Chapter 19 Davina gets married
Chapter 19 Davina gets married
Colton and Elizabeth had been dating for a few months; they decided to go to the restaurant where they had their first date. It was a sort of celebration for their three month anniversary. They were having a conversation and Elizabeth asked “How is work?”
“It’s good. I am having a little trouble though because there appears to be no more killings. We have not seen any activity in months now. Which is good for, you know, people living but it just leaves no clues for us. The trail has essentially run cold. ” answered Colton.
“Oh no, I am sorry to hear that.” Elizabeth lied.
“Yea thanks.” Colton shrugged his shoulders then added” So how is your work?”
“Amazing, I am loving it so much. There is so much less to do now though since I just design, but there is a lot more job security, I like that.” Elizabeth replied.
“Yea that is good. Are you ready to go?” Colton asked.
“Yea.” Elizabeth answered.
They paid the bill Elizabeth drove Colton home, dropped him off and left. Colton had to take a course for his job, it started early in the morning, so Elizabeth decided to go home as to not keep him up late.
On her drive back home she thought about how Colton told her that there had been no killings in a few months. She started worrying that he would realize that they had been dating for a few months too, and he might put it together.
Elizabeth was in front of her building, but decided instead of turning she would keep driving. She drove around for a little bit, she found a bar called Lucky Loop; she saw that there was a lot of people there. She pulled into a parking spot and went into the bar.
Elizabeth was not feeling it at all, she did not want to be at the bar seeking out someone to kill. She knew that she had to though. Her heart felt heavy as she looked around, finally she saw someone.
She saw a man with a woman, who based on the rings on their ring fingers, was his wife. She saw him eye her, and knew that he wanted to have sex with her. She grabbed a piece of paper and wrote her burner phone number down. She folded it really tiny and walked nonchalantly past him and covertly handed him the number so that no one would notice.
He took it she walked away, and left the bar. Elizabeth went home from there, she waited for hours for him to call but the phone never rang. Finally she got tired of waiting and she went to bed.
She was awoken in the middle of the night by a phone ringing. She had left the phone in the living room. As she was just waking up she was disoriented and completely forgot what she was doing.
The ringing was relentless, so Elizabeth forced herself to get up; she wandered around the flat following the sound. Finally she found it in the living room.
“Hello.” Elizabeth answered groggily.
“Hey did I wake you up?” the man on the other end answered.
“Uh yea, I am sorry who is this?” Elizabeth asked.
“I am the guy from the bar, you slipped me your number earlier tonight... at the bar.” the man answered.
“Oh yea, right I forgot sorry.” Elizabeth responded.
“Yea so how are you?” he asked.
Elizabeth answered “I am good a little tired. How are you?”
“Good too. Sorry what is your name?” he asked.
Elizabeth did not want to tell him her real name so she thought about it for a second then told him “My name is Claire. What’s yours?”
“Ross. So do you want to do something tomorrow night?” Ross asked.
Elizabeth did not want to because she had plans with Colton, but she kept up the charade and answered “Yea that sounds great. What do you want to do?”
“Just meet me at the bar at eight tomorrow night.” Ross replied.
“Ok...” Elizabeth was cut off by Ross hanging up on her. Elizabeth thought that was weird, but then she thought that his wife must have walked into whatever room he was hiding in.
‘Well at least I’ll be saving her’ she thought. Elizabeth put the phone down and went back to bed.
The next day Elizabeth called Colton and told her that she had to cancel their plans because she was sick. Colton understood, and told her to get better.
Elizabeth made herself look as good as she possibly could, and took a cab to the bar so that her car would not be placed there by any witnesses. She got there at seven fifty-eight, and exactly two minutes later Ross got there.
He pulled up to the front door, opened the passenger side window and told Elizabeth to get in. Elizabeth obliged his request and got into the car. He started driving; Elizabeth was feeling a little weird.
She asked “Where are we going?”
“I have a cottage on the outskirts of the city.” Ross answered.
“Oh wow right to it.” Elizabeth observed aloud.
“If that’s alright.” Ross commented.
“Yea, it’s great.” then Elizabeth thought that she would not have a way to get home if they went that far away.
“Can we go to a hotel instead, or just find a parking lot.” Elizabeth asked.
“Wow, you really want it, how hard up are you?” Ross asked.
Elizabeth felt queasy as she gritted through her teeth “I just want you that bad.”
“Oh yea.” Ross said smugly.
“Yea.” answered Elizabeth.
“OK I know of a motel nearby.” Ross told her.
He drove them to the motel; he went into the office to book a room. He came back got in than car and drove his car to a parking spot that was in front of the room. Elizabeth put on a baseball hat that she brought along to hide her face she got out of the car then they went to the room.
Ross opened the door and walked in Elizabeth followed, she did not want to waste anymore time. She pulled out her mini machete and stabbed him in the back of the head.
Ross said “What the f...”
Elizabeth lifted the knife up again and stabbed him in the head again; she repeatedly stabbed him in his head until he dropped. She walked away as his dead body lay on the ground. She grabbed a cleaning wipe and wiped down everything she touched. She looked around the room to make sure there was nothing left behind that would place her there.
She then went to his car wiped down the passenger door, on the inside and outside to make sure that any of her fingerprints would be wiped away. She checked the seat for stray hairs, she found a couple, and she picked them up and put them in a baggie.
Elizabeth walked through the alleys and backstreets until her feet hurt. She decided to call a cab to bring her the rest of the way home.
Elizabeth got home she went inside to her surprise Colton was there.
“Hey.” Elizabeth said shocked to see him there. “What are you doing here?”
“What are you not doing here I thought you were sick.” Colton replied.
Elizabeth had just remembered that she told Colton she was sick. “I was feeling a little stir crazy so I went out for a drive in a cab, cause I wanted to go for a drive. I did not want to drive though because, because as you know cause I am sick. But I started to feel sick so, I got out of the cab and started to walk back home. But it was too far so I called a cab to bring me back the rest of the way.” Elizabeth lied, and made a note to remember the story in case she needed to later.
“Oh alright.” Colton said, and then he looked down at Elizabeth’s hand and pointed to it and asked “What’s that?”
Elizabeth looked down at her hand and saw that she had blood on her hand. “Oh when I felt sick I was sick, I guess I got some on my hand.” she reported to him shakily. “I think I am going to be sick again.” Elizabeth fibbed to cover for why her voice was shaky, and then she ran to the bathroom and made fake vomiting noises.
After a couple of minutes she believed she was convincing so she stopped, then she washed her hands vigorously to get all the blood off of herself. She took off her clothes and changed into pyjamas, she put her clothes in a plastic bag, added her baggie of hairs, and her burner phone.
She put the plastic bag in the counter under the sink to burn later. Then she brushed her teeth to make it seem like she was trying to get the vomit taste out of her breath, also she needed to brush her teeth.
She came out of the bathroom, and saw Colton standing outside waiting for her eyeing her with sympathetic eyes.
“Do you feel a little better now?” Colton asked concerned.
“Well I do not feel like I have to vomit anymore.” answered Elizabeth.
“That’s good.” Colton remarked.
Colton helped Elizabeth to her bed, he tucked her in then asked “Is there anything that you want, or need?”
“No, just lay beside me and watch TV with me.” Elizabeth replied.
“Alright that sounds good.” Colton wearily got into the bed; he sat at the very edge of the bed so that he was almost falling off.
“What are you doing?” Elizabeth asked amused.
“I don’t want to get sick.” Colton answered.
“Then why are you here?” mused Elizabeth.
Colton responded “I wanted to take care of you.”
“But you are scared of getting sick. You can go home if you want.” Elizabeth offered.
“No I want to stay, and keep you company.” Colton returned.
Elizabeth responded “OK, I’ll just put on the TV while you try to stay balanced on the edge of the bed.”
Colton giggled, and then he shuffled on to the bed a little closer to Elizabeth. After a couple of hours they fell asleep. Elizabeth woke up in the middle of the night, she looked over and she saw Colton was sleeping soundly.
Elizabeth quickly and quietly went to the bathroom and grabbed the plastic bag from under the sink. She went to the living room and started a fire in the fireplace. When the fire was roaring she threw the contents of the bag in, then she threw the empty plastic bag in.
She watched the fire burn away any evidence of her ever having had any contact with that man Ross. She put out the fire when it was all gone, then she went back to bed.
The next day Elizabeth woke up and saw that Colton was still asleep. She said aloud to herself “Wow I am up before Colton.” She realized that her throat was hurting her when she spoke. She stood up to go to the bathroom, as she stood she felt dizzy.
“Oh Karma is a bitch.” Elizabeth mused to herself.
“What?” Colton said from beside her having woken up from Elizabeth talking to herself.
Elizabeth looked over at him and saw that she had woken him “Oh did I wake you sorry”
“It’s alright, I needed to get up. What did you say?” Colton reiterated.
“Oh I was just saying karma is a bitch.” responded Elizabeth.
“Oh yea.” Colton answered, he then rubbed his head.
“Are you OK?” asked Elizabeth.
Colton sighed and said “No I think you got me sick.”
“Oh.” Elizabeth drew as she realized that Colton had actually gotten her sick. “Sorry.” she lied.
“Well on the bright side we can stay in bed all day together.” Colton claimed as he grabbed Elizabeth and pulled her beside him,
“Ooh yea that is good.” Elizabeth said contently. “Oh shoot!” Elizabeth exclaimed.
“What?” Colton inquired.
“I just remembered that Davina’s wedding is next weekend I hope we are better for it.” Elizabeth answered.
“Well.” He said, as he brought Elizabeth into the fold of his body “If we stay in bed we will get better in no time.”
Elizabeth reached around and held him back “Even if we don’t get better we should definitely stay in bed.”
They spent the day lying in bed in and out of sleep. Colton took sick days off from work, and Elizabeth decided to work from home. They spent the whole week sick together at Elizabeth’s place.
Friday came and Elizabeth still felt sick, but she knew she had to be there for her best friend so she sucked it up and pushed through her illness. Colton was still really sick, since Davina and Darren were her friends she told him to stay home.
She helped Davina out with the rehearsal dinner. They rehearsed walking down the aisle. Davina and Darren rehearsed how they would stand to be married. That took about forty minutes afterward they went out to a restaurant and had the rehearsal dinner.
Elizabeth did her best to give an emotional and moving toast for Davina through her dizzy spells and nausea. She failed horrifically and she knew it but it soothed her knowing that she would not remember it later. She apologized to Davina who was very understanding, which Elizabeth was very grateful for.
Elizabeth ate nothing but the soup because she was not even sure she would be able to keep that down. She managed to get through the night without running to the bathroom. Davina was grateful Elizabeth came to the rehearsal dinner while so sick, but when she saw Elizabeth starting to fade Davina demanded that she go home and get some sleep.
Elizabeth fought her as she felt bad for leaving early, however Davina was insistent. When she got home and got into bed and felt the warmth of her bed’s embrace, she was grateful Davina made her go home.
Elizabeth set her alarm for six A.M, so that she would awake bright and early. She got ready then went over to Davina’s house; she arrived there at seven thirty half hour past when she said she would be there. She apologized to Davina for being late; Davina told her that it was OK.
Davina had aestheticians come over to do hers and her bridesmaid’s hair, and make-up. Davina and Elizabeth were sitting next to each other, talking to one another.
“So we bought a house.” Davina told Elizabeth.
“Oh that is so great.” Elizabeth replied. “Do you have pictures?”
“Yea, I will show you later.” Davina answered.
“Alright.” Elizabeth responded.
“So how are you feeling?” Davina asked.
“I actually feel a lot better today.” Elizabeth answered realizing that she did in fact feel a lot better. She was so busy before she had not even realized.
“That is good.” Davina commented.
“Yea, I mean my stomach feels a little weak still but, that is it.” Elizabeth confided. “Maybe God is giving me a day pass for your wedding.”
“Maybe you are just getting over it.” Davina offered.
“Yea, you’re probably right.” Elizabeth returned.
“How is Colton today?” asked Davina.
“Oh I have no idea, he is at his place. He went home yesterday and I haven’t talked to him today.” Elizabeth replied. “I hope he is better though.”
“Yea I hope so too, if he is too sick he does not have to come today.” Davina suggested.
“Thanks, but he was pretty determined to come today. So I think no matter what he will be here. Well not here, I mean at your wedding.” Elizabeth informed Davina.
“OK.” Davina responded through a small laugh.
They finished getting their hair and make-up done by noon. Davina ordered in food for them all to eat lunch. During lunch she showed everyone the pictures she had of her new house, and it was beautiful. After lunch they headed out to go to the church.
They went into the bride’s room and stayed in there touching up their make-up waiting to be told it was time. Just when Elizabeth thought that they would never leave that room, they were told it was time to start.
The bridesmaids went one by one down the aisle with their groomsmen, and then Elizabeth linked arms with the best man and went down the aisle. Elizabeth got to the front then the bride’s song came on and everybody stood up. Davina walked down the aisle, Elizabeth could tell that everyone thought that Davina was stunning.
Elizabeth looked at Darren he was staring at Davina as though she was the only person in the church, the only person in the world. Elizabeth was so happy for her friend that she found someone so great who loved her as much as Darren did.
