Chapter 87 Chapter 87
Though I had been thinking about Chloe's advice throughout the week, I still hadn't had time to work towards the training because since I returned to the pack house, my role now as Luna was bulky because I had to attend to so many things and set a few things right. Though I still loved it more than being an omega, it was also very exhausting
People had been hired to take over my chores as omega as were going to be paid bi-weekly.
I already calculated the cost for the orphanage and scheduled when I was going to attend to a few other things till break arrived.
I leaned back in my chair with a deep breath.
There was a knock on my door and Mae and Ava were standing by the widely opened door with cups of coffee in Ava's hands.
"Can we come in, Luna Jane?" Mae asked jokingly.
"Stop being so silly and hop in." I grinned, glad I had company again.
They walked in and Mae sat on my table while Ava sat on the chair across mine.
"This place is so beautiful and spacious, though I still love my office even more." Ava smiled. She was so proud of her new job and wasn't going to stop blabbering about it being the best and what she dreamed of.
Mae rolled her eyes and reached for one of the cups; I did the same as well, taking a nice and long sip of my coffee. It tasted so refreshing and made me feel a sense of calmness.
"So... Mae, how are you and Casper now? If you try to avoid the question, I'll pluck your eyes out of their socket." I threatened her.
She raised her hand in surrender and chuckled. "I just really like Casper, but I don't know if he feels the same way." She shrugged.
"Don't worry, I'm sure he'll like you back. You're a sweet person." I assure her.
"I really hope he will, so we can be chosen mates." She smiled dreamily, fluttering her eyelashes.
"Chosen mates? Is it actually real?" Ava beamed.
"Of course. If you like someone and you both want to be mates, you can consult the moon goddess then choose each other, or you can just mark each other and make promises with sincerity."
"Wow, that's so great! There's this guy I really like, he's a werewolf too, but his mate broke his heart by rejecting him. He's extremely hurt and shattered from the rejection, so I'm still hoping to help him move on from it. I want him to feel the same way I feel towards him then we'd be chosen mates. That'd be great!" she celebrated.
"That's so cute. I hope it works out as you want it to." I took another sip.
"I'm glad you like someone. I was starting to doubt if you'll end up with a mate in your life, but now I know there's hope." Mae joked and Ava playfully hit her.
I noticed Keegan passing by the doorway. Our gaze met and he winked at me before walking away. That was enough to make me start blushing like a crazy duck again.
"I'll assume Alpha Keegan just passed." Mae said and they both glanced at the door but he had gone.
My stomach suddenly grumbled, reminding me of its food absence. If I was hungry, then it meant that Rylee was probably hungry as well.
"I have to leave now." I quickly rose to my feet.
"Where are you heading to?" Mae wondered.
"Just to my room. I want to take a nap after having lunch." I smiled and took my leave, trying my best not to act suspicious.
I quickly headed to the kitchen and served lunch that was going to be enough for both of us before heading to my bedroom.
"You're back!" Rylee celebrated and scurried to give me a hug. "And you brought food. I'm so hungry."
I dropped the food on the table and she started munching on it.
I started hearing footsteps heading in the direction of my bedroom. "Quickly, hide under the sheets."
I pulled her from the table and made her hide under the sheets. I was panicking way too much to realize it made no sense. When her body was still in view after being covered by the sheets, I placed so many pillows on top of her so it just seemed like a pile of pillows.
I quickly pulled away when the door knob twisted then Keegan walked in.
He glanced around then at me.
"H-hey Keegan." I twittered.
"Jane..." He called, drawing his eyes at me suspiciously.
"Do you need anything?" I wondered, trying to sound less nervous.
What situation had Rylee put me into?
"Do I need permission to walk into my mate's room?" he lifted an eyebrow as he ambled towards me.
"No, you most certainly don't." I smiled.
"I want to discuss the Ardolfs with you. As Luna, you'd need to attend some sensitive or confidential pack meetings, like our recent meetings that have to do with the Ardolfs."
"The Ardolfs?" I paid closer attention, remembering Vladimir was talking about them. "Who exactly are these Ardolfs? Why are they so important or a large threat that calls for confidential meetings?"
"They are really dangerous and greedy people. They almost ruined my entire pack and they were kind of stronger than me with their combined strength. They almost defeated me but we were able to get rid of them only temporarily. Now they're back and they're even stronger than before. They can do anything at all to get what they want. I was younger then so I was very scared of them, even Drex had a bit of fear for them. But now that I'm older, I'm more mature and stronger and know that no matter how powerful they may seem to be, I am better." He explained. "I'm just trying to remain hopeful."
"Wow."
"Yes, and Mom didn't want anyone to know about them so the pride and name of the pack doesn't get crushed. They didn't only affect me but out board of important pack members They had ruined Mom as well, they almost killed Shane's family member, they were a big threat to Scarlett and her parents, they traumatized Mason, and Mrs. Bea's husband was nowhere to be found after he met with one of the Ardolfs. They are very sneaky and you can never know what to expect from them, they are extremely cunning and can destroy a thousand- year creation in a second, so we're being extremely careful of them and making trainings more rigid to fight against them if we ever need to because they are way too manipulative to be taken for granted.
"I'm telling you this because as the new Luna, you might be another means for their attack and might place you in danger. I want you to be safe." he held my hand and was about to sit on the bed when I quickly pulled him back up with widened eyes.
He glanced at me in skepticism but to prevent any doubt, I held his neck and made him place his hands on my waist. My heart was beating faster, but I tried to start a conversation, "Keegan, I know you're stressed with everything and about those Ardolfs but I'm sure they'll be no match for you." I was hiding my nervousness behind my warm smile. "In the last week, we've been too busy with work and haven't even had enough time to spend together. I kind of miss a few things. Even during break, we don't speak to each other then when it's nighttime, I'm usually asleep by the time you're done with work. Working so much is making us seem far apart."
"We can't be far apart. I think about you every fucking time and being so close to my office, your scent just swims around my office room. The only reason I'm not able to talk to you during breaks is because you're always with your friends, you don't think of me like I think of you every time." he was being pouty again and it just made him look like a really cute big baby. "I'm always bored and alone."
"I definitely think of you so much as well, but the reason you feel bored and alone is because you're so boring. You don't have any friends at all. Isn't it so weird that you're not even friends with Mason after growing up together for so many years?"
"We're so much used to being Alpha and Gamma, so it'd be weird to just be friends with him." he started circling his fingers on my waist. "Is it a crime for me to just want your company?"
"It's not, it's pretty sweet, but at least, try to have one more friend. Try to start a conversation with Mason that isn't work related, try to play games with him sometimes and just do random things men that are friends do."
"I'm not boring. People are just weird, but I'll try to make friends with Mason if it'll make you happy." He let go of me. "Now what's with these pillows?" he wanted to reach to them but I still held his hand, my quickened breath returned.
To still avoid him from turning to Rylee again, I started another conversation. "We should plan to take a short break alone, somewhere that isn't with everyone around us, it can be in the pack too, not far away."
"It sounds like a great idea and I'll definitely work on it," then he held my waist to pull me closer to him. "I'll make sure we spend time together, but Jane remember, that I'm not stupid."
I was confused as to why he said it but when he turned back to my bed, my heart started pounding really fast as I pulled him away again.
"Jane," he called with a frown, "don't do this and create trust issues. Don't try to advantage of the fact that I'm lost by your attention to get rid of my attention from something that might be a big deal. I'm not stupid and I have a great hearing sensitivity, so I can hear breathing noises from under the sheets and you've been acting way too suspicious with this room." He pivoted. "Who the hell serves lunch for two people and eats it alone in her room?" he said angrily as he lifted the sheets up, revealing a trembling Rylee.
She screamed when she came into view and sat up straight. Her emerald eyes had popped out in fear and she was nibbling on her lower lip. "Please... please don't kill me sir." She begged.
