Chapter 14
Gridlock
Eve POV
I know best not to argue with him, when he told me about the meeting, knowing it'll be pointless. For heaven sake, is this guy really going to kill me with loads of works? I've been behind my desk, working my ass out all day, trying to meet up with his needs, and all he's doing, is frustrating me?
Staring at the heap of documents laying on the desk before me, I almost burst into tears, I'm losing my mind here, and he doesn't even seem to care at all. How the heck does he expects me to do this? How does he expects me to sort all these files in an hour, before going for the meeting! How can someone be wicked more than this, huh?
Letting out a sigh, I glanced at my wrist watch, and goodness! I have only forty minutes left. Running my fingers through my hair, I picked one of the files, and started with work, not after setting my alarm. I wouldn't want to be late for the meeting. I think I'll just spend twenty minutes, working on the files, and once it's twenty minutes, I'll leave for the meeting, since the venue is not so far.
My eyes were glued to the computer screen, with my fingers moving speedily on the keyboard, while glancing at the files occasionally. This is the worst work experience I ever had in my lifetime, but I'm not going to complain though, I'm doing this for his dad, and not him. The old man is just like a dad to me, he trusts me alot, and made me promise him that I'll take care of his company, even in his absence, which I promised. If only I had known thing was going to turn out this way, I would never have promised him, if I had known he was going to will his company to his asshole son, I wouldn't have made the mistake of promising him, and now I don't want to go back on my words.
After what seemed like forever of working nonstop, the sound of phone alarm distracted me, and I didn't need anyone telling me that it's already time for the damn meeting. Letting out a sigh, I stared at the heap of documents on my desk, even if I have sort some of it, anyone would think that I haven't touched it considering how crazily many they are. Just why the heck will he always wants me to sort files of a whole month, in just a day? I mean, who does that?
I groaned tiredly, as I stretched my arms above my head, before yawning. I'm so damn hungry, I haven't had anything to eat since morning, if I had known I was going to be met with this misfortune, I would've had breakfast before I left home.
Shutting down my desktop, I stood up tiredly, and arranged my bag, before grabbing my phone from the desk, after which I headed to the door, and in the next seconds, I was already on my way to the elevator.
Stepping into the elevator, the door rolled closed, before it started moving, and in a few minutes, the door rolled opened, as I was welcomed with the lobby of the last floor, and without wasting time, I stepped out of it, and walked elegantly to the exit door, before walking out of the building.
Stepping out of the building, I walked over to the parking lot, and hopped in on my black jeep, before dropping my handbag on the passenger seat, after which I ignited the car engine, before driving out of the compound, and soon I was already on my way, going to the damn meeting. Jayden is an asshole, an annoying jerk, who wants nothing, but just to see me sad, he can keep up with this, but when I start with him, he'll sure know what real frustration is, he will sure regret ever crossing path with me, but for now, he can keep up with this shit.
After driving for ten minutes, I almost cringed, as I was welcomed with tons of cars on a queue on the road, while the traffic light had a red light. Damn! There's gridlock, how the heck am I gonna keep up with time now?
I groaned frustratingly, as I hit the steering wheel. Damn! What the heck am I going to do now? Taking a glance at my wrist watch, I threw my head back in anger and frustration. Just the thought of being late for the meeting, and the thought of the work I still have, waiting for me at the office, keeps driving me crazy. I can't believe this is happening to me, I should've just agreed with dad, when he said to take over his company, and here I am today, being frustrated by some idiot, urgh!
Ten minutes passed, and nothing seemed to be happening. For goodness sake, what the heck are those damn engineers doing? I think I'm losing my mind here, it's already time for the meeting now, what do I do?
"Shit!" I cursed under my breath, as I took a glance at my wrist watch. I'm already five minutes late. I pressed the honk, and it made a loud sound.
"Can you fucking do something about this damn logjam? I'm running late for an important meeting." I yelled out, as I stocked out my neck through the window of my car, while pressing the honk.
"This lady is crazy." The little boy in the car next to mine, said, and I couldn't stopped myself from glaring hard at him.
"Your momma is crazy boy, don't get on my nerves, I'm already pissed." I snapped at him.
"Wow." He pursed his lips, and faced his front. This whole thing is driving me crazy, and this little boy is adding to my problems, I'm sure gonna kick his ass if he tries shit with me again.
After forty minutes of being held in the damn gridlock, the shit was finally sorted out, and everyone drove away. In less than ten minutes, I drove into the restaurant, where the damn meeting was supposed to hold. Driving into the compound, I parked neatly at the parking lot, and made to get rid of my seatbelt, when my phone came ringing.
Bringing it out of my bag, I rolled my eyes, seeing the caller to be Jayden, before I swiped the answer button.
"Do you know how much you just made me lose?" His voice thundered over the phone...
