Chapter 202
Chapter 202
John couldn't be bothered with small talk and got straight to the point: "What were you doing in the design department between 8:30 and 9:00 the night before last?"
That one question made Stanley's face turn pale.
He hadn't expected the CEO to trace it back to him so quickly. He stammered, "I, I never went to the design department..."
John's expression darkened as he sat down in his chair, his cold gaze fixed on Stanley. His commanding presence made Stanley unable to meet his eyes.
Kevin knew his boss had no patience for people like this and said directly, "Your disguise was good, but the company has high-definition surveillance. After you locked the bathroom in the design department, you went to the emergency stairwell, took off your disguise, changed into your own clothes, and left. What else do you have to say?"
Kevin opened the surveillance footage on his phone and tossed it right in front of Stanley.
Every moment was crystal clear—from him sneaking into the design department, locking Jane in the bathroom, going to the emergency stairwell, and then leaving the company.
Stanley completely lost his balance and collapsed to the floor, his face ashen.
John's face was cold, his sharp gaze seeming to pierce right through him: "Talk. Who put you up to this?"
"No one, no one put me up to it." Stanley instinctively denied it. "I did this on my own. No one told me to do it..."
"Is that so?"
Two cold words, devoid of emotion, yet carrying an overwhelming sense of pressure that struck like thunder.
Stanley trembled: "Yes, it was all my own idea..."
"Then how do you explain these?" John suddenly lost his temper and threw a stack of photos in his face.
Scattered on the floor were pictures of him hiding in the shadows, secretly watching Anna.
Stanley's face turned deathly pale, unable to say another word.
John: "She made you do this, didn't she? You like her!"
"No, no." Stanley still refused to admit it.
It was true that Anna's assistant Lily had leaked the information to him, but choosing to act on it was his own decision.
He suddenly became firm in his choice and looked up at John directly: "Yes, I do like Ms. Watson. I think she's the most gentle and kind woman in the world, but I also know I'm not worthy of her. So I only dared to watch her from afar. I thought, as long as she's happy, I'd be at peace. But Jane's appearance destroyed all her happiness!"
He practically shouted that last sentence.
Seeing John's cold silence, he gave a bitter laugh and continued: "At Smith Corporation, who doesn't know that Ms. Watson and Mr. Smith are meant to be together? Only Ms. Watson is worthy of Mr. Smith. But then Jane appeared and took you away. I couldn't bear to see Ms. Watson sad. I wasn't willing to accept it! So I wanted to stand up for Ms. Watson!"
He got it all out in one breath.
John's expression grew even colder as he spoke slowly: "Who told you Anna and I are a couple? Did I ever admit to that?"
Stanley was stunned. No, he really hadn't.
But he still believed that only John was worthy of Anna.
John couldn't be bothered with him anymore and gave a cold snort: "Since you're brave enough to take the fall for someone else, you can spend the rest of your life in prison. Kevin, call the police!"
"Yes, Mr. Smith."
"No, please, Mr. Smith." Stanley was terrified, never expecting this outcome. He immediately begged: "I know I was wrong, Mr. Smith. Please don't send me to prison. My parents died when I was young. I only have an eighty-year-old blind Grandma at home. If I go to jail, who will take care of her..."
But John remained unmoved.
Stanley cried and begged.
John simply waved his hand.
Kevin took him away.
Later, Kevin returned to the office.
After hesitating for a moment, he finally asked: "Mr. Smith, do you really believe no one put him up to this?"
"Maybe he did all this willingly, but he's just a low-level employee who only dared to watch from afar. If no one had leaked the information to him, how could he possibly know Jane has a fear of darkness?"
Kevin suddenly understood. "This Stanley is really foolish enough to ruin his whole life for a woman he can never have."
John nodded: "Don't involve the family. Go arrange for someone to send some money to his Grandma and take care of the old woman."
Only then did Kevin understand his boss's intention. Given his boss's usual style, just firing Stanley from the company would have been enough. But Stanley had deliberately targeted Jane.
The boss was using him as an example to warn everyone in the company that anyone who dared to target Jane would face consequences. Stanley was taking the first hit for everyone else.
"Also, have Anna come see me."
Even if Stanley took all the blame, Anna was the real culprit, and she couldn't escape.
...
As soon as Anna arrived at the company, she heard about Stanley being taken away by the police.
At the time, Kevin had security guards hold Stanley at the company entrance, waiting for the police to arrive.
It was during work hours, and everyone coming and going saw it.
Anna's heart skipped a beat, and she immediately went to her office.
Lily rushed up to her, looking panicked: "Ms. Watson, Mr. Smith wants to see you."
"Did Stanley give me up?" Anna asked urgently.
"No, no, Stanley took all the blame, so I don't know why Mr. Smith is calling you."
Anna was already in shock.
She knew that even if Stanley hadn't given her up, John could figure out that she was behind it.
Over such a small matter, he directly sent Stanley to prison. It seemed he was determined to stand up for Jane this time.
She was seething with hatred, her jealousy of Jane reaching its peak.
But since John had called for her, she couldn't delay.
She barely managed to steady herself before going to the floor where John worked.
Entering his office, she put on an air of innocence and asked in a gentle tone: "John, I just got to the company and heard you were looking for me. Is something wrong?"
