Chapter 21 Elizabeth moves in and gets Busted

Chapter 21 Elizabeth moves in and gets Busted
Elizabeth had sold her flat and moved into Colton’s place. It was a couple days before Elizabeth’s and Colton’s one year anniversary, Elizabeth had decided to celebrate by cooking dinner for them both. She brought Davina out with her to help her shop for the food for her special dinner, and to get a present for Colton.

Elizabeth was going to make him his favourite meal, lasagne with cheesy garlic bread. She was so happy she had taken those cooking classes and learned how to cook. She had thought of making her favourite meal but she decided that chicken wings were not romantic enough.

Elizabeth picked Davina up from her place, she and Darren had just moved into their new house. Davina had, had renovations done and it had taken many months to finish the house. That was why it had taken so long for them to finally move in there.

Elizabeth went to the door, and rang the door bell; Darren answered and told her to come inside to wait as Davina was still getting ready. Elizabeth went inside she looked around the very grand entrance.

She told Darren that the house was beautiful, and asked for a tour of their new place. Darren showed her around. Davina was done getting ready when Darren had finished giving Elizabeth the house tour.

Davina came down stairs, she hugged Elizabeth hi, then kissed Darren bye. Davina and Elizabeth left. They went to the mall, Elizabeth searched every store but she could not find something to get for Colton.

After the twentieth store Davina said frustrated “Can you just pick something, holy crap?”

“I can’t find anything that is perfect for him.” Elizabeth replied.

“OK well what have you bought him before?” Davina asked.

“I have never bought him anything for an anniversary just DVD’s, music, clothes, sometimes candy. What do I get him for our first anniversary that tells him how much I love him?” Elizabeth asked.

“I am sure he doesn’t care what you get him.” Davina said.

“I want him to care though.” Elizabeth answered. Just then she thought about a great gift “Oh I know what to get him, but we got to leave the mall.”

Davina dropped her head feeling defeated “OK. Should we go to the grocery store first?”

“Yes.” Elizabeth said matter-of-factly.

They stopped at the grocery store picked up everything Elizabeth would need to make the anniversary dinner that she had planned.

They finally left the mall and Elizabeth drove to a car dealership. Where she looked around found the truck Colton had been telling her about for almost their whole relationship. She worked out a deal with the dealer and arranged to pick it up the morning of her anniversary. She wanted to drive it to their place early so that she could surprise Colton with it.

Davina was shocked that she bought something so extravagant for Colton but was happy to see that her friend was so happy. Davina thought that Elizabeth would never see her happy again.

Elizabeth dropped Davina off at home afterwards. She then went home to put the groceries away.

Now that Davina was in her new home, she was excited to show it off. So she invited Elizabeth and Colton over for dinner. Elizabeth called Colton at work and asked if he wanted to go for dinner. He agreed to it. When he got home he showered then Elizabeth drove them over to Davina’s place.

The four of them had a great time together. Everyone was drinking and having a great time Elizabeth opted to not drink, because she had to drive home. After many laughs and stories, Elizabeth and Colton went home.

Elizabeth was excited all week long she could not wait for Friday. She was disheartened when she learned that Colton had to go into work that day. Elizabeth had booked that day off. After a long week at work, with one demand after another Elizabeth was excited to have Friday off.

Finally Friday came, Elizabeth got up early to eat breakfast with Colton, and saw him off to work. Elizabeth got to work right away getting the house ready for their anniversary dinner. She worked non-stop cleaning and decorating the dining room. She decorated the table with an elegant table cloth, she put a bunch of candles around the room where she thought they would look best, she had bought expensive China for the evening and she set the table with them.

She took out the flower petals she had bought; she wanted to add some colour to the room so she got many different kinds of flower petals. She took the vibrant red, orange, blue, and yellow petals and scattered them across the floor.

She looked at her phone to check the time it was eleven o’clock, she had to leave to get the truck for Colton. She decided she would make the lasagne and garlic bread the second she got back home.

At the precinct Colton was working on one of his cases, when a fellow police officer came into his office and interrupted him. She tapped on the door, it was open but she was trying to get his attention. Colton looked up “Hey, Rodrimez.”

“Hey, those security DVD’s from the Lucky Loop are here.” She held the DVD’s up to show him.

“Oh great.” Colton responded, as he got up and retrieved the DVD’s from her hand. “Thanks.”

“No problem.” She replied, and then she went back to her own desk.

Colton closed his door and put the first DVD in his computer. This DVD was from the entrance of the bar. He was watching for about an hour before he saw anything. An hour and fifteen minutes in he saw a charger that looked just like Elizabeth’s, pull into the parking lot.

Colton watched the car closely, and he saw when the driver came out that it was Elizabeth. At first his heart stopped, but then he thought to himself ‘It does not mean anything at all that Elizabeth happened to go to the same bar as the victim.’

He put in the DVD that showed the view from inside the bar. He saw the man who had come in to give a statement sitting at the end of the bar. Then he saw Elizabeth come in and go up to the bar, she was looking around as if she was looking for something, or someone.

“Oh my God.” he said aloud to himself, as he watched her write down a number and give it to the victim. Everything that Steven had said had happened did, and it had happened with Elizabeth.

He quickly put in the next DVD showing the entrance of the bar the next night, the same night Elizabeth had cancelled dinner plans with him claiming she was sick. He saw a cab pull up; he was hoping that he would not see Elizabeth coming out. He was disappointed when he saw that it was in fact Elizabeth getting out of the cab.

Colton continued watching but he didn’t want to. The victim pulled up in front of Elizabeth, as Colton was watching he was mouthing ‘no’ over and over again. He was hoping it would somehow stop Elizabeth from getting into the car. It did not, he saw Elizabeth get into the car and be driven away by the victim.

Colton sat there in his seat, still, in disbelief just staring at his computer screen. After seeing that he pieced it all together in his mind. It was Elizabeth it had always been Elizabeth, he realized that she killed her fiancé, she killed her dad, and she killed all these other people.

Deep in thought Colton was frightened by his captain knocking on his door. He quickly looked up at the door and remembered that he could not see who was at the door. He took the DVD out of the computer, and added it to the rest of the DVD’s. He then took the DVD’s and put them in his bottom drawer and locked it.

Then he yelled out “Come in.”

His Captain came in and she asked “Hey did you watch those DVD’s? Did they give you any new information?”

“No I have not watched them yet, Captain.” Colton answered, not knowing what else to say.

“Alright let me know when you do.” his Captain told him, and then she left.

He quickly grabbed all he could on the case, and then he got whatever information he could find on Elizabeth’s fiancé and her dad.

He went through all the information he had it unfortunately only confirmed all of his suspicions, that Elizabeth had killed them all. He did not know what to feel he was scared that he was sleeping with a serial killer for the past year and he had no idea. At the same time he knew she would never hurt him, and that he loved her.

He did not know what to do, he gathered up all the information he had, put it into a file, then he put it away somewhere he thought was safe. He put it in the cold cases filing cabinet so that he could access it at any time that he needed it. He believed it was safe there as it was rare for anyone to go through those files. He figured this way he could not be accused of tampering with evidence.

Colton walked rapidly through the precinct into his car; he just started driving without knowing where exactly he was going. He just a feeling that he needed to go somewhere. Before he realized where he was going he was in front of Davina’s house.

He stopped the car, looked at the house and took a deep breath. He turned the car off then slowly walked up to Davina’s door. He tapped lightly on the door; luckily Davina was by the door and heard it.

Davina opened the door, she saw Colton standing there, and his face was drawn and exhausted. She was surprised to see him there.

“Hey.” Davina said.

“Hey.” Colton answered exasperated.

“What’s wrong?” Davina asked as she led him inside.

Colton felt like his whole body was weak and numb as he tried to say the words out loud.

“Oh yea Happy Anniversary.” Davina interjected.

Colton replied shakily as he remembered that it was his and Elizabeth’s one year anniversary “Thank you.”

“OK seriously what is wrong?” Davina asked.

“Elizabeth is a murderer.” he blurted out, thinking it would be easier just to say it. Then remembering about Darren he asked “Where is Darren?”

“He is out with his friends.” Davina responded, then giggled thinking it was a joke “And what do you mean Elizabeth is a murderer?”

“It’s not a joke. She is the person who has been killing people who cheat” Colton explained seriously.

Davina laughed “No she is not.”

“Yes she is I saw her with one of the victims on a security tape.” Colton confessed.

“Elizabeth is not a murderer.” Davina exclaimed.

“Yes she is.” Colton reaffirmed.

“So what she moved here then just decided to start killing people? asked Davina.

Colton replied “No, it started in your home town with her fiancé Keith, she caught them and she killed them. She moved here but made a stop on her way and killed her dad. Got here took a year or so off then started killing again. I think she stopped when she and I got together, I guess the last one was an itch to scratch or something.”

“No.” Davina refused to believe it.

“They said it was a shot taken from an inexperienced gun man, but the gun was in his name. It doesn’t make sense it would have that effect if someone used their left hand when they are right handed. Elizabeth is right handed; she used her left hand to shoot him to make it look like a murder suicide.” Colton was saying out loud what he had just found out, to himself more than to Davina.

“Oh my God!” Davina started to cry. “Why are you here telling me this?”

“She is a murderer and she has to go to jail.” Colton continued talking aloud to himself.

Davina was getting angry now “Can you just talk directly to me.” she snapped.

“I cannot talk to you directly; I cannot be implicated in anything.” Colton replied.

“What are you talking about?” Davina asked.

“Elizabeth has to be arrested for the crimes she committed here. Especially since she is right here to be arrested.” Colton hinted to her.

“Oh.” Davina expressed realization.

With that Colton turned around and went back to his car. He drove around for a few hours making sure people could spot him while he was out. This was important in case anyone asked about his whereabouts or alibis.

Elizabeth was driving Colton’s new truck into the driveway when she got a call from Davina, asking her to come over. She did not want to go but Davina said that it was urgent so, before she left she parked the truck and put a big red bow on it.

Then she got in her car and drove over to Davina’s place. She rang the doorbell, Davina answered the door immediately.

“Hey.” Elizabeth greeted her.

Davina pulled her into her house without saying a word.

“What are you doing?” Elizabeth asked.

Davina stayed silent until she brought Elizabeth into the living room, there was packed luggage there. Elizabeth saw it and thought that Davina was leaving Darren.

“Oh my God!” she exclaimed. “What happened?”

“You have to leave; I packed some things for you. I booked a plane ticket for you. When you get the airport you have to change the destination so I do not know where you are, I booked it under an alias name.” Davina told her.

“What are you talking about?” Elizabeth asked confused.

Davina stopped and looked right at her, she was trying to see if there was something different in Elizabeth.

She held her hand then explained “Colton was here, he said he saw some security footage of you with one of the guys that ended up dead. He did some more digging, and found out everything. It is because of that you have to leave; you have to get out of the country get far away. And don’t let either of us know where”

Elizabeth was so calm she surprised herself “Oh my God, you are the best friend ever. Thank you so much for this, but I am not going anywhere.”

“You have to. If you stay you’ll go to prison for the rest of your life.” Davina replied.

“Where I belong.” Elizabeth retorted.

“I don’t care if you belong in prison I want you to be free somewhere, not caged like an animal.” Davina stated.

“I am an animal. I killed at least a hundred people. I’m sorry I didn’t tell you.” Elizabeth said.

Davina responded “It’s OK I am happy you kept this a secret.”

Elizabeth said “I have stopped by the way.”

“Stopped what.” Davina asked unsure of what Elizabeth was talking about.

“Killing.” Elizabeth answered “I know it does not bring those that I took, back from the dead, nor does it make up for it.”

“OK.” Davina answered shakily.

“Where is Darren?” Elizabeth asked abruptly realizing he was not there.

“I asked him to stay out later with his friends so we could have some girl time, I didn’t want him to have anything to do with this.” Davina replied.

Elizabeth nodded “Good idea.” She then hugged Davina so tightly, Davina could almost not breathe. “Thank you for being the best friend I could ever have, I love you.”

“You’re not dying.” Davina said.

“Do not keep me in your life, for your own sake.” Elizabeth responded.

“You will always be in my life.” Davina informed Elizabeth.

Elizabeth smiled and said “OK.” She then turned around and walked toward the door.

Davina asked “Where are you going?”

Elizabeth kept walking forward without looking back and said softly “Home.”

Elizabeth walked out the door and straight to her car. The whole time she was thinking she would never allow Davina, to allow Elizabeth, to bring her down. For Elizabeth she knew that was the last time she would see Davina.
