Maureen's POV

The moment I saw the way Rocha stood glued beside the president's older daughter, I knew he found his mate. I was elated for him. He had been through a rough patch in life protecting what he didn't know was real or not. He deserved all the happiness.

'I know we are not safe yet but I want to thank you so much for deeming it fit to be gracious my family Alpha,' the president said to the Alpha as we entered the house prepared specifically for the president's family. They were all drenched from the rain except the younger daughter.

'It is a pleasure, Your Excellency. Feel at home and you can banish the thought that you are not safe. I have soldiers on standby to parade this house to keep you and your family safe.

'It is obvious that your older daughter is mated to my team member so a threat to you is a threat to me. I take care of my own, Your Excellency,' I said looking at Rocha and Torrent's joined hands with a smile on my face.

'Your Majesty, please don't call me that. I am no longer the president of the Wolf Council. I just want to live my life now and keep my family safe. Thank you for considering us a part of you now,' the president said to me with a look of seriousness.

'I promised you that you will be the president of the Wolf Council again when I sit at the citadel and I am reiterating that now. You will be the president again. Be rest assured, I said looking at the president in the eyes but he couldn't hold my gaze for too long. He looked away after some seconds.

'Thank you, Your Majesty. I appreciate this a lot, 'the president said with his gaze on the floor.

'I am more than grateful Your Majesty. I don't know how to express how happy I am right now,' the president's mate said and I nodded in acknowledgment of her appreciation.

'I will excuse you now so that you can get into dry clothes and settle down. See you later,' I said to the president and his mate before turning to Rocha with a teasing smile, 'See you around Rocha,' I said and winked at him. He blushed and returned my smile.

Dominus, Ian, Lance, Lucia, Alan, and I left the house without Rocha. Whatever his decision was whether he would stay with his mate or bring her back to the house, we will get to know later.

'I guess Asher and Dawn left already, 'Lance said casting a glance around.

'Were you expecting them to still be somewhere in the compound?' Lucia asked with feigned surprise.

'I thought he might want to feed us back on how things went,' Lance said shrugging.

'Didn't you see the way Dawn jumped on him when he got down from the car, I bet they are going at it already,' Lucia said as we got to the cars.

'Don't be ridiculous Lucia. Asher will want to get his soldiers settled first,' Ian said.

'And after that?' Lucia asked Ian.

'I can't say,' Ian said then entered the car.

We all entered the cars so we could leave. We dropped Alan at the former Alpha house where all the other golden wolf soldiers were before heading to the Alpha house.

We entered the house and I excused myself from the others because I needed to see the Luna. I had promised that I would come to her room when I returned.

'I still find it difficult to adjust to your hair and eye color. It still startles me when you poke your head in the doorway like that,' the Luna said the moment I stepped into her room.

'You will get used to it eventually,' I said chuckling. 'Where is mum? I thought she was with you,' I said taking my seat on the bed opposite her. She was sitting on a chair close to the bed.

'Are you joining my mate to make me feel like an invalid?' The Luna asked raising a brow.

'No, I am not. I am only wondering where she is,' I said putting my hands up in the air.

'She went out with my mum,' the Luna answered and yawned tiredly.

'Are you tired?' I asked worriedly.

'No, I am not tired. The thing is I sleep a lot these days. It seems that the heavier I grow the more sleepy I feel,' the Luna answered.

'You look so beautiful though. I just hope I get your gene when I eventually decide to raise little Lance and Maureen,' I said.

'You would be so beautiful looking all pregnant with those golden shining eyes and that celestial-looking hair. Oh! I can't wait to see you that way,' the Luna said dreamily.

'Don't be too hasty mum, cause I am not in a hurry to become pregnant. I have a heavy task ahead of me,' I said sighing.

'If the feeling I am having is anything to go by, it will soon end. And you will come out triumphant,' the Luna said looking optimistic.

'When are you due?' I asked.

'In two months and a half,' the Luna replied smiling.

'I hope this whole thing will be over by then and we can welcome the twins into a chaos-free atmosphere,' I said.

'The way to success is a very tough one. You will win this one, no matter how tough it is,' the Luna said looking hopeful.

'Thanks, mum.'

'You are welcome.'

'You said you wanted to see me so that we could talk. Hope all is well mum?' I asked and I frowned when I saw her smile widen mischievously.

'I hardly see you and Dominus anymore these days. So I decided to tell you that so that you can come to see me when you have a little time on your hands,' the Luna said and I threw my head back and laughed hard. I had always thought Lucia was the queen of drama.

'Okay, mum. I am here now. What can I do for you?' I asked raising a brow.

'You can sit there and not say anything the whole day and I still will be okay with it,' the Luna said making me laugh again.

The day had been filled with a lot of anxiety and worry. It was a good thing that I had time to laugh. I removed my shoes and relaxed against the headboard to signify that I had time to talk to her.

She smiled in appreciation and we talked about a lot of things before the Alpha returned. We ate our dinner together and when the Alpha returned I excused myself and left her room.

I met Dominus on the stairs as I was going downstairs to get a cup of water. He sighed in relief when he saw me coming down the stairs.

'I was about to go get you from mum's room actually,' Dominus said.

'Why?' I Asked raising a brow.

'I heard her saying she wanted to see you about something important in the morning and I knew it was just a bid to lure her there and not release you on time,' Dominus said.

'You are right but I also need that time away from all the stress that comes with my destiny. Where is everyone?' I asked.

'In the kitchen. Lance wanted to mind link you but I told him that it was of no use and only the physical presence of someone can get you out of there,' Dominus said.

'The Alpha returned. It was enough excuse to leave,' I said.

'I thought it might not be enough,' Dominus said shrugging.

We got to the kitchen and I was surprised to find Rocha and his mate in there.

'Rocha, I wasn't expecting you back, at least not tonight,' I said in surprise.

'My place is by your side golden wolf. I pledged to see you to the citadel. I am not ready to back down now,' Rocha said standing from his seat.

'But your mate...'

'But his mate understands the importance of your mission and how important he is in your team. I wouldn't dream of taking him away from your side,' Rocha's mate said, interrupting what I was about to say, and then came to stand in front of me with her head bowed. 'I am Torrent and it is my pleasure to meet you,' she said raising her gaze to meet mine.

'The pleasure is all mine Torrent. Thank you for making Rocha happy. He deserves it,' I said.

'I am the lucky one, Your Majesty. Mated to someone in your team is like a dream come true,' Torrent said smiling happily with a look of hero worship in her eyes.

'Thank you Torrent,' I said as we both walked back to take our seats.

Shanty came in at that moment and my back went stiff. I don't know why she discomfited that much. I have tried to hide it from everyone on the team because I didn't want to make their distrust of her stronger.

'Rocha, Ian said you found your mate,' Shanty said smiling innocently. She looked harmless but I don't know why I feel she couldn't be trusted.

'Yes. Shanty. Torrent, meet Shanty. Shanty, this is my mate, Torrent' Rocha did the introduction.

'Torrent. That is a very unusual name,' Shanty said thoughtfully.

'I get that a lot,' Torrent said smiling at Shanty.

'Ma'am sir. There is something you have to see on the television,' a staff ran into the kitchen with panic in her eyes.

We all rushed into the sitting room to see that the new president was addressing the press with their fake golden wolf sitting on a throne beside him.

'Yes. We are declaring war on High Moon. They are traitors. They are trying to confuse the entire wolf community by presenting a girl. A mere girl as the golden wolf. To make it worse, they are harboring her and her cohorts including the former president and his mate,' The new president said looking very angry.

'Is there any redemption for High Moon?' A reporter asked.

'Yes. The golden wolf in his kindness is giving High Moon and the fake golden wolf one week to surrender. Else there will be dire consequences. We will match on High Moon and level it like the traitors they are,' the new president answered.

'The fact that they were not able to kill the president must have pushed them over the edge,' Asher said standing probs his hands folded on his chest.

'You heard the man Asher. He wants war. Let's give it to him, and inform the golden wolf army. We have one week,' I said.

The fake and traitorous president of the Wolf Council wanted war. And that is exactly what he will get. He asked for it!
