Chapter 228 Threatening Her
Seeing that she couldn't correct Ruben, Scarlett let it go and got straight to the point of her call.
"Mr. Lawson, I'd like to ask you about something."
"No need to be so polite. Whatever it is, just tell me."
Scarlett felt quite helpless, but still explained what had happened with Rhea.
"Well, it depends on the situation. If it's really like you said, that he was forced to drink urine and struck back, then it could be considered self-defense."
Hearing this, Scarlett breathed a sigh of relief.
"What's the person's name? Tell me, and I'll ask around for you," Ruben said.
When it came to serious matters, Ruben was absolutely reliable. After getting the name, he said he would look into the situation.
After ending the call with Ruben, Scarlett had Hayden's bodyguard take the two kids to Silver Oak Heights, where they'd be safe.
But the two little ones wanted to stay with Scarlett, so as soon as they heard they were being sent to Silver Oak Heights, they each grabbed one of Scarlett's legs and wouldn't let go.
Scarlett rubbed her forehead. Had these two little ones planned this together to wear her down?
She glanced at Hayden again. He'd recently started learning Yara's tactics, crying and fussing.
"I'm going to the hospital to visit a patient. If you come along, you'll disturb others. When I'm done, I'll come to Silver Oak Heights to pick you up."
"I promise I'll behave and won't disturb anyone. Please let us come," Hayden said.
Scarlett was a bit incredulous. He really was treating himself more and more like family, wanting to follow her everywhere.
But she couldn't bring herself to scold him, so she turned her attention to Yara instead.
"Yara, don't you want to play with Polar? If we go to Silver Oak Heights now, you can play with Polar."
At the mention of Polar, Yara's attention shifted as expected, and she nodded.
"Oh yeah, I haven't seen Polar in so long."
"Hayden, how about we go back to Silver Oak Heights and play with Polar? Mom will come back when she's done," Yara said, thinking of that big dog and really wanting to play with it.
But Hayden didn't want to. Right now, he just wanted to stay with Scarlett. No one had ever taken him out like this before. He'd barely seen the outside world, and now that he finally had this chance, he wanted to see it.
"We can play with Polar tomorrow. Today, let's go visit the patient," Hayden held his ground, not budging an inch.
Swayed by his words again, Yara looked at Scarlett, torn between the two options.
Scarlett sighed. Hayden was really sticking to her.
In the end, she still took both kids with her. When they arrived at the hospital, the police had already finished taking statements and left. When Rhea saw her, she started crying.
Scarlett quickly comforted Rhea. "Rhea, don't cry. I just asked a friend at the police station, and based on your son's situation, it might be considered self-defense."
Though Rhea was getting on in years, she knew what self-defense meant and asked in surprise, "Really?"
Scarlett nodded, then said, "He'll call me if there's any update."
Ruben hadn't gotten back to her yet. Was there some difficulty with this case?
Just then, her phone rang. She pulled it out of her bag and saw it was an unknown number. She paused for a few seconds before answering.
"Hello."
"Scarlett, I just saw you at the hospital. Are you there to see your housekeeper's son?"
It was Ulysses. Scarlett frowned, then heard him continue, "I just heard the news that your housekeeper's son hurt someone."
With those words, Scarlett understood that this incident was connected to Ulysses.
"The people around you are so impulsive, getting violent over the smallest things. That's really not right."
Ulysses was behind this. He wasn't saying it outright because he was afraid of being recorded, but every sentence was a threat.
From now on, if she didn't drop the charges, he would make sure no one around her had any peace.
Scarlett quickly pulled the phone away from her ear, hit record, then put it back and said to him, "Ulysses, you think pulling these little stunts can threaten me?"
"Dream on. I'm telling you, just wait to go to jail!"
"And the car that hit me last night, you arranged that too, didn't you? You're still out on bail, and you dare to be this arrogant. You really don't take the law seriously at all."
Every sentence Scarlett spoke was digging a trap for Ulysses, but Ulysses was very cautious and didn't take the bait at all.
"Scarlett, don't accuse people falsely. Don't pin things on me without evidence. I'm a very law-abiding person now. I'm just reminding you not to be so stubborn. You weren't even hurt, forgive and forget."
Scarlett gripped her phone and laughed coldly, "Ulysses, if you weren't behind this, how would you know so quickly and in such detail? Rhea's son is in this situation because you had someone set it up, trying to force me to drop the charges against you. I'm telling you, it's not happening."
Ulysses chuckled, "Scarlett, that's slander. I could sue you for defamation."
In the past, Scarlett would have hung up on him long ago. The only reason she was still talking to him now was to try to get him to slip up.
"Ulysses, I'm actually really puzzled. You used to be completely unwelcome in the Mitchell family. Now the Mitchell family is pushing you out as a money-making tool, and you seem pretty happy about it. You're even willing to be Octavia's pawn. Were Indigo and his daughter really that good to you before?"
