Chapter 150 Chapter 150. A Chance

Chapter 150 Chapter 150. A Chance
Some relationships had to be cut off as soon as possible. If they kept dragging things out, the two of them would only become more entangled, and it would become even harder for either of them to get away.

Not long after that, the person Lysander had sent out came back with the porridge. He picked up the bowl and carefully fed Zoria one spoonful at a time. Zoria opened her mouth in a dazed and numb state and swallowed the porridge, but the bite on the tip of her tongue suddenly sent another sharp pain through her.

“Does your tongue still hurt?” When he asked that, there was a teasing, suggestive note in Lysander’s voice. “Next time, I’ll definitely be gentler.”

Zoria immediately raised her head, her eyes full of caution. But her ears were not nearly as obedient as she was, and they quickly turned red.

After Zoria finished the porridge, Lysander reached out and gently ran his fingers through her hair before asking, “Do you want to go outside and walk around for a while, or do you want to stay here and rest?”

Zoria noticed the dark bluish circles beneath his eyes, as well as the fine red blood vessels spreading across them. She knew for certain that Lysander had not slept even once since last night.

Zoria said, “Let’s just stay in the room and rest. You don’t have to keep watching me all the time. You should get some sleep too.”

“No. I have to stay here and keep an eye on you every second. What if you wait until I fall asleep and secretly run away? Where am I supposed to go looking for you then?”

“I promise you, I won’t leave.”

Seeing Zoria answer so obediently, Lysander laughed. There was once again a faint, hard-to-describe suggestive tone in his voice. “But I don’t have anywhere to sleep. How about I sleep with you?”

“There isn’t a single wound on my body. If you don’t believe me, look for yourself.” As he said that, Lysander opened both hands and held them out for her to see. When Zoria did not answer, he even started to lift his shirt to prove it to her.

Zoria knew perfectly well that he was deliberately teasing her. But there was nothing funny about this joke to her. Every second, every minute, she remembered clearly that she might have been infected with blood poison.

“All right, all right. I won’t tease you anymore. I’ll just sit here and sleep for a while.” Lysander was indeed extremely sleepy. After an entire night of tension and worry, the moment his body finally relaxed even a little, the exhaustion immediately came over him and spread through his whole body.

There was a fairly tall bedside cabinet in the room, the kind normally used for putting medicine and fruit on. Lysander leaned his back against it, tilted his head to one side, and intended to sit there and make up for some of the sleep he had missed.

Zoria looked at the way he was sitting and knew for sure that there was no way he could sleep well like that.

She reached out and gently patted Lysander on the shoulder. When he opened his sleepy, unfocused eyes, she moved herself slightly to the side and left some space on the bed.

“Get on the bed and sleep.”

Lysander tried his best to hold himself back, but his body still trembled slightly with happiness. He asked again, almost unable to believe what he had just heard, “Really?”

Zoria turned around, giving him her back, and said, “If you don’t want to, then forget it.”

The moment Zoria finished speaking, Lysander immediately took off his shoes and coat and climbed onto the bed. The hospital room suddenly became quieter. In the entire room, there were only two soft, steady breaths, slowly blending together in the silence.

At first, Lysander had truly been exhausted and desperately sleepy, but now he was completely awake and could not fall asleep at all. He felt a little nervous, even though this was not the first time he and Zoria had lain on the same bed.

He stared intently at Zoria’s thin, frail back. After hesitating for a while, Lysander carefully moved a little closer, as if testing her reaction, then slowly wrapped his arms around her from behind.

Zoria’s body immediately stiffened, and even her breathing became slower. It took her quite a while to calm herself down before she finally gave him a quiet warning, “If you move again, I’ll kick you off the bed.”

Lysander was secretly delighted that she had not really rejected him. Satisfied, he tightened his arms around her, pulling Zoria closer against his chest, while at the same time taking the hand she had placed over her stomach and holding it gently in his own.

“Zoria, if you’re not infected with blood poison, could you give me a chance?”

No matter how slow Zoria was to understand, she still knew what kind of “chance” Lysander was talking about. A bitter feeling rose in her heart. She truly could not understand how Lysander could possibly have fallen for her in the first place.

She had already been divorced, she was carrying the child of her ex-husband in her womb, and her health was not good either. She could not think of a single thing about herself that would make someone want to love her, much less stubbornly stay by her side.

“Then you have to promise me one thing.”

“What is it?”

Zoria’s voice trembled as she said, “If I really am infected with the disease, after I die, put my ashes in a sugar jar, sprinkle some sugar over them, and then bury them. My life in this lifetime has been too painful. I only hope that in my next life, I can live a little more sweetly.”

Zoria gently clenched her teeth, forcing herself to swallow her tears before reluctantly putting a smile on her face.

The deep sadness coming from her slowly spread out and quickly filled the entire hospital room. The atmosphere became so heavy and oppressive that it almost made everyone unable to breathe.

The test results had clearly not been confirmed yet, but somehow, Zoria already seemed to have seen the worst ending waiting for her somewhere ahead.

Lysander buried his face against the side of her neck. His voice was hoarse, carrying all the pain he had been trying so hard to keep buried inside.

“Don’t think that far ahead.”

In the past, it was precisely because she had not thought that far ahead, because she had only believed that being bonded to Zephyr would be enough, that everything had ended up becoming such a miserable mess today.
