Chapter 107: Could He Possibly Like Me
“Mr. Smith, Ms. Johnson is in trouble again.”
York saw the online comments and the extremely harsh criticisms about Emily on social media platforms like Twitter. He brought them to Daniel's attention.
Daniel's eyes turned icy as he read the profanities.
"Get all the info on those who insulted Emily and find out who's behind this."
He didn't delegate the task to York directly, perhaps knowing Emily might prefer handling it herself.
So, when York had collected all the data and identified the instigators, Daniel sent it straight to Emily.
"The Smith Group's legal department is at your service anytime. Need anything else?"
To Emily, Daniel was like a god—always busy and out of reach. But now, he seemed to be spending a lot of time on her issue, which felt like a waste to her.
In the past, she thought it was just her imagination, but now the thought wouldn't leave her mind.
Could he really like her?
For some reason, the idea of him liking her made her heart race, almost as if it would jump out of her chest.
Seeing no response from her, Daniel frowned and spoke again, "Don't feel any burden. I don't want any mishaps while you're treating me."
His words quelled her thoughts. Maybe he really was just helping her for that reason.
But she wasn't exactly a renowned doctor in his eyes, yet he was still willing to put in the effort.
"Mr. Smith, don't worry. I'll make sure to treat you well. I don't need any help for now."
Getting the information on the instigators wasn't hard for her. But since Daniel had shown his willingness to help, she decided to make a few special pills for him later. After detoxifying him, he wouldn't have to worry about such schemes anymore.
She hung up the phone.
The Reyes family called next.
"Mr. Reyes, what's up?"
After taking Byron under her wing, she now addressed Isaac differently.
Isaac felt quite pleased. He had just heard that Byron received two million dollars from Emily. He didn't even question how she got the money; his first thought was that following her had its benefits.
"Emily, tomorrow's Monday. We have a meeting for the collaboration project with the Johnson family. Are you free to attend? It would be a good opportunity to introduce you to them and hand over the project to you."
Isaac wanted to deepen his ties with Emily. This was a chance to do so.
He also wondered if Daniel would give them more good projects knowing Emily was working with the Reyes family.
Emily knew Isaac had his own motives, but as long as it didn't harm her, she didn't mind.
"Sure, what time tomorrow? Is it at the Johnson Group?"
"Yeah, I'll have Byron pick you up tomorrow!"
"No need! I'll drive to the Johnson Villa myself."
After finishing the call, Emily took the evidence and had the security team set up a large screen at the villa's entrance.
Seeing Emily about to leave, Violette hurriedly stopped her. "Emily, are you going out to handle Rhett's matter? No, you can't go. He's determined to cause trouble. If you go out and he latches onto you, what then? You've helped me so much already. I don't want you to get hurt because of us. Let me handle it myself!"
Emily smiled. "He doesn't have that kind of power. Besides, Violette, you've seen what I can do. I can protect myself. And he's slandering my name. I need to handle this, even if it's just for myself. With the security here, there's nothing to worry about!"
With that, Emily started to leave.
Violette hesitated but then grabbed Emily's arm again.
"Let me go with you. Let's end this with him once and for all. If there's any danger, I can help. Please!"
Violette held onto Emily, determined not to let go until she agreed.
Emily couldn't refuse Violette.
"Alright, it would be good for you to see Rhett's true colors and give up on him completely."
"Fine, let's go together."
As Emily and Violette walked towards the entrance, Rhett continued his antics outside, even rallying some onlookers.
Some self-proclaimed "justice warriors" were shouting for Emily to come out and explain herself.
"Where's Emily? Come out already! Does she really think she can get away with this just because she's rich? What does she even look like?"
"Someone just posted her photos online. You can check them out... wait..."
"Strange, all the links to Emily's photos are blocked. She must have paid to have them taken down. I'm curious how powerful the man behind her is."
Initially, there weren't many onlookers since this wasn't a busy area. But some people had a grudge against the rich, and some bloggers loved to capture sensational events. So, the crowd grew.
Seeing more people gather, Rhett was pleased.
"Now you all see my plight. I worked hard to support my family, but Emily's sweet talk deceived my wife, Violette, and broke up my home. Today, I'm risking everything to demand an explanation from Emily."
Rhett played the victim, causing more commotion.
The property management received Emily's call and started setting up the large screen. A security guard stepped forward to speak.
"Alright, everyone, calm down. Ms. Johnson just called and said she'll be out soon to address this properly. But I remind everyone, don't jump to conclusions. Let's see what she has to say first."
With the security guard's words, the noisy crowd quieted down. Some people started to hesitate and whisper among themselves.
"Maybe there's more to this story?"
"Let's wait for Emily. She should be here soon."
Rhett frowned, almost cursing out loud. These fools believed whatever they were told.
He didn't realize that people easily swayed by his words could just as easily be swayed by others.
"Don't let this security guard fool you. He must have been paid off by Emily. Are we poor people not entitled to justice? How is this fair?"
"Oh God, look at my plight! What are you doing? Setting up a screen? You're all in on this!"
Fallon sat on the ground, wailing and pointing at the staff setting up the projector.
At that moment, Emily and Violette arrived.
Hearing Fallon's accusations, Violette's face darkened, her brows furrowing.
"Rhett, Fallon, you're despicable!"
Violette, unable to contain her anger, gritted her teeth and lunged forward to hit them.
