Chapter 36 Chapter Thirty-Six
She doubles over in pain, clutching her wrist as the bones mend themselves back together. When she straightens back up, her breathing is heavy, each breath coming out on a growl. Her eyes have changed back to a bright glowing red color. Leilani lunges forward, throwing punch after punch.
Her punches are stronger, and faster. I struggle to block every punch. She throws two punches one right after the other and one punch hits me directly in my jaw. I feel my jaw crack from the impact and I growl.
My claws come out on instinct and I lunge forward cutting her across the stomach. Her tank top tears, and I can feel my claws break through her skin, but she doesn’t bleed. You can’t even tell I cut her. It’s like she instantly healed.
Leilani punches me again and I punch her back, kicking her feet out from under her. She hits the ground hard, but she doesn’t stay down. Within seconds she is back on her feet, punching, clawing and just honestly whooping my ass. I stab her stomach with my claws, thrusting them up in a tearing motion. When I pull my hand back there is blood on my claws, but same result as earlier. No stab marks or anything on her.
She kicks me directly in the knee cap, forcing it to bend backward, breaking my knee and maybe even a few other bones. I fall to the ground howling in pain, and she finally stops her attack. Leilani falls to the ground beside me; her eyes changed back to the gray color. “Oh my God, Malakai are you okay? I am so sorry, I don’t know what came over me. I didn’t mean to hurt you. I am so sorry, please tell me you are okay.” She rambles in a panic, looking like she is going to hyperventilate at anytime.
I take a few deep breaths, feeling my bones mending themselves back together. We may heal, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t hurt like a bitch while we are healing. “I am okay, take a deep breath Leilani. I’m okay. You need to calm down.”
A tear streams down her face. “I am so sorry. I didn’t mean to hurt you.”
I chuckle, trying to ignore the pain as the last bone snaps into place. “Baby. It’s okay. Seriously it’s okay. This is a good thing. I wanted to get you pissed off. I need you to get pissed off, if that’s what it takes to make you a good warrior.”
I reach up wiping a tear from her eyes. “Baby, look I am okay.” I say standing up and pulling her to her feet. “I’m healed. You didn’t hurt me; you were fighting baby. You were becoming a real warrior. You can’t let someone’s pain get to you. When you are fighting for real it will be life or death. As in your life or your death. You will have to do whatever it takes to stay alive, even hurting or killing someone.”
Leilani nods her head. “Are you sure you are okay?” She asks, looking me up and down, checking for injuries.
I laugh. “Yes baby. I am okay. Are you okay?” I ask.
She furrows her eyebrows at me, giving me a confused look. “What do you mean? Of course I am okay. Why wouldn’t I be?”
I extend my claws, her blood still coating them. “Because baby, I stabbed you. This is your blood.”
Leilani looks at my hands confused. “You stabbed me?”
Now it’s my turn to look confused. “Yes baby. I stabbed you, not just once but twice. I tore my claws upwards through your stomach. You didn’t feel it?”
She bites her lip, looking at my hand again, then down at her stomach, then up at me. “No, I didn’t know you stabbed me. Why isn’t there any blood on my stomach?”
I shake my head. “I don’t know baby. It was like you healed instantly. Even when I cut you there wasn’t a mark or any blood or anything except for what is on my claws baby.”
Leilani looks down at the tears in her shirt, touching the material. “I don’t understand.”
“It’s okay baby. I’m glad you didn’t feel anything. I am sure it was just because of your adrenaline. That’s a good thing though baby. Use that to your advantage when you are in battle.” I say grabbing her hand and kissing the back of it.
“I- I don’t know how I did it though. I was just fighting, I wasn’t thinking about it, I was just trying to take you down. How will I do it when I’m in battle if I don’t know what I even did to begin with?” She asks rambling nervously.
I chuckle. “Maybe you are just a natural warrior baby.”
Leilani laughs. “Yeah right.” She says sarcastically.
“You never know baby. Your dad is the best warrior this pack has ever seen and your mom. Wow, your mom could handle her own, we will just put it that way.”
Leilani smiles. “My mom was a warrior?”
I nod my head laughing thinking of all the times I watched her mom fight grown ass men. Taking them down with ease. “Your mom wasn’t a trained warrior. She didn’t do the training like you are doing, but she was a natural. She could take down anyone and anything that stood in her way. Your mom was a force to be reckoned with.”
Leilani’s smile widens. “Wow, I had no clue my mom was a fighter. My dad never told me that before. He doesn’t talk about her much you know.”
