Chapter 38
(Juliette's POV)
"That's impossible," I whispered, shocked.
I clutched at my blanket as I felt a rush of panic. The doctor's words were like a stab straight to my chest. It was a nightmare for me and I didn't know how I was supposed to escape.
"Congratulations on your pregnancy," he told me, again.
My face paled and I couldn't react or say anything. I saw Damian come straight to me and look at me. The shock was also visible on his face. I don't know what he's thinking right now, but I'm sure he's feeling very happy because this is what he wanted from the start.
"Pregnant? Are you sure?" he asked the doctor who examined me.
"Yes. It's only one week old."
"No, no," I muttered. I touched my stomach with my trembling hands.
I didn't want to have a child with Damian. My pregnancy would only make him feel good while I was racked with guilt. I didn't want to carry the child of the man who had killed my parents, but I couldn't kill this innocent baby wolf either.
"Thank you, you can go," Damian ordered.
"Then excuse me," he said, bowing towards me and Damian in turn.
He immediately glanced at me when the doctor had left the room. He sat on the bed and I quickly shifted my body to keep my distance from him.
"Are you happy?" I asked with an edge to my voice. "This is what you wanted, right?"
"From now on you need to be careful. You're pregnant and don't do any activitiesー"
"Shouldn't you at least pretend to feel guilty for me, Damian?!" I yelled hysterically, cutting him off. "You made me pregnant with the child of a man who murdered my parents. It makes me disgusted with myself," I hissed.
"What do you want me to do? Apologize? I will apologize to you for carrying my baby wolf. But remember that you promised to do so before."
"That was before I knew that you were a heartless bastard!" I shouted in disgust.
"That's still your duty as my Luna, Juliette. And you can't deny it..."
"I will kill this baby," I threatened him.
"You can't. You never will,” he said. His disdain for me hurt my pride. I didn't like seeing him feel victorious after all the things he did to me.
"You think I dare not kill this baby? It is your baby and I don't want them born into this world!!!" I exclaimed. I felt my tears fall and my body trembled with fear.
I kept touching my stomach. I felt fear, guilt, and frustration at that time. Something that made me feel surrounded by such darkness that I didn't know the right direction for me to escape. Everything felt horrible and I was scared.
"Your baby wolf... If you can kill them, do it right before me," he challenged.
"You're an asshole, Damian. You're a monster and I hate you. I swear I will get back at you," I hissed.
I burst into tears. Biting my lip so hard that it bled. I felt ashamed and disappointed in myself because, in reality, I couldn't and didn't dare to do any of that. I realized that I also wanted this baby. That this baby is often my child. As a mother, I loved this baby more than my life.
However, when I kept thinking that this baby wolf was also Damian's child, it made me so angry and disgusted with myself. It would make him feel even more happy and arrogant that he had managed to get what he wanted, which was offspring.
"I won't fight back if you want to kill me. But remember that we are bound to each other. If I die, you die too," he said. He looked at me intently with a cold expression on his face. "Hold to live with me for the sake of your baby wolf. Because you still have to live to take care of it."
I smiled wryly. "I feel more sorry for them because they has a father who is a murderer. I hope they won't grow up like you."
"I hope so too. It would be good if they inherited their mother's kindness." He stood up.
I felt so painful hearing his words. It felt like my heart was being squeezed so hard that I couldn't bear the pain. His eyes were cold and expressionless. He didn't care about my feelings at all. Or was it that he didn't care from the start and it was all just a mask he wore?
He tricked me into becoming his Luna just because he wanted to get offspring. He didn't love me from the start. And I shouldn't have been gullible just because of a little gesture of concern from him either.
"Tell me if you need anythingー"
"I don't want to see you, so get out of here. And from today on, don't ever come into this room without my permission. I no longer want to sleep in the same bed with you," I cut him off, glaring at him.
"Whatever you want," he retorted in a snappish tone. He walked out, slamming the door so violently that I gasped in shock.
I was crying again when Damian left. I curled up in my room as I kept touching my stomach. Confirming that there was a fetus in my stomach and that it was our wolf cub. I still couldn't believe it.
"I'm pregnant?" I whispered looking down at my stomach. "Now, what should I do?"
I don't know what step to take. I can't keep living here with Damian, with all the resentment I have, and my pregnant state. This makes me feel even more guilty. Every night I dreamt about my house burning down, my parents crying and moaning for help, and their disappointment that I had become Damian's mate and carried his baby wolf.
"I didn't know who to lean on. I feel like I'm so tired that I have no energy," I said, "I hope I won't hate you when you're born. I love you, but I hate your father so much that I feel like I need to have something to escape my pain from. I hope you don't hate me for this."
