Chapter 149 Chapter 149. The Nightmare
Zoria slowly moved her eyes and stared blankly at the man sitting in front of her. For a moment, she seemed unable to understand where she was or why he was there.

Seeing that she said nothing, Lysander leaned slightly closer and touched her forehead with the back of his hand. Zoria’s body temperature was still normal, with no sign of a fever.

“You didn’t eat anything last night. You must be very hungry now. What do you want to eat?”

Zoria shook her head, her voice hoarse. “I don’t need it.”

Her body was still in a lot of pain. Her whole body felt as if it had just been crushed, and every joint ached badly enough to make even the smallest movement uncomfortable.

A dull pain came from her lower abdomen. Zoria suddenly remembered the nightmare she had just had. The hand resting beside her slowly moved over. Only after her fingers touched the slightly raised part of her abdomen did her tightly furrowed brows gradually loosen.

Lysander clearly saw the movement and immediately said, “Lior is fine. The baby is still safe inside your belly.”

Zoria’s eyelashes trembled. She lowered her eyes and said softly, “Whether the baby is fine or not makes no difference. If I really am infected with it, sooner or later this child will…”

“Don’t talk nonsense.”

Zoria had not even finished speaking when Lysander firmly cut her off.

“You’ll be fine.”

Sometimes, a firm reassurance that left no room for argument could hit the most vulnerable place in someone’s heart even harder. Zoria’s heart trembled, but she did not dare to hope. The greater the hope, the more painful it would be when disappointment came.

There were too many wounds on her body. There was a very high chance that the blood of those people had come into contact with her open wounds, so the risk of being infected with blood poison was high enough that she did not even dare to think about it any further.

“If you don’t eat anything, your body will only feel worse. I already had someone buy porridge. It’s from your favorite shop.” Lysander calmly changed the subject.

But in Zoria’s eyes, the fact that he changed the subject only meant that he was avoiding the truth, unwilling to face the worst possible result. The corners of her lips curved slightly into a faint smile. Her blue eyes glimmered under the light coming through the window, looking as bright as the early morning sun.

Zoria said, “Lysander, go away. Don’t show your face in front of me again.”

From the moment she opened her eyes, she had already noticed that this hospital room was different from the others. It was far too quiet. There was not even the sound of people outside in the hallway. She had probably been moved to the isolation ward because of the risk of blood poison infection.

“I’m not leaving.”

Zoria gave a bitter laugh. “Lysander, I don’t want to owe anyone a favor. Favors are too hard to repay, and I’m afraid I won’t be able to repay yours. I have a feeling that I was infected with blood poison this time. Maybe I won’t live much longer.”

Lysander’s eyes suddenly stung. Everything in front of him slowly blurred together. He did not dare open his mouth, because he was afraid that if he said even one word, all the emotions he had been trying so hard to hold back would immediately fall apart, and he would no longer be able to keep his tears in.

“What I hate most is owing other people. Sometimes I think, I went through so much suffering while I was with Zephyr. Was it because I owed him in my past life? That’s why in this life he held on to me no matter what, forcing me to pay back that entire debt.” By the time she said this, Zoria’s voice had already begun to tremble so badly that it was almost impossible to hear.

“Actually, dying like that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. For me, it could even be a kind of release. But you’re different. You have to live well. You still have your family, your parents, and your career. You haven’t met the person who is truly right for you yet. You haven’t formed a bond or had a life of your own.”

As she said those words, Zoria sounded like an old, tired patient who had already lost all hope for the life ahead of her. There was almost nothing left in her voice that suggested she still wanted to keep living.

Lysander clenched his fists and stubbornly said, “Zoria, I tasted your blood. If you were infected, then I could be infected too. So don’t even think about trying to drive me away.”

Hearing that, Zoria’s heart felt even colder. She really wanted to ask Lysander why he had been so reckless and thoughtless at that time, why he could have done something so dangerous without even considering the consequences.

She could only comfort herself by thinking that the cut on the tip of Lysander’s tongue had been very small. Perhaps the amount of blood that had come into contact with it was not much, so he would not be infected that easily.

Zoria propped herself up with one hand and slowly sat up. Lysander immediately wanted to step forward and help her, but she pushed him away with one hand before he could get any closer.

He froze where he was and watched Zoria hold her stomach with one hand as she slowly leaned back against the headboard.

“I know you’re very worried about me. But blood poison isn’t an ordinary illness. Staying with me like this is too dangerous for you.”

Lysander remained silent. But his attitude was already clear enough. He had absolutely no intention of leaving Zoria.

“Even the fastest test results will take two weeks. Once we have the results, we can talk about all of this then, okay?” Lysander sat down beside the bed again. Ignoring Zoria’s resistance, he directly pulled her into his arms.

“Blood poison isn’t going to infect me that easily.”

It was true that blood poison was mainly spread through bodily fluids and blood. If there were no open wounds on the body, the risk of infection really was not that high. But what Zoria was truly worried about was not only the illness itself. She was afraid that Lysander would suffer because of her.

Right now, he could no longer accept the thought of being separated from her. If one day she really died, if she completely disappeared from this world, what would he do then?
