Chapter 203
Chapter 203
John looked up from his files at her without saying a word, his cold gaze already filled with chill.
Anna's heart skipped a beat, but she forced herself to stay calm and smiled, "You're angry about Stanley, right? I heard about it as soon as I got to the company. I never thought he would do something like that to Jane... Actually, this whole thing started because of me. I apologize to you on his behalf. Please don't be angry anymore, okay?"
"You're quick to apologize," John said with a cold snort. "But I'm not the one you should be apologizing to."
What did he mean by that?
Did he want her to apologize to Jane?
How could Anna swallow that?
She tried to reason with him, "John, I know you're angry that someone in the company did this to Jane, but I really didn't expect Stanley to act so extreme. If I had known, I would have stopped him.
Stanley is actually quite pitiful. His parents died when he was young, and he only has a blind Grandma at home. Now he's already received his punishment, and Jane is fine too. Why do you have to keep dwelling on this? If word gets out, it won't be good for Smith Corporation's reputation, right?"
Her words were earnest and sincere, as if she really had his and the company's best interests at heart.
But John wasn't someone who could be easily manipulated.
He was tired of watching this woman play games in front of him. He looked at her coldly, "If you really cared about the company, you wouldn't have openly violated company rules by keeping someone who should have been fired."
Anna's face turned pale instantly. He already knew about her buying people's loyalty in the company?
For a moment, she couldn't find an excuse for herself. She looked at him cautiously, only to see his cold expression, as if he had seen through all her thoughts and was just coldly watching her perform.
She knew nothing she said would help now, so she could only compromise pitifully, "Fine, although Stanley acted extreme, I never told him to do that. He was just standing up for me.
If you think I should apologize to Jane to make her feel better, then I'll apologize to her.
Let's just end this matter here and not let it spread further. It won't be good for Smith Corporation's reputation if it gets out."
She looked pitiful yet righteous, as if she was making a huge sacrifice for the greater good.
John was completely out of patience. Jane was the one locked in the bathroom, Jane hadn't even complained yet, but Anna was already playing the victim.
He didn't want to waste any more words on her. He took out his phone and called Jane.
Jane hadn't gone to work today. After coming back from the hospital, she had taken another nap. She had just finished washing up with her two little ones at home and was sitting on the living room sofa, combing her daughter's hair.
Sammy was sitting on the carpet, leaning against the sofa with his legs crossed, enjoying the sunshine while playing a game. One little foot swayed in the air, completely content.
On the coffee table was a laptop with a video call to the Watson siblings on the screen.
Although the five of them were in different places, under these circumstances, this was their way of having a family reunion.
Jill looked enviously at Sophie and mumbled, "I wish Mommy could do my hair too."
Jane looked at her daughter on the screen with a gentle smile and said helplessly, "Come on, when have you ever sat still for even a minute when I did your hair?"
She was always fidgeting or running around.
Even if Jane wanted to dress this daughter up as a pretty little princess, she wouldn't cooperate. She would just grab her hair randomly and tie it in a ponytail.
Jane seriously wondered if this daughter had ADHD.
Jill grinned, "I'm just saying, just talking. I miss Mommy, but I'm not jealous of sister."
Sophie smiled shyly at this.
She wanted to say she wouldn't take Mommy's love away, that she would love her sister well as an older sister, but she couldn't speak.
Jill threw her a wink, her smug little expression seeming to say: Sister, don't mention it, I get you.
Jane watched their interaction, feeling warm and content inside.
This happy scene was something she had dreamed of countless times before.
Sammy suddenly cursed, "Damn it!"
"What's wrong?" Jane turned to look at her son.
"What kind of game did Jack design? I've tried three times and still can't get through."
Jack didn't even respond to him.
Jill lazily glanced at him, "You're just bad at it."
Sammy was immediately unhappy, "Jill, who are you talking about? Me? Bad at games?"
No one had ever called him bad before.
He didn't believe it.
He was about to press the restart button.
Jane casually glanced over and saw the game interface, surprised, "Jack, did you design this game?"
"Yeah." Jill answered for her brother.
"But this game's scenery isn't your style."
Jane understood this son of hers. He was great at making games with full creativity, smooth gameplay, and perfect user experience, but the scenery design was always lacking.
She was genuinely surprised that this time the game scenery was so cool.
Sammy grinned, "Mommy, I designed this. It has nothing to do with Jack."
"You?" Jane looked at him in surprise, "You can design?"
"Just okay." His expression was quite proud.
Jane couldn't help but laugh. Just as she was about to say something, her phone rang.
"I'll get it, I'll get it." Sammy immediately grabbed her phone and reported, "Mommy, it's Mr. Smith calling."
Jane paused, then made a shushing gesture to the four little ones before answering, "Mr. Smith, what is it?"
Her tone was cold.
John's tone was equally cold, "There's a result about you being locked in the bathroom. If it's convenient, please come to the company."
