Chapter 188 Pitiful
The next day, Yara went to kindergarten and told Hayden she couldn't go to his house on Saturday.
Hayden asked why, and Yara told him she was going to visit someone else's house.
After hearing this, Hayden felt envious. He had never been invited to anyone's house before.
So he stayed in a bad mood until school ended, and then he saw that Octavia had come to pick him up, which made him even more annoyed.
Scarlett hadn't arrived yet, so Yara had to wait at the kindergarten. Hayden stayed with her, and Octavia had no choice but to go along with it.
She walked up to Yara and said with a smile.
"Your name is Yara?"
Yara looked at Octavia in front of her, knowing that she was Hayden's mother. She had seen her in the hotel last time, and Octavia had looked very fierce then, and Yara didn't like her either.
Octavia was smiling now, but it was like a wicked witch's smile, and the way she looked at her seemed unfriendly. Yara was scared.
But Hayden had a good relationship with her, so for Hayden's sake, Yara nodded.
"Hayden and you are close, you can call me Ms. Mitchell," Octavia said.
Yara pressed her lips together and said nothing, her big eyes staring at her defensively. Octavia kept smiling.
"You don't need to be afraid. I'll like you just as much as I like Hayden," Octavia said.
Yara turned and walked away, not wanting to deal with her.
Octavia felt upset about being ignored, but she forced a smile, stood up, and said to Hayden.
"Hayden, let's go. She has the kindergarten teacher with her, she'll be fine."
Hayden glanced at her coldly. "If you want to leave, go by yourself."
Seeing this, Octavia had no choice but to wait. After all, she was supposed to be a good mother now, wasn't she?
"Are you Hayden's mom?" Suddenly, another parent came over to chat.
Octavia nodded with a friendly smile. The parent started flattering her, "So you're his mom! You're so beautiful, no wonder Hayden is good-looking too."
Octavia was thrilled to hear this and started chatting with her, asking what her child's name was. Then the parent pulled her child over to meet them.
Yara watched from the side, saying nothing, observing Octavia's behavior, and disliking her even more.
That classmate often bullied Hayden, yet Hayden's mom was smiling and praising that classmate as well-behaved and smart. How could Hayden have a mom like this!
If it were Scarlett, she definitely wouldn't do this.
She looked over at Hayden and saw his face looked really bad, so she went over to comfort him.
"Don't be angry, what can you do with a mom like that?"
This was like rubbing salt in Hayden's wound. He glared at Yara, who pursed her little lips. "Why are you looking at me like that? You should be looking at your mom."
Just then, Scarlett's voice rang out. "Yara!"
Yara heard Scarlett's voice, looked up, and immediately broke into a smile. "Mommy!" She said goodbye to Hayden and ran straight to Scarlett.
Scarlett picked up Yara, didn't stop to chat, and walked away holding Yara's hand.
Hayden saw that Octavia was still talking to someone else. Angry, he started walking away. Seeing this, Octavia quickly said goodbye and chased after Hayden.
"Hayden, wait for me, don't walk so fast," Octavia called out.
Scarlett and her daughter were walking ahead. They heard the voice behind them but didn't turn around. Yara did turn around though, and seeing Hayden, she said, "Mommy, Hayden is pretty pitiful. His mom actually praised the classmate who hurt Hayden, calling him smart and well-behaved. Hayden was so upset."
Yara's sweet, childlike voice spoke up for Hayden.
Scarlett had nothing to do with them anymore and didn't want to get involved. She looked down and said, "He has his parents, he's not pitiful."
Yara pouted, "But I think his mom is not good."
Scarlett stopped her, "Yara, you can't talk badly about people behind their backs. This is other people's business."
Yara made a face. "I know."
Scarlett took Yara to her car. After getting in, she saw Octavia catch up to Hayden and keep asking.
"Why did you walk so fast? Why didn't you wait for mommy?"
Hayden glared at her. "Didn't you want to talk to people and praise how great others are?"
Octavia was stunned, then understood why he was upset. He didn't like her talking to his classmate's mom, so she apologized, "I'm sorry, I was just chatting with her for a bit. If you don't like it, I won't do it again."
Hayden said coldly, "From now on, don't come pick me up anymore."
Octavia looked at him in disbelief. "You don't want me to pick you up? How can you say that? I want to spend more time with you every day to build our relationship, and now you're rejecting me. I'm really hurt."
As she spoke, she lowered her head and pretended to cry.
Hayden was a kid, yes, but he was good at reading emotions. He saw through her act right away, sneered, and showed his disdain.
"Never seen anyone as fake as you."
With that, he started walking, not wanting to ride in Octavia's car anymore. As he walked, he called Ambrose.
Ambrose answered quickly, "What's wrong?"
"Send someone to pick me up," Hayden said.
"No one came to pick you up?" Ambrose asked, confused.
"She came to pick me up, but I don't want her to. Don't let her pick me up anymore," Hayden said angrily into the phone. Ambrose's expression darkened, and his voice turned colder.
"What did she do to you?"
"Go ask her yourself!" Hayden said, then hung up angrily.
Ambrose then called the bodyguards who were secretly protecting Hayden and told them to take Hayden home. After that, he called Octavia.
"What did you do to make Hayden angry?" After the call connected, Ambrose's voice had no warmth at all.
Octavia was already angry, and now Ambrose was calling to question her, making her even more annoyed. But she still controlled her emotions and told Ambrose what had happened.
"He didn't like me talking to his classmate's mom. I didn't know, and I guess I made him angry."
Ambrose responded flatly, "Don't pick him up anymore. If you want to see him, just pick him up directly from my house."
Octavia had her own reasons for picking up Hayden. She wanted everyone around Ambrose and his son to know she existed, which is why she did this.
Now she was being rejected, and she was furious inside. But angry as she was, she still followed Ambrose's instructions.
"Fine, I won't pick him up anymore."
Octavia watched as the bodyguards took Hayden away, clenching her fists tightly until her nails dug painfully into her palms. Then she turned and got into her car.
Scarlett, sitting in her car, saw all this and couldn't help narrowing her eyes. Then she heard Yara say.
"Mommy, Hayden's mom looks really scary, like the evil witch in TV shows who hurts people."
Scarlett snapped back to attention and didn't know what to say for a moment, because Octavia's reaction didn't seem like what a mother should do - it seemed kind of dark instead.
Could an Octavia like this really treat Hayden well?
