Chapter 88 Chapter 88
"Kill you? Jane, what's going on?"
"I'm so sorry Keegan. She's Rylee. I saw her when I went on a stroll and she claimed that she left her pack because they were maltreating her. Her parents were murdered so now she doesn't have anywhere to go to and her pack wanted to exhaust her life as their slave so she had been running for two or three days before she found me. She hadn't eaten for three days so I brought her here and made her food, I kept her here for security." I said in one breath.
"I'm the Alpha. I'm very observant. Did you think you could hide a child in your room from me forever?" The frown he had on scared me so much, it made me feel like an omega speaking to an Alpha again.
"I already heard you speaking to someone, I observed that you were sneaky, her scent, my nostrils are super sensitive, so I could pick the scent of a rogue around. I knew you've been hiding someone from me but I trusted you to let me know the truth." His voice was very cold and that made me start to tremble again.
"I'm so sorry Keegan. I wanted to let you know but because of the cruel and terrible image all other packs have painted you as, Rylee didn't want me to tell you." I tried to make some sense.
"So you were going to keep it a secret from me forever?"
"No, I wasn't. I was going to tell you. I-I just didn't know how. I was afraid you'd react this way and Kylee is so scared of the arrogant Alpha she knows you as." My voice was so low.
He glanced at Rylee and she was shivering with her teeth gnashing against one another in fear.
"Please Keegan, I promise you it wasn't intentional for me to not tell you. Rylee really wants to stay here and-"
"I'm so mad at you right now, Jane. What didn't you understand when I said being my mate meant we had to love, support, and trust each other at all times? We're supposed to be one, one mind, soul, body. I'm trying the absolute best I can to let you know everything about me, all secrets, all my traumas, my fears, my happiness, but if you continue doing this, you won't be helping our relationship. It just wouldn't make any sense."
"Keegan, I'm sorry." Tears pricked at the corner of my eyes.
"What if it leads to bigger troubles for you that you can't handle and I'm unable to help you solve it? What would that make me? This is "
He was interrupted by my unexpected sobbing. I didn't even realize I had started crying until now.
"Please don't be mad at her. I made her do it. I just really liked her and everyone has made me hate you right from my birth, so I made her promise me she won't tell you. She wanted to tell you so many times.
His frown was now directed at her then he started walking.
I thought he was going to walk away but he stopped to draw me into a hug. "It's fine. It doesn't mean you should cry. I guess I lost my temper again. Don't hide things for me, I really won't appreciate such, okay? Be able to trust me. I promise to be the most accepting of whatever you tell me and will try my best not to be mad over it no matter how terrible it might be. Just open up to me all the time. I really need you to trust me, we need to have mutual trust."
I was still sobbing in his chest and sniffled. "I'm so sorry. I won't hide such things from you anymore."
"And don't ever tremble like that towards me. I won't hit you or anything like thr because I'm mad, stop making me feel like a monster was quivering so much when I'm talking to you." He started stroking my hair and I hugged him really tight. "Okay, now stop being such a baby. You're embarrassing yourself in the presence of a child." He joked and I pulled away, sniffling.
"How old is she?"
"I'm 6." she responded before I could, her emerald eyes were still gleaming in fear, especially when Keegan started moving closer to her.
"wh-what are you going to do to me?" she stuttered, still biting her lower lip.
"Since you said her parents are dead and You want to be in the pack, we'll sign her up to the orphanage home." He said casually.
Rylee's face became droopy and she glanced at me with pleading eyes. "But"
"Can't she stay here?"
"Stay here? Why?" he quirked an eyebrow.
"Yes, just here. I've become quite fond of her lately. Can't she stay with me? I promise she won't be troublesome."
"I won't be at all. I won't even bother you, you won't even know I exist. The orphanage is terrible. No one ever likes me, I'm certain they won't like me at the orphanage.
She got off the bed and went on her knees, joining her palms together. "I'll do anything you want, I just want a good life."
He chuckled then her eyes bugged out in wonder. "So you can laugh? I never even thought you could ever smile. The things I heard about Alpha Keegan of Dark stone pack is that he never smiles at anyone."
"You know that judging someone from what you've heard of them isn't really nice. Though some of what you might've heard could be true, most of it depends on actually meeting the person, right Jane?"
"Of course."
"Oh, so I'm supposed to know you well enough before judging whether or not you're terrible?" she asked for clarification.
"Correct."
"Okay. Let me know more about you. How do you feel about being old?" she asked him and he frowned, while I burst into laughter.
"Old? I'm not old."
"Aren't you like 30? That's old." She creased her forehead.
"I'm 25."
"That's still old." a smile was tempting to form on her lips.
"Okay, that was a very random question, but now that you know I'm not going to kill you, do you still think I'm terrible?"
"If Jane likes you, then I have to, but not like you to get married to you." She clarified while we both chuckled.
There was an awkward silence for a while till she broke it "You're mates, right? Just like my Mummy and Daddy?"
"Yes, we are." Keegan proudly replied.
"Oh, so you have a baby too?"
"Uh... no." he replied, narrowing his eyes at her.
"Why not? When will you have a baby? You make a good couple."
"Rylee..." I scolded.
"My mummy was pregnant with a baby before they killed her. You should have a baby too. My Dad told me that babies strengthen the bond between couples, just like I did to them."
"We don't have a baby or pup now, but we will, very soon." He didn't give me the chance to address that when he asked her. "Do you love babies?"
"Yes! Isn't it so obvious?" She was grinning from ear to ear.
"I also love babies." Keegan replied.
"You do?" I wondered.
"Yes." That was new news to me. "It's also one of the things I try to hide, but I love seeing those cute little babies or pups and holding their small hands.
She wrapped her arms around him. "Thank you so much for not killing me or punishing Jane."
"Why'd I ever punish Jane? She's my soul now. I'd be punishing myself." that made my cheeks flush with a blush. "So you'd like to join my pack now?"
She pulled away from him. "Will I have to work and do hard chores like in my old pack?
"No."
"Will I be able to grow up and become a successful doctor and go to school?"
"If you want to, then you will, we'd support your education." He assured her.
"Really?!" She squealed. "You really are a good person. I'd love to join your pack!" She exclaimed.
"That's a wonderful choice. Now that you'll be joining my pack, I'll have to know everything about you to fill in your information. Will you do that for me?" he asked in a playful tone.
"Yes!" She grinned.
"Okay, let's head to your new Gamma so you can officially become one of us." he crouched to her height. "Hop on."
She wrapped her arm around his neck and he lifted her up her feet and walked out of the room, forgetting my presence. It wasn't fair that she just took my mate's attention from me, but I was so glad that Keegan was going to make her have a normal life and he seemed to like her.
I had just completed addressing and distributing the necessary items to the orphanage and made sure to go with many gifts and toys. It made all the children there love me and I had fun with all of them. Though I didn't want Rylee to be there, I was going to make her go with me next time to play with the children at the orphanage.
Walking back into our bedroom, I fell on his bed beside him while he was typing away on his laptop.
"Hey Keegan, I'd like to start training to improve my natural strength." I said.
He glanced from above his laptop, drawing closer attention to me."Are you sure of this?"
"Yes, I am. I've thought about it and I don't want to procrastinate any further. I want to start the training. How soon can I start it?"
"As soon as you want to."
"Tomorrow?" I asked, excited.
"Okay. For that, I might have to talk to a professional. Are you completely certain of it? Because it's a rigorous process and the trainers would have to make serious preparations. If you back out at an early stage, they'd be very pissed off and you'd most likely not be able to do it again.
"Okay, I agree. I'd bear with whatever may come my way. If it'll help me be stronger and possibly find my wolf, then I'm up for it." I hadn't been so sure of something in my whole life like I was sure of this.
"I'll speak to him now."
He paused and I could tell he was mind linking someone. After a while, he smiled at me. "Great news! He agreed. You'll start training tomorrow as you want to."
"Seriously?! Tomorrow?"
"Yes."
"Wow, that's so cool! What are the things I need to prepare for?
"I have no idea for now, but I'll get across to you with that information. I'm going to be heading out of town for maybe a day or two. By the time I return, I must've seen some improvements in your strength, okay?"
"Okay, but Where are you going?
I have to attend to a few issues at Crescent pack. I'll be back soon, it might not even take a day depending on how well I carry it out."
"Aw, I'll miss you." I hifter closer to lean against him. "Of course you have to, but I'll be back very soon." He held my hand. "Just know that I'll support you no matter them circumstances of your training. If you ever need someone to talk ro about it or to cry about it, just let me know, okay?"
"Sure, thank you. I'll take a bath now." I let go of him and kissed his cheek then headed to the bathroom.
