Chapter 78 Chapter 78: Balthazar Arrives

Chapter 78 Chapter 78: Balthazar Arrives
Selena’s eyes widened in disbelief. She couldn’t fathom that Rabanut had sealed his powers because of love. But why? What use did he have for love?

More than anyone else, Selena could feel very clearly that Rabanut did not love her. During the time she was enslaved to him, he made it clear that she was nothing more than a tool for him to satisfy his sexual desires, making her forget how deeply Caesar had once loved her.

At first, Selena was truly devastated when Caesar, having transformed into the supreme god Rabanut, treated her so cruelly. She had thought perhaps he had lost his memory and didn’t remember that he had once loved her, or that he was under the control of some external force. But time proved that he hadn’t lost his memory, and he wasn’t being controlled by anyone. He simply no longer loved her.

So what did the words of this female demon mean?

She narrowed her eyes, suspicious of the Madame’s words. Was this just a ploy to deceive her?

"She’s telling the truth."

Suddenly, the voice of one of the guardian deities echoed in her mind.

To avoid being detected by Madame and her followers, the guardian deities could only communicate with Selena through her consciousness.

“Amaryllis, you know about Rabanut’s royal lineage, don’t you?”

Selena remained silent, lost in thought.

When Rabanut was still Caesar, the demon king, she had seen countless black scales spreading across his body. During her three years by his side, Selena often worried about what would happen when those black scales completely consumed him.

Caesar had reassured her gently many times. He promised that no matter what happened, he would ensure her safe return to the human world.

But then, one day, a being claiming to be a high-ranking angel appeared, subduing Caesar, humiliating and attacking him, with the ultimate goal of taking Selena and making her his slave.

Caesar fought the high-ranking angel fiercely, causing the black scales to spread over his body even faster. Just as it seemed Caesar would lose and perish, the seal within him broke.

He transformed into a being with twelve pairs of white wings, resembling the angels described in the scriptures Selena had read.

He defeated the high-ranking angel, claimed heaven, and became the supreme god.

It was only then that Selena learned the truth: Caesar was actually the seventh prince of the supreme god. In the past, he had defied heaven’s laws, which led to him being sealed and condemned as the demon king.

Selena’s memories were interrupted by the voice of the guardian deity:

“To fully unleash his power, God Rabanut devoured all his emotions. But perhaps because you and he are destined for each other, he suffers immense pain whenever he’s away from you for too long. He could have kept you in heaven with him forever to end that torment, but he didn’t. Perhaps he realized how miserable you were being treated as a sexual slave, or he didn’t want you to hate him. So, he kept the promise he made to you when he was still Caesar, returning you to the human world after you bore him two princes. But during the days apart from you, his pain grew unbearable. In the end, he sealed his powers and memories, allowing his soul to inhabit the body of a human infant. Only this way could he regain the ability to ‘love’ you.”

Selena felt her mind spinning in confusion, tears streaming down her face.

Why hadn’t Caesar told her this? No, he wasn’t Caesar—he was the supreme god Rabanut. God Rabanut didn’t love Amaryllis.

Selena was lost in her chaotic emotions, completely oblivious to Madame’s scrutinizing gaze.

"Are you thinking of escaping me? Don’t waste your efforts. Just stay here until your use as bait is fulfilled.” Madame stared intently at Selena, as if fearing she was plotting something that could harm her.

Selena tried to move her body, but she found herself completely paralyzed. The Madame’s spell had taken hold. She stared at the Madame and said seriously:

"You want to use me to lure the god here? He doesn’t love me enough to risk himself for my sake.”

The Madame sneered and nodded toward one side, saying:

"You underestimate yourself. Hasn’t he already arrived?”

Selena followed the Madame’s gaze. The moment she saw who it was, her expression changed dramatically.

"Impossible!”

"Selena!”

Both of them shouted at the same time. Balthazar rushed over and embraced Selena tightly, his entire body trembling as if a man on the verge of despair had just found a beacon of hope.

"Thank goodness. I finally found you.”

Selena was stunned, unable to believe what she was seeing. Noticing her pale condition, Balthazar cupped her face and asked:

"What’s wrong? Are you hurt?”

Selena continued to stare at Balthazar, taking several seconds before she could finally speak:

"Are you the god Rabanut?”

Balthazar looked confused, his worry growing. Did she hit her head and start hallucinating?

"What are you talking about, Selena? Who is Rabanut?”

Hearing this, Selena became even more perplexed. Had the Madame mistaken him for someone else? Was Balthazar not Rabanut after all?

"Enough reminiscing, supreme god.”

The Madame’s greedy gaze lingered on Balthazar as if he were a prize waiting to be claimed.

She hadn’t been able to act in the city center due to the presence of too many humans. While human strength was insignificant to her, they had something called technology, and she wasn’t willing to waste her dark magic dealing with such unknowns.

Balthazar clenched his fists, glaring at her as he snarled:

"Damn it! So you were behind Selena’s kidnapping. No wonder everything happened so quickly. If you’re smart, you’ll let us go. Name your price, and I’ll give you whatever you want. If not, prepare to face the consequences.”

In Balthazar’s mind, the Madame was after money. He wasn’t the kind of man who strictly upheld the law, insisting that every criminal be brought to justice. All that mattered was Selena’s safety.

"Ha ha… money?”

The Madame laughed as if she had just heard the funniest joke in the world. With a wave of her hand, countless piles of gold and jewels cascaded onto the floor, leaving Balthazar dumbfounded.

"See that? My treasure could sustain all of humanity for generations.”

Balthazar immediately became more cautious. The fact that none of his people had arrived yet only deepened his unease. Finally, gritting his teeth, he asked:

"What do you really want?”

The Madame licked her lips, hungrily eyeing Balthazar.

"Your power, of course, god Rabanut.”

She had lurked in humanity’s filth for so long, collecting dark energy. But it had been too long. Now that the chance for domination had come, there was no way she would let it slip away.
Madame unfurled her tattered black wings and flew toward Balthazar. In that moment, Balthazar believed she was trying to harm Selena, so he desperately embraced her, shielding her with his body, even though he had no idea that she was pregnant.

Selena was both touched and terrified. She quickly asked the two attendants for a way to save her and Balthazar, but the response she received was:

"We underestimated the power of that demon. She has likely absorbed too much dark energy from humans, and now we can’t defeat her. We were planning to abandon you and leave, but then Lord Rabanut arrived. Since he’s been sealed, there’s nothing we can do."

Selena: ...

These two gods were unbelievably irresponsible. If she survived this, she would definitely urge Balthazar—no, Lord Rabanut—to strip them of their positions as his attendants.

After all, both they and the demon claimed he had come to the human world because of her, which proved he loved her. And if he loved her, of course, he would listen to her.

Thinking this, Selena felt a bit of pride swell within her. She was someone the supreme god loved.

However, this was not the time for daydreaming. She quickly asked:

"Are you going to let the supreme god die at the hands of a demon? If she steals his power, your deaths won't be far off either."

Selena’s words struck fear into the hearts of the two gods, so when Madame lunged forward to grab Balthazar again, they appeared and intercepted her attack. One of them dispelled the control spell on Selena and shouted:

"Take the god to the place with the most humans!"

Balthazar was still in shock from the sudden appearance of two winged beings when Selena grabbed his hand and pulled him toward the car parked across the street.

"Selena, what’s going on? What are we dealing with?"
