Chapter 20 She’s Back
The ceremony was beautiful not so long that it was boring, Elizabeth thought. After the ceremony the bridal party, bride, and groom spent hours taking pictures before the reception.

Elizabeth was so happy when they were finished taking pictures, because she could not wait to see Colton. She could not believe how much she liked Colton and that she was still so excited to see him.

They left the church went to the banquet hall where the reception was to take place. Before going in they had to take a few more pictures. Afterward the bridal party went into a receiving line and greeted all the guests. A man Elizabeth never met stopped at her and lingered he was talking to her but saying nothing, before he left he lifted her hand and kissed it.

When Colton came up to Elizabeth he asked “Who was that?”

Knowing exactly who he was talking about through an uncomfortable laugh she told him “I have no idea.”

Davina overheard them and interjected “That is my cousin, he is a creep but harmless. Although he will try to sleep with you”

Elizabeth said wearily “OK.”

Colton saw Elizabeth’s discomfort so he kissed her long and hard to make sure that Davina’s cousin would see. Colton then said “Don’t worry I am here for you.”

“Thank you.” Elizabeth said.

Colton said Congratulations to Davina and Darren, and then sat down at his table. The receiving line finished greeting the guests they sat down at the head table. It was raised so that they were the centre of attention in the room.

They got served their appetizers, main course, and dessert, and then finally it was time to party. Elizabeth was relieved because she could now find Colton and sit with him at his table. They danced, talked and laughed. Elizabeth assumed that Davina’s cousin saw her with Colton and knew that she was not available because she did not see him again that night.

Late in the night Davina came over to them and sat down to talk with them.

“Hey.” Davina said.

“Hey.” Colton replied. “Congratulations again.”

“Oh yea I never said Congratulations, sorry. Congratulations I am so happy for you two.” Elizabeth added.

“Thank you.” Davina replied to both of them. She turned to Colton “How are you feeling?”

“A little better, thanks.” Colton answered.

“But not entirely like Elizabeth. Thank you for coming even though you are sick you did not have to do that for us.” Davina remarked.

“Well it was actually selfish me coming here, I wanted to see Elizabeth and the only way was to come here.” Colton commented.

“Aww, I should probably be offended but that is sweet.” Davina opined.

“I have to go to the bathroom.” Elizabeth interjected.

She actually had to go for a while but she did not want to leave Colton alone. Since Davina was there to sit with him she saw it as a perfect opportunity to go.

Elizabeth left for the bathroom, and Davina and Colton sat there in silence.

“This is awkward” Colton intervened.

“Yea it is. Why? We were fine talking to each other when Elizabeth was here” Davina asked.

“Maybe it is because this is only the second time we have ever met and only the first time we have been alone.” Colton offered.

“Yea maybe that is it. So how are you and Elizabeth doing?” asked Davina trying to find something to talk about?

“We are good, never had a fight even.” Colton answered.

“Wow really.” Davina expressed.

“Yea why are you so surprised?” Colton asked.

“Well you know.” Davina replied.

“No I don’t, that’s why I asked.” Colton responded slowly.

“Oh just cause, you know she has some attitude sometimes. I mean I love her dearly but she can be” Davina paused “Prickly. Although I am really not one to talk, got some attitude myself.”

“Oh yea I guess she can be opinionated but I kind of like that about her.” Colton agreed.

“Yea that’s good, and she is doing good today. Probably because you are here.” Davina said.

Colton was confused “Why wouldn’t she be doing good today? Oh you mean because she is sick or was sick.”

“No, you know because she was supposed to get married but then her fiancé cheated on her then felt guilty killed his mistress, then himself. Now she is at a wedding that is not hers and she is.” Davina stopped when she saw the shocked expression on Colton’s face. “Oh she didn’t tell you.”

“She told me she used to be engaged but she told me it didn’t work out.” Colton explained.

“Well it didn’t, really.” Davina offered as an excuse as she shrugged her shoulder.

“Yea it really didn’t.” Colton said.

“I am sorry I thought you knew. I hope I did not just cause your first fight.” Davina pleaded.

“Oh no you didn’t, don’t worry, I am just surprised she left that out. Maybe it bothers her too much.” Colton reassured her and himself.

“Maybe.” Davina replied.

Elizabeth came back and sat down in her seat, they both looked at her making her feel weird. She asked “What?”

“Why didn’t you tell me your fiancé killed himself?” Colton asked.

“I’m going to go.” Davina said, as Elizabeth gave her a knowing look.

Alone at the table Elizabeth explained to Colton “I did not want to tell you.”

“I figured that out. Why didn’t you want to tell me?” Colton asked.

“I don’t know it is kind of embarrassing that the man I was planning to spend my life with killed himself.” Elizabeth answered. “I am sorry I should have told you.”

“It’s OK, I get it is probably painful to think about never mind talk about.” Colton responded sympathetically “I just wish I knew.”

“Yea I know I am so sorry. If I could go back in time and tell you I would. You know now so no secrets.” Elizabeth declared.

“Yea.” Colton got up and hugged her tightly sympathetically.

They danced for a couple of songs then went back to Colton’s place; it was the first time Elizabeth had been in Colton’s home. He finally decided to bring her there because he wanted everything between them to be open and honest.

Elizabeth had been on the outside but it was her first time going inside. She was surprised the decor was very sophisticated and it was very clean. There were three bedrooms, two bathrooms, he had beautiful paintings and artworks hanging on his walls, as well his furniture all matched perfectly.

The back yard was well maintained the grass was very green, he had a beautiful patio with a dream barbecue set, along with a pool and a hot tub.

In the backyard Elizabeth asked “Can we go into the hot tub?”

“You do not have a bathing suit.” Colton pointed out.

“Don’t need one.” Elizabeth teased.

Colton got wine from inside then the two of them got into the hot tub. It was very relaxing for them both. They made love in the tub, Elizabeth ended up spending the weekend there.

For the next few months Elizabeth started to stay at Colton’s much more then at her own place. She liked it much more and loved that Colton was always there. It was not long before she had more of her stuff there than at her own place.

They were eating dinner one night when Colton said “So I was thinking.”

“Yea?” Elizabeth asked.

“Well I was just thinking that you should probably put your flat up for sale, or rent it out to someone.” Colton answered.

Elizabeth looked astonished “I just mean since you are practically living here anyway, and it just stays empty.”

“Am I here too much? Do you want me to stay home more?” Elizabeth asked worried that this was Colton’s way of kicking her out nicely.

“No I want you to stay here. All the time.” Colton clarified.

Elizabeth was surprised “Oh! Wow. You want me to move in with you?”

“Yea, you basically live here already. This will just make it official. And you can stop going back and forth just for clothes.” answered Colton.

“Yes. I will live with you. I would love to live with you” Elizabeth answered.

“Great.” Colton replied.

Elizabeth thought about it for a second as she realized aloud “I won’t even have to move anything.”

“I know” Colton commented.

His phone vibrated, he checked it. As he was reading it he said to Elizabeth “Oh shoot I have to go.”

“Really why? “asked Elizabeth.

“We just got a lead on the serial killer case.” Colton explained.

“Really?” Elizabeth asked confused she had not been active in that area of her life in months.

“Yea apparently there is somebody who witnessed something they think might have to do with a guy we found in a motel.” Colton told Elizabeth.

Elizabeth’s heart started to beat really fast; she was really worried now that she was going to get caught. Elizabeth was trying really hard to hide her fear from Colton so he would not clue in. Colton walked to her and kissed her bye, he said sorry for leaving her with everything to clean up.

Elizabeth was so worried that once Colton was gone, she nervously cleaned all of the dinner mess then she cleaned the rest of the house.

At the precinct Colton met with the man who claimed to be a witness to suspicious behaviour that had happened the same night Ross from the motel was killed. Colton brought him into his office so that he could interview him.

“Take a seat.” Colton offered.

He took a seat. “So let’s just start with your name” Colton decided.

“OK my name is Steven Cryole.” he answered.

“Alright, so why don’t you tell me what you saw?” Colton asked.

“OK well it actually started the night before, I saw the guy at the bar with his wife, and he was checking out some girl. The girl walked up to him then walked out. I went to the bar the next day I saw a girl standing outside the bar and she got in the guy’s car. That’s it I know.” Steven replied.

“Alright, so it was the same woman from both nights?” Colton questioned him.

“I think so.” Steven answered.

“You don’t know?” asked Colton.

“I was a little intoxicated, and I only saw the back of her head the second time, but it was the same sort of figure for sure. That makes me think that it was the exact same woman” he responded.

“Alright.” Colton answered covering frustration.

Colton felt as though it was pointless to talk to Steven however he took down his statement and put it in the file. He thanked him for his time and co-operation and saw him to the door.

Elizabeth was in bed when he got home, he tried to slip in without waking her up. However she had been up and worried all night long.

When he slipped into the bed she asked nervously “So how did it go?”

Colton defeated answered “He saw the shape of a woman.”

“Oh. Well it is good that you narrowed it down.” Elizabeth lied.

“Yea we narrowed it down to more than half the world.” Colton replied. “Sorry for waking you.” Colton leaned over and kissed her, then for the first time ever whispered to her “I love you.”

Elizabeth grinned from ear to ear and whispered back “I love you too.”

Colton got on top of Elizabeth and kissed her. Elizabeth took off his shirt and pants as quickly as she could, she could not wait to consummate their love. Colton tore off Elizabeth’s pyjamas, and entered into Elizabeth with vigour.

“What was I working out?” Colton asked confused.

“I don’t know. I just know that you were a little more rough, I guess than normal.” Elizabeth replied.

“Oh I am sorry did I hurt you?” Colton asked worried.

“Oh God no, it was awesome I loved it. Thank you.” Elizabeth said.

Colton laughed “Your welcome.”

“Sorry I was just mentioning it because I want you to know I am here for you to talk to. You know if you want.” Elizabeth observed.

“I know you are, but you cannot help me with this.” responded Colton.

“Help you with what?” Elizabeth asked.

Colton answered “I am just frustrated with this case I am worried it will turn into a cold case. The one lead we had was almost nothing. I guess I accidentally took out my frustrations out on you.”

Elizabeth was hoping Colton was right and that the case would become cold, but she wanted to be consoling to Colton. So she caressed his cheek and reassured him “Don’t worry honey, you’ll figure it out. You are actually quite brilliant.”

“Thank God I do not try to be humble because you would not let me. I love you.” Colton replied.

“Oh wow I really love hearing you say that to me. I love you too.” Elizabeth responded.
