Chapter 312 Too Simple, Not Following Common Sense
Chapter 312 Too Simple, Not Following Common Sense
"Aaron, you're really too much. I have good intentions, why can't you see that? Why do you have to treat me so badly? Fine, you want us to leave, right? We'll leave then."
Marlowe's face flushed red. Especially in front of Emily, she felt a vague sense of shame.
She stamped her foot in anger, even forgetting what Calista had just said to guide her into disliking Emily. After saying those angry words, she called the two doctors and left.
The two doctors had been hired at high pay, only to be distrusted. Their faces didn't look too good either.
The elderly doctor looked through the ICU window at the patients inside.
"Sir, your parents are seriously injured. If we use acupuncture needles, there's still a twenty to thirty percent chance we can wake them up. But if you just leave it alone and their condition worsens later, even God himself won't be able to help!"
The doctor spoke from the heart, telling the truth.
The middle-aged man beside him wasn't optimistic about using needles to stimulate the patients awake.
In his view, when patients are in a prolonged coma after a car accident with head injuries, the best approach is still surgery—clearing the blood clots in the brain to give them a chance of waking up.
If left untreated, the blood in the brain could spread. If the body doesn't absorb it, it could later cause increased intracranial pressure, putting the patients in real danger.
Emily first asked the middle-aged man, "If you operate, how confident are you?"
He frowned.
Strangely, Aaron, the patient's family member, hadn't even spoken yet, but this girl who looked barely over twenty had quite the presence, immediately asking this question.
"Thirty percent at most."
The middle-aged man's thirty percent didn't even account for various possible complications during surgery.
In reality, it was just over twenty percent.
Everyone present caught the implication.
Clearly, they didn't agree with this treatment plan.
The middle-aged man could guess what everyone was thinking.
He explained solemnly, "The success rate is low, but if we don't operate and continue like this, forget thirty percent—there won't even be a ten percent chance of survival."
Emily shook her head. "No way!"
Calista hadn't caught up with Marlowe. Hearing Emily speak now, she wanted to laugh inside.
Did Emily think that by putting on this act, these two men would think she was so impressive?
Aaron hadn't even spoken yet, and she was already spouting nonsense.
It would only make the men think she was presumptuous and stupid.
"Emily, if you don't understand, don't pretend you do. This concerns Mr. Hill's parents' lives. Even if you want to show off, you shouldn't be talking right now."
After mocking Emily, Calista "kindly" reminded Aaron, "Mr. Hill, be careful who you befriend. Sometimes, making certain people shut up is good for you and good for your parents."
"Shut up!"
Aaron frowned and spoke with displeasure.
Calista smiled, thinking she had convinced Aaron. She looked mockingly at Emily, "Did you hear that? You'd better shut up."
But Aaron's cold gaze shot toward Calista. "I'm telling you to shut up."
Calista's triumphant smile froze on her face. She couldn't quite believe it. "You—are you mistaken? I'm doing this for you, for your parents' sake."
"You're the one pretending to know what you don't. You should leave first—you're affecting our judgment."
Emily spoke. She wasn't interested in the middle-aged man's treatment plan.
But this elderly doctor's proposal to use acupuncture needles—Emily supported that.
However, thirty percent clearly wasn't enough.
If she took action herself, she should be able to achieve seventy to eighty percent.
But since this elderly doctor could propose such a plan with such odds, he must be quite skilled himself. She wouldn't mind if he watched while she treated the patients.
Aaron saw what Emily was thinking and directly called security to escort Calista out.
Being thrown out, Calista had never been so humiliated.
She had originally thought that by using Marlowe, she could win over Aaron. Then Emily would lose a backer, and it would be much easier for her to make moves against Emily.
She hadn't expected Aaron to be so ungrateful—not only driving away Marlowe, but also throwing her out.
Though Marlowe was really useless too. She had reminded her to focus on Emily, but after a few words from Aaron, Marlowe had focused on the wrong thing.
She needed to go back and think about how to drive a wedge between Emily and Aaron.
Better yet, if something really happened to Aaron's parents, she could make an issue out of it...
As for the middle-aged doctor, hearing Emily say "no way," he also thought she didn't understand anything, which was why she dared to speak so boldly.
"Treating patients and saving lives isn't something where you watch a few short videos and think you can diagnose and cure people. You'd better not interfere."
The middle-aged doctor first criticized Emily, then turned to Aaron. "Doctors have compassionate hearts. I'm only saying more because I'm considering the patients. You need to make a decision soon for your parents—will you consider surgery or not?"
Aaron said nothing, only looking at Emily.
Emily nodded at Aaron.
Meaning, she could treat them.
Only then did Aaron relax. He looked at the middle-aged doctor with a firm attitude. "Thank you for making the trip today. I'll have someone transfer the travel expenses and compensation to your account later. You don't need to worry about things here—I'm not choosing surgery."
Seeing Aaron so stubborn, the middle-aged doctor said no more. "Since you won't listen, you'd better not regret it. I'm leaving."
The middle-aged doctor left, but the old man stayed.
He wasn't looking at Aaron now, but at Emily. "You know medicine, don't you?"
Emily wasn't surprised that the old man could tell she knew medicine.
"Sir, the fact that you can consider acupuncture and have a thirty percent chance is already very impressive. However, I have a better needling technique that can raise the odds to seventy or eighty percent. Would you be interested in observing?"
"Seventy percent? You?"
The elderly doctor wasn't being dismissive. It was just that Emily was so young, and he had never thought there could be a better method, so he couldn't help but doubt.
Emily nodded. "Yes!"
Observe? Of course he would observe.
Mainly, the elderly doctor was also worried that Emily might make things worse. If he watched from the side, he could step in at a critical moment.
"Patient's family member, have you thought this through? As far as I know, to have seventy percent confidence, aside from that legendary doctor, there really might not be anyone else with that level of skill. Even with that doctor, I've never actually seen her work.
It's just that a patient I once treated, whom I couldn't cure, was later said to have been saved by that doctor. I admit she probably has abilities that ordinary people don't, but it's only hearsay.
Now your friend here looks so young—are you sure about this?"
The elderly Chinese medicine doctor reminded them out of kindness.
Aaron and Emily exchanged glances. Emily's lips curved slightly.
How to put this?
Being praised to her face, Emily was happy and didn't feel embarrassed.
Emily didn't explain her identity to him.
Aaron just said gratefully to the elderly doctor, "Thank you for coming today. I trust her. If she says seventy percent, it won't be less than seventy percent. If you're not busy, would you like to stay and observe?"
Since Emily wanted to give him the opportunity to observe and learn, he was naturally willing to provide that chance.
And the man was genuinely considering his parents' welfare.
The elderly doctor just felt that young people these days were so stubborn they wouldn't listen to anything.
But both of them had such good attitudes. He thought about it and finally decided to stay.
He wanted to see exactly what Emily would do to more than double the success rate.
Afterward, Aaron negotiated with the hospital.
Soon Aaron had everything arranged. Emily changed clothes and entered the ICU with the elderly doctor to treat Aaron's parents.
Daniel waited outside with Aaron.
