Chapter 37 Chapter Thirty-Seven
“I know baby.” I give her a sympathetic smile. “You remind me so much of your mom. You are strong and resilient just like her. I bet you will be the best warrior this pack has ever seen.”
Leilani pulls me into a tight hug, burying her face in my chest. “Thank you, Malakai. Thank you for saying that. It means more than you know.”
“I meant every word baby. You are special baby. You are going to be an amazing Alpha. Your dad is going to be so proud of you.” I kiss the top of her head, hugging her a little tighter against me.
I hold her close, rubbing the back of her head with my hand. After a little while she pulls away, looking up at me. "Do we need to get back to training?" She asks in a whisper so quiet if I wasn't a wolf I might not have heard it.
I nod my head. "We do baby, but first there is something I need to give you." I say giving her a soft smile.
"What is it?" She asks with furrowed brows.
I cup her cheeks with my hands giving her one soft peck on the lips. "Come with me baby. It's inside the house."
Leilani smiles at me. "Okay."
I take her hand and lead her back inside the house. Once inside we make our way to her dad's office. I open the drawer Tiberius said her mother's letter is in. I find it exactly where he said it would be. I hand her the letter and she stares at it confused.
"A letter?" She asks, her eyebrows furrowed in confusion.
"This is a letter from your mother. She wrote it for you before she died, in case anything ever happened to her. Your mother instructed your dad to give it to you on your eighteenth birthday. I know it's a little late, but I think now is the perfect time for you to have it." I say, smiling reassuringly at her.
"A letter from my mom? What's in it? Do you know what it says or why she felt like she needed to write it?" She asks, throwing out one question after another.
I shake my head. "No baby. I don't know what it says, or why she wrote it. I haven't looked at it and neither has your father. Your mom gave very specific instructions that no one should read this letter besides you. Only you can decide if someone else reads it baby."
Leilani frowns. "Oh. Should I read it right now?" She asks, flipping the letter around in her hand.
I put my hand on hers. "That is up to you baby. You can read it now, or whenever you are ready. There is no rush baby. Read it whenever you feel like it's the right time."
Leilani takes a deep breath nodding her head. "I think I want to read it right now."
I smile at her. "Okay baby. Do you want me to give you some privacy?"
She grabs my wrist, eyes wide and panicked. "No. Please stay in here with me while I read it."
I grab her hand in mine giving it a gentle squeeze. "Of course baby. I will stay right here, I'm not going anywhere unless you want me too."
Leilani takes a deep breath and flips the letter over, breaking the seal open. She pulls the letter out and glances up at me. I give her a reassuring smile and she opens up the letter.
\-Leilani’s POV-
I open up the letter, pretty much holding my breath. I don’t know if I even want to know what the letter says. What if my mom put something in this letter that I don’t want to know about her or myself? What if she tells me something bad about my father? It could be a million different things in here. Half of which I wouldn’t want to know.
I take a very deep breath, blowing it out slowly and unfold the paper opening it up so I can read it.
My Dearest Leilani,
If you are reading this letter that means something bad has happened to me. I am writing you this letter because there are so many things I need to let you know about the person and wolf you will grow up to be. About the kind of person and wolf I was. The reason I am writing this in a letter is because I don’t know if I will be around for your eighteenth birthday and you need to know what I am going to tell you.
I made your father promise never to read this letter, and to only give it to you once you have turned eighteen years old. I hope he kept this promise. There are some things you have probably noticed that are happening a little bit faster than normal. I’m guessing your eighteenth birthday was not the first time you shifted.
I stop reading, eyes going wide. How did she know the first time I shifted was not on my eighteenth birthday? No one in the pack has ever heard of this happening before. I casually asked around the first time I shifted, just to see if it was a possibility. Everyone in the pack said it was impossible.
Malakai gives me a concerned look. “Is everything okay Angel?”
I nod my head, turning my attention back to the letter. “Umm yeah. I am okay. I just, my mom she knew some things were going to happen to me, before I even knew it.”
Malakai gives me a soft smile. “Well baby, she is your mother. Mother’s intuition is strong Angel.”
“Yeah, I guess so.” I mumble, as I go back to reading the letter.
