Chapter 35 Chapter 0035
Chapter 35 Chapter 0035
•DOMINIC•
After my call with Aveline, I grabbed my car keys from the counter and went to the car.
I was so close to making things official with Kaila, but Aveline’s thoughts never left my mind.
But when I realized she was somewhere she wasn't supposed to be, it made sense why the bond kept nagging at me, pushing me to call her.
I knew she went there because she was trying to avoid me after what happened at the underground building.
But I had every right to react the way I did. I wouldn't have let her see another man while she was my mate.
I drove to her home and, upon arrival, parked outside the gate, where I saw my mother's car in the driveway.
I released a soft groan because I wouldn't be able to go in without telling them the real reason I was there.
Aveline’s father and my mother probably thought Aveline and I weren't getting along. We didn't even talk when they introduced us to each other.
So, I drove to the nearest bar to figure out my next plan from there, but that's when I saw her.
It finally made sense why I had been so restless about her.
"Leave me alone!" She growled, her wolf on the surface as the two men circled her as if she were prey.
I watched from a distance, trying to see how this would play out before coming to her rescue.
"Do you think little fangs and claws scare us?" The other snarled as he grabbed her arm, pulling her toward the dark alley.
I shook my head and realized I had seen enough and wouldn't let anyone treat her that way. She knew it was forbidden to shift in front of humans.
I cracked my knuckles as I approached them, but before I got to them, Aveline did something I didn't expect.
She twisted her arm sharply against the man's grip, breaking free with practiced precision, and drove her elbow into his jaw before he even registered what had happened.
He staggered back with a grunt, crashing into the brick wall beside the alley entrance.
I stopped walking.
The second man lunged at her, and she sidestepped him so smoothly it looked effortless, as if she had done it a thousand times.
She caught his wrist mid-swing, leveraged his own momentum against him, and sent him face-first into the ground. The impact was loud enough that I winced.
Both men lay groaning, dazed, and completely humiliated.
Aveline straightened her jacket, brushed her hair from her face, and exhaled slowly.
It reminded me of how she moved when we were in the physical training class. But it never crossed my mind then that she could defend herself so effortlessly.
She tilted her head, and when our eyes met, she rolled her eyes. She walked toward me with her hands folded across her chest.
"What are you doing here?" She seethed. "Are you done fucking your fiancé?"
"You put your life in danger and you want to ask me about Kaila when I came here to take you back to the school?" I scoffed as I leaned toward her.
I couldn't understand how a 5'2'' tall maniac could make me lose my composure.
She was disrupting everything in my life, even though I had made it clear more than once that we couldn't be together because our parents were engaged.
But she made me do things I wouldn't have dreamt of doing if she were someone else.
"I told you to leave me alone, didn't I?" she frowned. "You've done enough already, and I won't let you try to control my life any longer. Matteo and I are together, and I want you to leave him alone."
"You're my mate, and I thought I made it clear I won't let another man have you. You're mine, Aveline, and mine alone."
"You should go fuck yourself," she sneered as she walked past me. "I will be yours in wet dreams."
I turned around and looked at her as she walked to the side of the road, probably requesting a ride back to school.
I looked at her round butt in those jeans and bit my lower lip as I fought the temptation of dragging her into the bar restroom.
She was standing right next to my car, so I walked over to the passenger seat and opened the door for her.
"Hop in, and let's go back to school."
She didn't answer or look at me. She continued tapping on her phone and pretending as if she didn't hear my voice.
She annoyed me, but I forced myself to be patient with her. I could never bring myself to leave her there in the middle of the night.
"Can you get—"
She hopped inside and slammed the door. I stood there for a moment and tried to calm myself down.
I fixed my shirt and went to the driver's seat. I roared the engine to life and drove back to the academy in silence.
When we arrived, I parked the car and turned to Aveline, thinking she'd already be out of the car before I could say a word to her, but I realized she was sleeping.
She looked so peaceful and beautiful. Just as she did when we spent the night by the riverbank.
I got out of the car and picked her up. She didn't even wake up, and I picked her up in my arms.
I took her to my room and laid her down on the bed so she could rest. Her breath reeked of alcohol, and a part of me felt like the cause of her leaving at night to drink.
And when Kaila came to see me, my chest tightened, thinking she would tell our parents about seeing Aveline in my room.
I didn't want my father on my tail, making things even harder than they were.
When she left, I leaned toward Aveline and took off her shoes before she turned to the wall and slept.
I looked at her for a long moment before my cell phone rang. I hesitated picking it up, but when I saw my father’s name on the screen, I knew Kaila had said something to him.
"Yes, Father?" I answered, swallowing.
"Kaila just sent me a video of you escorting a girl into your room. Do you want to tell me why you're constantly trying to embarrass our family name?"
I should've known.
"Is Kaila watching now?"
"You should answer my question."
"I have done everything you told me to do," I sneered. "What more do you want? My soul and my peace?"
I looked at Aveline. She was fast asleep.
"My driver will come to pick you up in the morning," he answered after a few moments. "I will expect to see you at home tomorrow."
