Chapter 146 Chapter 146. Shared Blood
Zoria’s body went stiff for a brief moment. Then she began struggling violently in his arms. Her eyes, which were already red, became even redder.

Lysander held her tightly against him. He placed one hand behind her thin and weak back, refusing to let her pull away from him.

He bit down on the tip of his own tongue until it bled. Then he lightly bit Zoria’s lips, breaking the skin and making them bleed as well.

Their blood mixed together inside the kiss.

Lysander knew perfectly well that Zoria’s blood might already carry the Blood Poison pathogen. But he still did not stop, not until the strong metallic taste of blood spread through both of their mouths.

Only then did he finally release her.

Zoria’s entire body trembled.

She stared at Lysander, her eyes filled with shock and disbelief.

“Have you lost your mind?”

Zoria was so angry that her tears would not stop pouring down her face.

“Do you know there’s a very good chance that I’ve already been exposed to Blood Poison?”

“I know.”

Lysander’s voice was very hoarse, but the tenderness in it still could not be hidden.

“Then do you know how frightening Blood Poison is? It spreads through blood! Once the pathogen enters someone’s body, it can never be completely removed. If medicine isn’t used to suppress it, it can take a person’s life!”

Lysander gave another calm smile, as though everything she had just said had nothing to do with him.

“I know that too.”

He looked directly into Zoria’s eyes.

“If you really have been infected, then I’ve been exposed to it just like you now.”

Zoria stared at him in a daze.

She could not understand why Lysander was still able to act so calm at a time like this.

“You haven’t found a mate yet, and you still don’t have an heir. There are so many roads you haven’t walked and so many things you haven’t done. You have to stay alive.”

“Zoria, so do you.”

Zoria had always believed that in everyone else’s eyes, someone like her would be better off dead than alive.

There had been far too much pain in her life. It seemed that from the moment she was born, she had never been given the right to choose how she wanted to live.

But somewhere deep inside her heart, there was still a small desire to keep living. That desire was tiny and weak, but it had always remained inside her.

Lysander was like winter sunlight shining into her dark world. He had made the small candle inside her heart, which had nearly gone out, burn brightly again.

It was Lysander who had made her believe that there really was someone in this world who wanted to protect her.

He had also made her believe that she could be saved from Zephyr’s hands, that she could escape all those years of being controlled and hurt by him.

Zoria realized that she could no longer scold Lysander the way she had before.

The better he treated her, the more she felt that she could not accept all the feelings he was giving her.

No matter what Lysander had done to her in the past, right now he truly wanted to treat her well.

But when she faced that kind of sincerity, Zoria found herself wishing that he were still as cold and hateful as he had been in the beginning. At least then, she would not have to be afraid that she owed him far too much.

Zoria slowly closed her eyes.

Lysander thought she had lost consciousness. But a moment later, she spoke again in a weak voice.

“Tell me, what do you gain from doing all of this?”

Her voice carried deep exhaustion and sadness. She sounded as though she had aged many years in just one night.

The inside of the vehicle was already filled with the strong smell of blood.

Zoria was still bleeding without stopping. Blood ran down her legs and soaked through Lysander’s pants.

At first, the blood was still warm and sticky. But after only a short while, the coldness spreading through Zoria’s body caused the bloodstains to quickly lose their warmth.

The heavy metallic smell filled the air, making Lysander’s heart feel heavier with every passing moment.

He tried to hold back the fear inside him. Then he gave a faint smile and answered, “I’m doing it so you’ll be moved by me and agree to become my mate.”

Zoria seemed to have already lost consciousness.

Lysander lowered his eyes and looked at the pale face resting quietly in his arms. His throat tightened painfully, and for a long time, he could not force a single sound out of his mouth.

“You’re going to be all right.”

He held her even tighter and kept repeating those words to her.

“The baby will be all right too.”

Lysander repeated the same two sentences over and over again. It was as though if he continued saying them, if he continued praying hard enough, Zoria and the baby inside her really would be safe.

At the hospital.

As soon as the doctors learned that Zoria might have been exposed to Blood Poison, they immediately took her into the exposure treatment room. They began cleaning all the wounds on her body and carried out emergency measures to prevent infection.

Lysander followed her into the room.

He stood nearby and watched the doctors and nurses put on protective gloves. Then they carefully cleaned every wound on Zoria’s body, one after another.

One of the medical workers collected samples of the dried blood still stuck to Zoria’s skin and clothes. As soon as the samples had been collected, they were taken straight to the laboratory for testing.

There was an extremely deep wound in the palm of Zoria’s hand. The cut had almost reached the bone, and the skin and flesh around it had been badly torn open.

Lysander stood a short distance away. He looked at the wound only once before he could no longer bear to see it. He immediately turned his face in another direction.

The wolf inside his body kept roaring in pain and anger. It wanted to come out and tear apart every person who had caused those injuries.

But in this place, there was nothing Lysander could do except stand there and wait.

After all the wounds had been cleaned and treated, the doctor immediately injected Zoria with a dose of medicine meant to prevent infection after exposure to Blood Poison.

This kind of medicine was only effective before the pathogen had fully taken root inside the body. The sooner the medicine was given after exposure, the greater the chance that it could stop the person from becoming infected.

However, it still could not offer a complete guarantee that the exposed person would not develop the disease.

Lysander was also told to take preventive medicine because he had come into direct contact with Zoria’s blood through the open wound inside his mouth.
