Chapter 227 Deliberately Denying
"My bodyguard brought me here." Hayden was happy to see Scarlett paying attention to him. Scarlett must not be angry anymore.
"Scarlett, I brought you something good to eat." As he spoke, he excitedly ran to his little backpack, grabbed it, and reached his little hand inside.
Yara, sitting on the blanket, tilted her head and watched his movements, curious about what he had brought this time.
Then she saw him pull out a gift box from inside, and she ran over.
"What's this?" She asked, staring at the box with the word ginseng on it.
Scarlett also walked over. Seeing the words on it, she didn't need to guess to know there was ginseng inside.
"This is good for your health," Hayden answered Yara's question, then handed it to Scarlett.
"This is for you."
Scarlett was used to this kind of behavior from Hayden, but still asked, "Did you take this from your great-grandpa again?"
He nodded, his big eyes very sincere. "Great-grandpa knows. He agreed to it."
Scarlett was a bit speechless. Would Cody think she was putting Hayden up to taking these things?
She sighed and said earnestly, "Hayden, I told you last time, don't take these things from home for me. I can buy them myself."
Hayden frowned. "Are you still mad at me?"
Scarlett was indeed still a bit upset, but not very much, so she said, "It has nothing to do with that."
"Scarlett, Dad said you've been feeling unwell lately and told me not to upset you. So I thought, if you're not feeling well, you need to build up your health, so I brought this for you."
"And great-grandpa was very happy too. He's the one who said this is good for your health."
Scarlett was surprised. Didn't Cody dislike her?
She thought about how last time she asked him for help, he actually denied what he had said, and even advised her to stay with Ambrose, and even went to school to back up Yara. Now he was having Hayden bring this to her.
This was really strange.
After some thought, she crossed her legs on the blanket, fixed her gaze on Hayden, and asked, "Hayden, let me ask you, have you noticed that your great-grandfather has been acting strangely lately?"
Hayden shook his head. "No, he's the same as always—very strict with his brothers, and very loving toward me."
Scarlett continued asking, "Has he said something one day, then forgotten it the next day or a couple of days later, and denied he ever said it?"
Hayden thought for a moment and shook his head. "Great-grandpa always keeps his word. If his brothers talk bad about my dad behind his back and great-grandpa finds out, he scolds them right away."
Scarlett was stunned again. The Boleyn family situation was complicated. Cody had three sons. Besides Ambrose's father, who had passed away, there were two other sons—Gage Boleyn and Kade Boleyn.
These two were not simple people. Their sons didn't inherit the position of Boleyn family head, and they had been causing trouble behind the scenes at the Boleyn Group.
Ambrose didn't have it easy in the Boleyn family either.
So if he helped her, wouldn't that really become ammunition for Gage and Kade to attack him?
"Scarlett, what's wrong?" Hayden called out when he saw Scarlett spacing out.
She came back to her senses and focused her thoughts on Cody. "So you're saying your great-grandpa is perfectly normal."
Hayden nodded vigorously.
"Of course, great-grandpa is totally normal."
If he were normal, then Cody denying what he said wasn't because he forgot, but because he deliberately denied it. But what did his deliberate denial mean?
Thinking this, Scarlett was about to ask Hayden more when her phone rang. She picked it up and saw it was Rhea calling.
She quickly answered.
"Rhea, did you get to the hospital?"
"Scarlett, my son's injury isn't too serious, but the person he hurt says my son hit first. The other person is hurt worse and wants to press charges against my son. The police are here taking statements right now. I just heard them say my son might be sentenced. What are we going to do?"
By the end, Rhea was almost crying.
Scarlett was shocked that things had gotten this serious, but she quickly tried to comfort Rhea.
"Rhea, don't worry about this yet. You need to ask your son who hit first."
"I asked. My son said he hit first because the other person was trying to force urine down his throat," Rhea said.
Scarlett's instinct told her this wasn't simple. She decided to go to the hospital to find out more. Rhea was someone very close to her, and no matter what, she would help if she could.
Hearing that Scarlett would come over, Rhea felt a bit more at ease.
Before going, Scarlett first called Ruben to ask about the situation.
"Ambrose's future wife!"
This one sentence from Ruben instantly made Scarlett go silent. Why was he being so familiar?
"Mr. Lawson, Ambrose and I aren't anything yet. You're saying this too early. Just call me Scarlett!"
"It's only a matter of time," Ruben laughed in a rather improper way.
