Chapter 147 Chapter 147. No One Escapes
But before Zoria was taken into the emergency room, he refused to leave her side even for half a step.
After some time had passed, one of the doctors finally walked out of the emergency room.
“Mr. Valerius, the baby inside her...”
Lysander’s expression immediately became dark and heavy.
“You must save the baby.”
Zoria truly wanted this child.
Since keeping the child was what she wanted, Lysander would never allow anything to happen to the baby.
The doctor’s expression became worried.
Zoria’s current condition was extremely serious. Her placenta was unstable, her body had been injured in many places, and she had already lost far too much blood. In addition to all of that, there was still a risk that she had been exposed to Blood Poison.
If the pathogen really had entered Zoria’s body, it could travel through her bloodstream and cross the placenta.
Even if the doctors did everything they could and managed to save the fetus, they still could not guarantee that the baby would remain completely unaffected.
Lysander was in no mood to care about the hesitation on the doctor’s face.
He said coldly, “What you need to do right now is save both the mother and the child. I want both of them to stay alive. Do you understand me clearly?”
Under the terrifying pressure coming from an Alpha, the doctor’s forehead immediately became covered in cold sweat. Even his heartbeat grew unsteady and chaotic.
“I’ll do my best...”
The doctor looked at Lysander’s dark and gloomy expression. He immediately realized that such an answer would not satisfy the man in front of him, so he hurriedly changed what he had said.
“I will use every possible method to keep both the mother and the child safe.”
After saying that, the doctor immediately turned around and hurried back into the emergency room.
Lysander stood beside a window in the hospital corridor.
The yellow-orange light stretched the shadow of his tall body far across the floor. Under that dim light, he looked even more lonely, heavy, and dark than before.
Half an hour later, the first laboratory report was finally brought to him.
The results showed that the Blood Poison pathogen was indeed present in the samples of dried blood collected from Zoria’s skin and clothes.
In other words, at least one of the men who had injured her was carrying Blood Poison inside his body.
There were many open wounds on Zoria’s body. The other man’s blood had also come into direct contact with those wounds, which meant the risk of her becoming infected was very high.
However, the current report could only confirm that the pathogen existed in the blood found on Zoria’s body and clothes.
To find out whether Blood Poison had truly entered Zoria’s own bloodstream, the doctors would still need to keep her under observation and perform many more tests.
Blood Poison had a hidden period during which ordinary testing methods could hardly detect its presence.
The observation period could last from two weeks to as long as three months. Only if all the results were still negative after three months could most of the risk of infection finally be ruled out.
During that entire period, Zoria would still have to take the post-exposure medicine on time. She would also need to undergo regular examinations so the doctors could closely monitor the condition of the baby inside her.
Lysander remained beside the window and read the report again and again.
He read every line on the page more than ten times, as though the words might somehow change if he looked at them long enough.
It was still snowing outside.
Cold wind slipped through the narrow gap in the window. It cut across Lysander’s face like several sharp blades.
In the end, Lysander tore the report in his hands into small pieces and threw all of them into the trash.
It was not only his body that felt cold.
His heart felt even colder.
Lysander lowered his head and lit another cigarette.
He was not usually addicted to smoking. But from the moment he had started searching for Zoria until now, he had already smoked almost two full packs.
He kept smoking one cigarette after another like someone with a serious addiction, because the moment he stopped, the fear inside his heart would immediately rise up and drown him.
His fingertips were ice-cold. Even while holding the cigarette between his fingers, his hand continued to tremble without stopping.
Not long afterward, Mike found the hospital and hurried over.
“Alpha, we’ve caught the man.”
Lysander took a deep drag from the cigarette, then slowly breathed out the smoke.
“Who is he? Have you found out everything about him?”
Mike immediately answered, “His name is Michael. He’s a thug from Cygnus City. He was the one who ordered his men to kidnap Miss Zoria. After that, he found those men infected with Blood Poison and sent them there.”
Michael...
Lysander’s gaze immediately turned cold.
He held the cigarette between his lips and took several deep drags, trying to force himself to remain calm.
“Did you find anything on him?”
Mike took out a mobile phone and handed it to Lysander.
Lysander accepted the phone and opened the message history. After looking through it for a while, he found the messages between Michael and Faye, just as he had expected.
A few months ago, when Lysander had sent someone to investigate Faye, he had already discovered that she and Michael shared a suspicious relationship.
At that time, Lysander had let Faye go once.
He had never expected that not only would she refuse to stop, but she would even join hands with Michael to harm Zoria. She had wanted to drive Zoria straight to her death.
Mike asked in a low voice, “Alpha, what should we do with Michael?”
“Let him go.”
Mike froze in surprise, but he did not dare ask Lysander to repeat himself.
Lysander threw the cigarette onto the floor and crushed it beneath his shoe. His bright golden eyes were so cold that not a trace of emotion remained in them.
“Over the next few days, investigate Zephyr and Faye carefully. I want everything about them looked into.”
He slowly tightened his hand into a fist.
“Whatever they did to Zoria, I’ll do exactly the same thing to them.”
He would make them repay every debt they owed Zoria.
Not one of them would be allowed to escape.
