Chapter 189 Erupted
The thought of Hayden being wronged made Scarlett feel an inexplicable sadness, and she couldn't quite put her finger on why she felt that way. Perhaps it was because after having Yara, she couldn't bear to see children being bullied.
But Hayden was someone else's child, and there was nothing she could do to help.
At 7 PM, the Silver Oak Heights villa was brightly lit.
As soon as Ambrose stepped through the door, he heard Kai softly coaxing Hayden to eat. Hayden was throwing a tantrum.
"Eating alone is boring."
At the sound of Ambrose's footsteps, the servants all looked toward the entrance. They knew Ambrose was home. As soon as he appeared, they greeted him respectfully.
"Mr. Boleyn is home."
Ambrose's expression was cold. He casually tossed his coat onto the sofa, rolling up his sleeves as he walked toward Hayden.
"Eating alone is boring? Should I call Octavia to keep you company?" Ambrose went straight for Hayden's sore spot.
Hayden glared at him angrily. Ambrose always loved threatening him, but there was nothing he could do about it because he was still too young to make his own decisions. Sulking, he climbed into his dining chair.
Only after seeing him settle down did Ambrose go wash his hands before eating.
At the large dining table, the father and son occasionally locked eyes. Ambrose could tell what was on Hayden's mind, but he just wouldn't speak first.
Hayden's patience couldn't match Ambrose's. Unable to hold out, he spoke first.
"Did you make things right with her?"
"Who?" Ambrose asked, knowing full well, casually picking up his utensils.
Hayden put down his utensils, annoyed. "The one who got so mad at you that she left in another man's car!"
Ambrose picked up some food with his fork and snorted coldly, glancing at him. "You said you weren't going to talk to her. Why do you care?"
Hayden got anxious, his neck stretching up. "I just wanted her to know I was really angry."
"So are you still angry now?"
Hayden instantly deflated. He was still upset, but he was afraid that if he stayed angry, Scarlett really wouldn't talk to him anymore. Earlier, she had clearly seen him but didn't look at him.
Seeing Hayden go quiet, Ambrose scolded sharply, "Don't go silent on me."
"Didn't you say you wanted to get to know Octavia? It's only been a few days, and you're already fed up?"
Not mentioning Octavia would have been fine, but bringing her up made Hayden furious, his little face puffing up with anger.
"She's annoying and fake."
A smile played at Ambrose's lips as he deliberately asked, "How is she annoying? How is she fake?"
Hayden huffily told him everything Octavia had done, and after finishing, he declared, "Don't let her come to my school anymore. I don't want to see her."
"You were the one who wanted to get to know her."
This left Hayden speechless. He had been so angry at Scarlett that he'd made an impulsive, irrational decision. But he couldn't admit defeat, so he stuck his neck out, pretending to be confident.
"I was just trying it out. People need to try things to find the right path."
Ambrose scoffed lightly. "So have you found the right path now?"
"I think Octavia is actually pretty good." At this point, Hayden's eyes darted around as he asked, "When can I move back?"
Ambrose finished eating and put down his knife and fork, saying casually, "How should I know? Go ask Scarlett."
With that, he picked up his napkin to wipe his mouth, then stood up and left the dining table. Hayden was furious. Ambrose was talking big again that saying he could move back, but looking at him now, there was no hope of that.
He'd have to figure something out himself. Ideally, he could move back by Saturday so he could go with Scarlett to visit someone's house.
At 9 PM, Ambrose drove out from Silver Oak Heights and headed to their usual club.
In the exclusive VIP room, Ambrose sat on the sofa, holding a glass of wine, taking slow sips.
"Ambrose, I met with Ulysses yesterday and talked about my investment, but it's not completely signed yet. He's very cautious and won't let me near the core operations. I'm working on that now." Ruben picked up his glass and clinked it with Ambrose's.
"Of course, he's cautious. Even though I'm working with him now, he's still guarding against me." Ambrose said casually.
"Ambrose, to get him to let his guard down, you'll probably have to marry Octavia." Ruben grinned mischievously, taking a sip of wine and glancing at him sideways.
"Ambrose, your good looks can finally come in handy."
Ambrose shot him a cold look, but Ruben wasn't scared at all, just laughed and drank his wine.
As they were chatting, the door to the private room opened and Felix walked in.
"Felix, you always show up so late. Another business dinner?" Ruben sprawled lazily on the sofa.
"On my way here, I ran into someone I know. Got held up a bit." Felix came over and sat down, then picked up the bottle to pour himself a drink.
"Who did you run into?"
"Guess." Felix raised an eyebrow.
Hearing this, Ruben figured it was someone he knew, but he knew too many people and had no direction, so he pressed, "Don't keep me in suspense."
Felix picked up his glass, took a sip, and looked at Ambrose. "Ms. Mellon."
Ruben understood and also looked at Ambrose, asking, "What about her?"
This time, Felix didn't speak, just looked at Ambrose again. Ruben got it and didn't press further. The room suddenly fell silent.
"Speak." Ambrose couldn't stay silent.
Instead of answering, Felix asked back, "Ambrose, with all those rumors flying around about you and Octavia, did you break up with Ms. Mellon?"
Ambrose didn't respond but pulled out his phone and called Chase. "Who is she with right now?"
Chase naturally knew she meant Scarlett, so he said he'd check and hung up.
Felix and Ruben exchanged glances. Ruben leaned over. "She's not with Finnian, is she?"
"She is with Finnian. They looked pretty close together, probably dating." Felix's voice wasn't loud or soft, but all three could hear it.
Ambrose took a big sip of wine, and then Chase called back. What he said was the same as what Felix had said, but there was not only Finnian, but also Kenna, and another man.
Ambrose said nothing and hung up.
Scarlett had been very busy lately, spending every day at the construction site, monitoring the project's progress to make sure nothing went wrong with the art gallery.
Every day, she was covered in dust, but seeing the art gallery gradually taking shape gave her a great sense of accomplishment. The hard work was worth it.
Her days were full and she seemed energetic and spirited. Tonight, she had arranged to meet Finnian and Kenna to discuss the design project she'd agreed to do for Kenna's friend last time.
At first, Scarlett asked Kenna to go to the Boleyn Group, but later Scarlett called Kenna back and designed privately.
Tonight was about discussing the design. The meeting went well. After dinner, Finnian drove Scarlett home. They didn't talk much on the way, especially about Finnian's confession over the phone last time - she still hadn't responded to him.
As they neared Lakeside Garden, Scarlett finally brought it up.
"Finnian, about what you mentioned last time, I've thought about it seriously. It's just that I'm not ready to start a new relationship right now."
Finnian smiled. "I figured as much. Don't worry about it. I know you just went through a painful relationship and it's hard to start a new one so soon. But I'll wait. When you're ready to start again, you have to give me a chance."
Scarlett smiled. "Okay."
When they got out of the car, Finnian got out too. They were both relaxed. When saying goodbye, Finnian suggested a hug.
Scarlett knew Finnian had liked her for so long, so she agreed.
But their embrace was caught by Ambrose's eyes as he stood in the shadows. His clenched fist showed veins bulging on the back of his hand.
