Chapter 173 A Lot in Common
Chapter 173 A Lot in Common
Asher's POV
It took me three minutes to realize that the rain was getting heavier and wasn't going to stop anytime soon. Torrent was crying happily in Rocha's hands as they hugged each other as if their lives depended on it. It was as if they had forgotten that we existed.
The door of the car conveying the president and his mate which I was driving opened and the president's mate was out of it in a flash running towards me. Realizing what she was doing I quickly walked towards her to stop her from going any further.
'She is going to drown us. She has to stop crying. Else there will be a flood,' the president's mate shouted as I got to her. The rain was getting heavier.
'What do you mean?' I asked frowning. I had to shout so loud for her to hear me because the rain was getting heavier by the minute.
'Torrent has to stop crying, else there will be flooding,' she shouted.
'You mean she is the cause of the heavy rain?' I asked.
'Yes. The worse her tears, the worse the rain and it could turn to storm in a bit,' she answered wiping the rain from her eyes. She was as drenched as any of us.
I turned away from her and walked briskly to where Rocha and Torrent stood embracing each other.
'Rocha. Your mate needs to stop crying, else the rain will not stop,' I said but he paid me no heed.
'What are you talking about?' Ian asked. He heard me clearly since he was standing very close to them.
'Her mother said she is the reason why it is raining so hard. She also said it will soon turn into a storm,' I said and Ian's eyes widened in surprise.
'Rocha started the rain,' Ian said.
'But she is making the rain worse, according to her mother,' I said to Ian then paid attention to Rocha and Torrent.
I placed a hand on Rocha and shook him by the shoulder vigorously. He opened his eyes and let go of Torrent as he raised his eyes to meet mine. Torrent was still crying and true to her mother's words, the rain was beginning to bring in a strong wind.
'Your mate needs to stop crying, else we will have a storm on us,' I shouted for him to hear me.
He looked surprised but he didn't dwell on it as he turned to Torrent and started whispering in her ears. How he knew what exactly to do was beyond me. But the rain started calming down and it then turned into a drizzle. By then, the president himself was also standing in the drizzle, drenched. He must have gotten down from the car when I turned my back on his mate.
'Can we go now?' I asked when I was sure the rain wouldn't start again.
Rocha nodded at me but Torrent wasn't meeting my gaze. She was probably embarrassed at the way she jumped at Rocha.
Rocha and Ian joined the president's children in their car. Rocha sat with his mate and her sister in the back seat while Ian sat in the front passenger seat and then we proceeded into High Moon.
'How did you know that Torrent was the reason why the rain was getting worse?' I asked the president's mate as we drove towards High Moon.
'Can I trust you with that Asher?' she asked.
'Rocha is a part of the golden wolf team just like me and he is a good friend of mine. Whether you tell me or not I will find out. I can be trusted, believe me. I will never jeopardize what I was born to protect,' I said.
'Fine. The day Torrent was born, it was raining. The moment she came out and started crying the rain got worse and it became flooding because normally new newborns cry for a while before they quiet down. The rain didn't stop until she stopped crying. Everywhere was flooded,' the president's mate explained.
'It could have been a coincidence,' I said to prompt her to continue.
'That was what we thought too. We named her Torrent due to how much it rained the day she was born. But as she began to grow, it happened repeatedly and we began to suspect that she wasn't an ordinary child. So one day when it was raining peacefully, I intentionally collected her toy and made her cry. Before we knew it, it was almost becoming a storm outside. So I returned her toy and at that very instance we confirmed our suspicion.'
'Wow. You must have been shocked,' I said imagining what they must have felt about their suspicion being confirmed.
'We were more scared than shocked,' the president said. He had been quiet all through our conversation.
'Scared? How? Why?' I asked.
'We had to protect her. We couldn't afford to let anyone in on our secret because of the fear of being stigmatized at first then the fear of her becoming a weapon in the hands of evil people,' the president's mate answered.
'I just hope her mate will accept her for who she is. I had hoped over the years that her mate would accept that his mate wasn't ordinary and be happy with it. It had always been my worst fear,' the president said.
'You both should have known that a girl like that cannot be mated to an ordinary person,' I said grinning.
'What do you mean?' The president asked.
'With all due respect sir, you will soon find out but until then, keep your hands crossed. But one thing you should know is that no one on the Golden Wolf team is ordinary,' I said maintaining my grin.
'I can judge that from the way you guys fought. I have never seen anything like that before,' the president said.
'That, Your Excellency, is the tip of the iceberg,' I said as my grin widened.
We fell into silence as we continued the journey. The rain had stopped since and we had no further stops till we got to High Moon.
When we got to High Moon, we went directly into the house that was prepared for the president and his family. The house was close to the pack house.
By the time we got to the house, we had a small crowd waiting for us. The Alpha, Dad, and the golden wolf team were waiting for us.
The instant I got out of the car, Dawn ran towards me and hugged me so tightly that anyone watching would have thought we hadn't seen in months. I held her close as I inhaled her smell before she realized I was wet.
'Ouch. You are so drenched,' she said trying to get out of the embrace but I held on and chuckled.
'Exactly how I would want you to be when I have you tonight,' I whispered in her ears before letting go.
'You are so full of yourself. Who told you I would let that happen,' Dawn said feigning disgust. Her clothes were wet from the hug and her chiffon top was clinging to her skin.
'You and I know that all I have to do is look at you and that is all,' I said and winked at her before walking towards Maureen on the porch where she was welcoming the president's family.
'You have done well Asher. You and the other soldiers should go and change from your wet clothes. We will see later at the Alpha house,' Maureen said as her golden eyes danced beautifully.
'Thank you, Your Majesty. We are here to serve,' I said grinning at her.
'Alan?' The president's sudden gasp of surprise stopped Maureen from saying what she had to say.
'Your Excellency,' Alan said smiling as he stepped out of the doorway to stand properly in front of the president and his family.
'I thought you were dead,' the president said in amazement.
'That is what they wanted. But I am alive. Thanks to the golden wolf and the High Moon,' Alan said smiling.
'This is so unbelievable,' the president's mate said.
'You vanished and the next thing was me getting the report on my table that you became greedy and you were killed in the process of you trying to attack a pack,' the president said.
'It was all a lie, Your Excellency. Please come inside,' Alan said stepping out of the way for them to go inside.
'After I settle down, I want to hear every detail of what happened Alan, everything,' the president said.
'Certainly, Your Excellency,' Alan said following them into the house.
'Why is Rocha sticking to the side of the president's daughter like that? Am I imagining things?' Dawn asked pulling me back from the scene before me.
'My darling mate, you are not imagining things. Rocha found his mate and coincidentally they have more in common than meet the eyes,' I said winking at her as I made my way to the car.
'Hey, come on slow down. Tell me everything,' Dawn said pulling at my hand.
'On one condition,' I said raising a brow.
'What condition? Tell me what you want and I will do it,' Dawn said.
'You will leave this place with me right now and also follow me to get the soldiers back to the old Alpha house. Then go home with me, have a bath with me and you will permit me to do to you whatever I want,' I said looking at her keenly.
'Done,' Dawn said without waiting for me to finish my sentence.
'I thought Lucia was the nosy one who likes getting all the available gists,' I said raising a brow.
'Let's just say these things rub off on people. Don't you think?' Dawn said then sashayed to the car, entered, and waited for me to join her.
I chuckled as I entered the car. I couldn't complain actually. I had been blessed with a mate that suited me perfectly. We might have had a rough start and things might not be where they were supposed to be yet, but I believed that we were getting there.
When the golden wolf will finally sit at the citadel then we can all get our lives into perspective. But before then, I intended to enjoy whatever time I had with my mate.
