Chapter 226 Ostentatious
Scarlett didn't stay in the break room for long. She came out shortly after and returned to her office. As soon as she got back, she received a message from Ambrose.
[You're at the company? Want to have lunch together?]
She replied: [I already have plans for lunch.]
Ambrose: [With a colleague?]
It was indeed a colleague. She had made plans with Ewan. During this time, she was grateful that Ewan had been helping her keep an eye on the construction site, otherwise who knew what problems might have come up.
But she didn't want to tell him that, so she just replied: [Guess.]
Ambrose had just finished a meeting and returned to his office. Looking at the message on his phone, the corners of his lips curved slightly. Was she upset? So he sent another message.
[Don't believe the nonsense online.]
Scarlett: [Just handle it properly.]
This response was quite subtle, no clear attitude, but what level of handling would count as "proper" was worth pondering.
Ambrose replied helplessly: [Got it.]
Scarlett didn't reply to him again. Then Finnian's call came through.
"Scarlett, you were in a car accident last night?" Finnian's voice was full of concern.
Scarlett held her phone and answered, "Yes, but fortunately, I wasn't hurt."
"Good that you're okay. But how did the accident happen? Was it an accident or deliberate?" Finnian was very perceptive.
"Still investigating."
"Be careful when you go out from now on."
"I will. Finnian, thanks for your concern."
After chatting for a bit, they ended the call.
At three in the afternoon, her friend Briar sent another message: [Ambrose has been pretty high-profile lately. First, the scandal with Octavia, and now this afternoon, another scandal with a different actress. Is he trying to get rid of his 'not interested in women' reputation?]
Scarlett looked at the message and paused for a moment. Instead of replying, she opened her phone and sure enough, found photos of Ambrose with a female celebrity in the trending news.
She frowned.
Scarlett had told him to handle it properly, and this was his method?
Given Ambrose's current status, no one would dare post these photos online unless he had authorized it.
She wanted to see what purpose he thought posting these photos would serve.
She exited the app and replied to Briar's message.
[Maybe he wants to live a different kind of life!]
Briar replied instantly: [Isn't he pursuing you? Why is he doing this kind of thing? You need to show some attitude, or he'll have you completely under his thumb.]
Scarlett replied: [Don't worry, I have my ways.]
Briar felt reassured after hearing this, then asked: [By the way, what happened with that driver?]
[The driver couldn't be saved, but I have a target in mind. Now I just need to find even a tiny bit of evidence, and it'll be enough to finish off whoever's behind this.]
[You suspect it's Octavia, right?]

After chatting with Briar, Scarlett didn't confront Ambrose about it. Instead, she continued working at the company. Around four o'clock, she suddenly received a call from Rhea.
"Scarlett, my son's in the hospital. I need to go see him."
Scarlett quickly responded, "Rhea, I'll head back now. You go take care of what you need to, but what happened to your son?"
"I don't know either. They said he got into a conflict with someone at work and was beaten up. He's in the hospital now, and his girlfriend called me crying."
Rhea was a bit incoherent with anxiety. Scarlett held her phone with her shoulder while quickly gathering her things with both hands, saying, "Rhea, you go there first and check on him. Have Yara stay at home, I'll be back soon."
"Okay."
As Rhea was about to hang up, Scarlett added, "Rhea, if you need my help with anything, just let me know."
After hanging up, Scarlett called the bodyguard who was secretly protecting Yara and had him send someone to take Rhea to the hospital.
When she rushed home, besides Yara in the living room, Hayden was there too.
Hayden still wasn't treating himself like an outsider.
Thinking about how he had tattled to Ambrose, she decided she needed to be more guarded around him.
"Mommy." Seeing Scarlett return, Yara called out sweetly and happily.
"Scarlett! You're back." Hayden ran up and hugged her legs. He was planning to stay here today.
Scarlett looked down at Hayden. "When did you get here?"
"I came this morning." He replied with a big smile.
Looking at his cute and adorable little face, Scarlett had no resistance. This Hayden really made her feel both love and frustration.
"Who brought you here?" She crouched down. Even though she had some issues with him, she couldn't help but crouch down to ask him.
