Chapter 311 Not a Love Rival
Chapter 311 Not a Love Rival
"That's not necessary. If you have important business, you don't need to..."
Emily had no idea what Daniel was thinking. Worried that she might delay his important work, she declined.
In her view, Daniel was extremely busy with countless matters. There was no need for him to waste time on her.
But Daniel insisted, "I'm worried about you. I don't want what happened yesterday to happen again."
She was so smart and capable that it was easy to forget she was just a girl in her early twenties.
Daniel looked at her face, so delicate and youthful.
Thinking of her as still a young girl made him feel even more protective of her.
At the banquet, facing attacks from so many people, she probably wasn't as calm and composed inside as she appeared on the surface.
Daniel just wanted to do more, to shelter her under his wing.
Seeing she couldn't change his mind, Emily said, "Okay, as long as it doesn't delay your important business, let's go together."
Now that Aaron had taken over all of the Hill Group's business, it wouldn't be bad for Aaron and Daniel to get to know each other better.
Maybe they could even have more cooperation in the future.
Especially since Emily had some ideas about combining artificial intelligence with healthcare and family health.
Working with the Smith Group on that would be a great opportunity.
Having thought this through, Emily had no objections to Daniel coming along.
She even added, "Aaron has taken over the Hill Group now, and there will be AI-related projects in the future. You two should communicate and get to know each other better."
Daniel could tell that Emily sincerely wanted to promote friendly exchanges between him and Aaron.
Since this was what she wished for, he was willing to cooperate.
"Alright, I'd be very happy to have the chance to work with Aaron, even if just for your sake."
Daniel's words sounded a bit strange.
Emily didn't realize he was jealous, but her sensitive nature told her something seemed off.
Without thinking, she explained, "Thank you for your trust, but I think Aaron is worth it. You won't lose out. He's like family to me."
That one sentence suddenly made everything clear to Daniel.
Family!
Not a lover!
"Whatever you say. I'm looking forward to working together too!"
Daniel's expression relaxed, and the atmosphere seemed to lighten up.
Emily didn't know why that sentence had suddenly made Daniel so happy.
But since both were people she valued, it was great that they could get along well.
The car to pick up Emily soon arrived downstairs.
Emily and Daniel took the car together to the hospital entrance.
Aaron had been waiting at the entrance for a while.
Seeing Emily get out of the car, he immediately came over happily.
But just as he reached the car, he saw Daniel getting out right behind her.
Aaron's gaze deepened.
He pulled Emily toward him and asked in a low voice, "Why is he following you everywhere? Is he monitoring you?"
If that was the case, he'd take back what he said last night about Daniel being better than James.
He wanted Emily's next relationship to be happy and free.
Emily didn't want Aaron to misunderstand, so she quickly explained, "Don't talk nonsense. He's just worried about me. After what happened yesterday, he's a bit concerned. Plus, for future AI work, I want to combine it with family health and medical care. Vanguard Innovations Group will very likely collaborate with the Smith Group. It won't hurt for you to communicate and get to know him better."
Emily quickly gave a brief explanation in a low voice.
Aaron nodded, "Got it!"
But that didn't stop him from being sarcastic when greeting Daniel. "Mr. Smith, hello, we meet again. I'm somewhat relieved that you're here with Emily. After what happened yesterday, I don't want Emily to face something like that alone again."
The implication was that Daniel hadn't protected her well enough.
Daniel now saw Aaron as Emily's brother, so even though he heard the sarcasm, he wasn't annoyed at all. "Of course, I won't let anything like that happen again."
Only then did Aaron look away, satisfied.
He led Emily upstairs to see her parents.
Unexpectedly, they ran into several people outside the hospital room.
One was actually Calista, and another Emily didn't recognize, but she could tell she was close to Calista.
With them were two men in doctor's uniforms - one with graying hair, and one who looked middle-aged.
For most people, doctors of this age were more reassuring than young ones.
"Marlowe Grey, what are you doing here? Calista, you don't seem very close to the Hill family. Don't tell me you're also here to see my parents?"
Aaron had no good impression of Calista and spoke bluntly.
However, regarding the girl next to Calista - round-faced with dimples when she smiled - his tone suggested familiarity. Though his words sounded dismissive, there wasn't much real dislike in them.
Hearing Aaron's words, Marlowe's eyes immediately reddened. She looked at him with hurt, "Aaron, can't I care about your parents? My parents were pleased when they heard I was coming. And I found good doctors to see your parents. Even if you want to be mad at me, you shouldn't push the doctors away!"
Calista, however, spotted Emily next to Aaron, her gaze poisonous as she looked Emily up and down several times.
If it weren't for the inappropriate setting and Daniel's presence, she would have found a chance to properly humiliate Emily.
But just because she couldn't show it didn't mean Marlowe couldn't.
Calista tugged at Marlowe's sleeve and whispered a reminder in her ear.
"You're focusing on the wrong thing. Don't you see there's a beautiful girl next to Aaron? If you don't work harder, Aaron will belong to someone else."
Calista kept her voice low enough that Emily and the others couldn't hear.
But Emily could read lips a bit, and watching her mouth move, she understood most of what she said.
Before Emily could say anything, she looked up and met Marlowe's eyes, who had just heard Calista's words.
Emily thought: What a cute girl.
Marlowe thought: What a beautiful, radiant girl.
Emily could tell Marlowe liked Aaron. Looking at her appearance, she shouldn't be the same type as Calista.
But hearing Calista's deliberate guidance, Emily guessed that Marlowe was a bit too naive and had been easily manipulated by Calista.
"Who are you? Aaron, who is this beautiful woman? At a time like this, shouldn't you be thinking more about your parents' health? Don't get distracted by other things!"
Marlowe felt too embarrassed to directly ask if Aaron liked Emily, or if he'd forgotten their past agreement - that she was supposed to be Aaron's bride.
Aaron frowned, displeased by Marlowe's accusatory words.
"That's my own business, you don't need to worry about it. As for the doctors you brought, even my grandfather couldn't help. I don't think they'll work either. You should just take them back!"
Aaron now trusted Emily even more. Especially considering Daniel's physical condition - with his wealth and power, if these two doctors were really that good, Daniel would have hired them long ago.
Since they couldn't compare to Emily, there was no need for them to stay.
But Marlowe didn't know Aaron's reasoning. She just felt incredibly hurt.
She had worked so hard for his parents, yet he didn't appreciate it at all.
