Show Them Fire

Show Them Fire
“Mother, for the umpteenth time, she is my mate! Isn't that what you've always wanted?” I asked her as I pinched the bridge of my nose in frustration.

“It's impossible that the moon goddess would send such riffraff your way after waiting for so long. She's a witch!” She argued and my jaw ticked in response.

“I am not having this conversation with you any longer. She is my mate and you will respect that, mother.” I said.

I was beginning to lose control and my wolf was tearing at the surface.

She took a stubborn step forward.

“And I am your mother, you will respect that. I know when something is not right for you. Sabrina is so perfect and she even proposed to you! Accept it.” she said.

A growl slipped from me and she took a solid step backwards.

“Kieran is my mate, not a witch or anything of the sort. She is my mate and the future Luna of this pack. I don't want to hear any other thing” I said as I glanced at the door.

Her lips parted in shock.

“Are you sending me out?” She asked, completely in disbelief.

“If you want to stay alive, yes” I said as I struggled to keep my wolf at bay.

“Unbelievable!” She huffed before storming out.

“Easy” I calmed my wolf and after a few seconds, he calmed down.

He was completely agitated.
I sighed in defeat as I slumped in my chair.

My only hope that my mother will at least be happy that I have my mate was just squashed.

As much as I hated to admit it, Kieran was right.
Nobody wanted her.

But they have no choice.
She's going to be their Luna.
Whether they liked it or not.
She would make an amazing queen.

Sabrina.
She caused it.
She played her game well.
She made sure to speak before my announcement.
Ordinarily, without her input, the people would have accepted Kieran with open arms.
But now, they wanted Sabrina.

I pushed the raging thoughts aside and tried to focus on what mattered.
I had to make Kieran my queen as soon as possible.

I changed out of my clothes into something more comfortable and stepped out.

“Your Majesty,” one of the guards called and I turned to him.

“Your mother, she requested for the room of the girl-” he started but I cut him off.

Within a second, my hand was wrapped around his neck, and his feet were off the ground.

“Girl?” I asked, my eyes blazing. What was with everyone and disrespecting her?

He struggled against my hand.

“The Lu-Luna” he forced out and I narrowed my eyes at him for a second, before eventually dropping him.

He crumpled to the floor before quickly putting himself together and getting up again.

“Did you tell her?” I asked and he shook his head.
Good.
They dared not.

Still, I didn't trust my mother not to find out on her own, so I basically ran to Kieran's room.

The guards at the door looked so scared and the door was slightly open.

“Your Majesty, The Lady Sabrina and your moth-” One of them started to explain but I didn't let him finish.
I would deal with them later for failing to do a simple job of making sure no one goes in.

I entered the room and closed the door behind me.
Kieran was a crumpled mess on the floor. There were dried streaks of mascara down her face that showed that she had been crying. She was in a robe, which showed she was about to shower or something.

Oh goddess.
I ran to her side and wrapped her in my arms. She pushed me back and I studied her face.

She looked defeated.

“What happened?” I asked and she shook her head.

“Nothing” she whispered.

“Kieran, whatever Sabrina and my mother did, please don't -” I started to say but she cut me off.

“Don't” she said and I sighed.

She moved to get up and I offered my hand but she didn't take it.

Is she mad at me?

“Did I do something?” I asked and she shook her head, before making her way to the bathroom.

I sat on her bed and waited for her. It took a while but she eventually came out make-up free and she was wearing her own clothes.

A simple baby blue dress.
She removed the towel that wrapped around her head and it fell in cascading wet beauty down her back.
She grabbed a brush and used the vanity. I watched as she dried her air silently, no single emotion on her face.

When she was done, she went into the closet and came out with the bag she used to bring her stuff.
I stiffened as I watched her start to pack her stuff in it.

I got up immediately and grabbed her hand.

“What are you doing?” I asked as she looked at me.

“I'm leaving,” she said.

“Kieran, please don't” I begged.

She can't leave me again.
Goddess, no.

“I have to. Your moth-” she started to explain but I shook my head.

“Why should her opinion matter? Why should anybody's opinion matter? I want you here, Kieran. The moon goddess wants you here. That's why she made us mates” I argued.

“It's not that simple. I can't go through what I just did every day of my life. I just can't. I'm building something for myself Xander. I haven't exactly earned much but at least, I'm working for my own money and nobody looks down on me on a daily basis” she explained and I swallowed.

“Kieran, please, just tell me exactly what happened” I said and she looked at me for a second before she sighed and sat on the bed.

I followed suit.
She ran her hands through her hair, sweeping stray strands away.

“There's nothing much to say, except that your mother and Sabrina ganged up on me. Your mother slapped me and they both hurled hurtful things at me. Called me an orphan, a slave, a riffraff, all sorts of things.” She started and I clenched my fists in anger.

“You know, that's not even what hurt. I mean, it's all true. What hurt was when they accused me of being bewitching you. It just showed how less I am. I'm not worthy of you, Xander. And I know that, I've always known that. It hurts but it's the truth and all I needed was that reminder. They're right, you know. Sabrina will make a better queen. So, I'll let her. Your mother has ordered for me to leave this place” Tears were streaming down her face at this point and I, on the other hand, was boiling with anger. I managed to keep my cool for her sake.

“Kieran, I'm the one who's not worthy of you. I am your second chance mate. You are my first” I explained.

“I will worship you till the end of my days” I said as I took her hands and rubbed a soothing thumb across it.

“Please don't leave. They're wrong. They don't get to choose who I decide to spend my life with. You don't get to decide that for me, Kieran. I want you and that's all I want.” I said as I wiped the tears off her cheeks.

“I love you Kieran. With my life. I would die for you. If you feel the tiniest bit of love towards me, then, please fight for us” I begged as I gripped her hands a little tighter.

She searched my eyes before she sighed.

“But your mother ordered me to leave,” she argued.

“She doesn't have that right. I'm the king of this palace” I said and she shook her head, worry etched between her brows.

“I don't want to cause any problems between you and your mother, Xander” she said and I smiled at how considerate she was.

“She already crossed the line with me, Kieran. That's between me and her. Don't bother yourself with it. Next time anyone treats you like this, make sure they remember who exactly you are” I said and she stared at me with something I couldn't quite decipher. Almost like my words did something to her.

Almost like she was ready to tear the world apart.

“Don't take it back” she said and I smiled.

“Never. Give them fire” I said and she nodded.
I always knew she had a fierce side.

“Let's go to my room. Will you stay with me?” I asked and she cocked her head to the side, considering it.

“Okay” she finally said and I smiled.

“I'll be going back to work soon though, you know that right?” She asked and I nodded.

I didn't want her to leave. Not because I didn't respect her job but because her simply leaving my side made me anxious. But I wasn't going to tell her that.

I allowed her to pack her remaining things as I stepped out to deal with the guards.

One sentence.

“Report yourselves to Oliver” I said.

They were shaking in their boots.
As calm as my best friend seemed to be, he was an absolutely brutal beta.

They were gone by the time I was out again with Kieran.
I threw her bag over my shoulder and held her hand as we made our way to my room.

“I don't think I mentioned how amazing your room is” she stated and I smiled.

“You like it?” I asked and she nodded as she walked around and studied the environment.

“I love it, the aesthetics… It's just so beautiful.” She said and I smiled.

“You're so beautiful” I said and she froze before turning to me, her cheeks turning a shade of pink.

“Don't be cringe, Xander” she said as she rolled her eyes and looked away.

I made my way to her. She looked so beautiful.
I hugged her from behind and buried my head in the crook of her neck.

“Goddess, you smell so divine” I said and she giggled as she turned around in my arms, now facing me.

“You too” she said as she blushed before burying her head in my chest.

My wolf was slowly beginning to tear at the surface.
I wanted her so bad. But I remembered what she told me. The trauma she faced. So, I was going to take things slow.
I was going to go at her pace.

“Kieran” I whispered and she hummed in response, pulling back slightly, just enough to see my face.

“Can I kiss you?” I asked and I swear, I heard her heart skip a beat.

She blinked blankly for a second before her eyes darted to my lips, then back to
my eyes.

“We don't have to if-” I started to say but she cut me off, as her lips crashed into mine softly.

My eyes widened in shock for the fraction of a second before I started to kiss her back.
