Chapter 14
Tara's POV
For the hundredth time, He called, I immediately declined the call. Dave looked at me, with confusion written all over his face.
“Won't you take that?” He asked, referring to my phone, I smiled then shook my head.
“It's not important.” When I get home I'll call back.” I said as I put my phone on Airplane mode then tossing it smoothly into my bag.
“So where do you stay?” He asked,
“At the golden Es_” I immediately shut myself, how could I say I lived in the Golden Estate when the boss lived there and basically, I'm not the near to the caliber of people who lived in that estate.
“The next junction after these” I said pointing ahead, he smiled .
“We live in the same route. That's too strange to be a coincidence.”
“Well, probably.”
The cab came to a halt, he offered to pay which I didn't bulge, I stood at the strange streets with buzzing lights. The street was lively, like the typical one I grew up in.
My eyes went around, I noticed a few homeless people seated by the side of the road in the cold.
“So sad” I said to myself. Shortly, a little boy not more than five years old ran to me, holding flowers in his hand.
“Would you love to buy my flowers.” He says with his cute voice,
“You want flowers? Dave turned to me, talk the flowers from the little boy.
“Huh?” the words were not coming out,
“How much is this?” He asked the boys, who looked at us with so much admiration.
“It's $5. Your pretty girlfriend deserves two.” He says, making Dave and I share a hearty laugh.
“What? No?” I said almost immediately,
“Are you too young to know things about love” I said admist laughter.
“Well, He's not wrong. We could pass as a couple” Dave teased, I nudge him gently on the stomach.
“Stop saying that, a kid is here.” I said with a laugh.
“Ouch!” He slowly reached out for his pocket, pulling out two $5 dollar bills, handing it to Dave.
“Thank you and have a great day.” The says running off to next available adult that past.
An awkward silence reign between us as he handed me the flower.
“Have it. “ My heart melted instantly, it's so strange how I'd be meet the nicest guys after my experience with a monster. Maybe fate was finally smiling on me.
“Thank you, Dave.” I flashed him a warm smile.
“ You know you're the only one who seemed to be in my business at Hills Enterprise.” I added, as I smelt the beautiful fragrance of the roses.
“Well, I'm friendly, for some reason they think you have something to do with Boss Andrew.
“Why?
“Well, I served as an intern in Hills Enterprise before I was reinstated as a full time staff and I remembered he dated a lady once, but she was not a good impact on him. Everyone thinks the ladies he gets close to are either slots or gold digger.” He added.
“Huh? That's a terrible stereotype.” I said in defense.
“Why? Apparently you're not a familiar face but you walked down to office with the CEO, of course everyone would begin to talk “ he says, as we both walked down the streets, u dernthe night light, the honking of vehicles on the road and sweet smell emanating from the restaurant by the road side resonated the moment.
“Is that why, Laura hates me?” I asked, as we took a seat that Long wooden bench.
“Laura? She never likes anyone..so do not take it personally.” He says, causing me.to laugh, who hates everyone, well, that explains her hesitant acceptance towards me.
“So tell me about yourself.” He asked, for a moment I felt like I had been poured hot water.
“Huh? Me?
“Yes you.” He added.
I put on a fake smile, “ well, there's nothing to know about me. I'm just a regular girl seeking to find peace in the universe.” Dave looked at me, not convinced with my answer.
“We all want to find pace too.” He teased, making me laugh. Well, I couldn't possibly tell him got married at eighteen to an abusive man and got divorced five years later after I lost my child. No I'm currently homeless and I love the boss of Hills Enterprise and I am dating him now?
“Why is my life this dramatic?” My subconscious yelled within me.
I checked my time, and I was late already, Andrew must have gotten home already expecting me home. I stood up abruptly as if bitten by an ant.
“I have to get going.” I said to him,
He stood up slowly, _ that's fine, I would walk you home. Which is your place here?” I froze on the spot, I lost my voice but managed to say,
“I want to stop by and see a friend. After that I'll head home.” I said, he nodded then turned to leave.
“I'll see you tomorrow then, bye Tara.” I waved at him, watching him leave, as soon as he was out of sight I flagged down a taxi,
“Where to .Ms. ? The driver asked,
“Golden_” then I thought of Carlos,
“Take me to Marie Estate.” I have to cut off Carlos this time..the car turned heading to Marie Estate.
Finally, getting there, I got down from the taxi as I headed for Carlo's building, putting off my airplane mode, as I was about to ring the doorbell, Andrew called,
“Where are you?” His voice worried with a mix of anger in it.
“I'll talk you later,” I immediately hung up, as I took a deep breath as I rang the door bell, but no one answered.
“Isn't he home?”
I there rang the bell again,
“Who's there?!” I heard the tiny female voice from within, my heart clenched.
“Stella.”
She opened up the door, looking at me with a disgusted look on her face
“She actually took over”.
