories about them being one of the world's financial powerhouses. I thought it was just a myth, but looking at this house, I think there's some truth to that conspiracy theory.

As soon as we stepped inside, we were greeted by dozens of servants in their full, neat uniforms. They bowed and greeted Xavier.

"Welcome, Mr. Xavier?" They greeted him in unison. A rather elderly-looking man approached us, I guessed he was the butler. For some reason, I immediately thought his name was Sebastian, a common name for older men who play butlers in movies and TV dramas.

"Sebastian, I've brought a new butler to work here!" Xavier said.

"So his name is Sebastian! How is that so appropriate?" I thought.

"Miss, let me introduce myself. My name is Sebastian Holf, the butler of this mansion."

"I-I'm Layla, nice to meet you, Mr Sebastian!" I said nervously, my hands sweating.

"Then, let me show you to your room, Miss Layla!"

"No need, Sebastian! I'll take her! You can just take Renata to my room!"

"Very well, Young Master!"

I followed Xavier up the stairs to the second floor. He carried my suitcase and bag, which I couldn't possibly carry both at once.

Xavier stopped in front of a room not far from the balcony. He opened the door and entered. I followed him, and my eyes were immediately captivated by the splendor of the room I was about to occupy. I felt it was too luxurious for a mere maid like me.

"T-this is my room?" I asked in disbelief.

"Yes."

"Isn't this room too big and splendid for one maid?"

"Usually, a room this size would be shared by three maids, but I want you to sleep alone and not share a room with another maid."

"Why? I don't mind sharing a room with another maid. I think it's good for me to quickly integrate with the others."

"You don't need to mingle or get too friendly with anyone. Just do your job and listen to Sebastian and Minerva's instructions!"

"Minerva?"

"She's a fat old woman who works as the head maid in the kitchen."

"I-I see, but how many people actually work in this house?"

"About 80 people."

"That's a lot."

"My other brothers will be coming to this house soon, so you might meet them too."

"Does that mean I'll be seeing Doctor Nathan and Professor Henry too?"

"Yes, then you should get some rest. I'll go to my room!"

"That woman named Renata is in your room too, isn't she?"

"Yeah, I don't want to keep her waiting any longer." Xavier walked away, leaving me alone in the room with a strange turmoil in my heart that I couldn't quite understand.

Am I jealous? Is it okay to feel jealous? He's been so kind to me today that I feel so lucky to have him. But I don't have a single good quality in me that I can offer. I'm nothing more than a failed project from the Arden line.

I took out a photo of Jacob and me that I'd brought with me so I could see his face whenever I missed him. I kissed the photo and placed it on the table next to my bed.

"Jake, please get well soon and take me home. I don't want my feelings for Xavier to grow any further. If I stay with him, I'm afraid I'll lose my feelings for you."

Knock...knock...knock...

Someone knocked on my bedroom door. I walked over to it and opened it. Butler Sebastian was standing in front of my door, carrying a trolley, a type typically found in hotels and restaurants. There were several plates and bowls filled with sumptuous and delicious-looking food on the trolley.

"Sorry to interrupt your rest, Miss Layla. The young master asked me to bring you lunch."

"T-Thank you." I was deeply impressed by the service in this house, I had never been served like this before.

Sebastian placed the plates and bowls of food and served them on the table right next to the bedroom balcony.

"Please enjoy, Miss! When you're finished, please call me on the phone on the table. Excuse me!"

"T-Thank you very much!" Between nervousness and excitement, I felt like I was living in a TV drama. I was living in a luxurious mansion and eating such luxurious food.

"What was my dream last night that I was able to eat food from a five-star restaurant like this?"

I realized that I wasn't here as a mistress or an important guest, I was here to serve as a servant, just like the people lining up with bowed heads to greet Xavier on the first floor. Perhaps I would greet Xavier like that in the future.

"What's Xavier doing right now? He's in the room with that woman, right? Is he kissing and hugging her like he kissed me last night?"
