Chapter 48 Guilt

Chapter 48 Guilt
Guilt
Ethan’s POV
(Before everything happened)

I had received the call from Adrian Cole’s office earlier. Or rather a summon. But if didn’t have time to deal with it. Or with my baby ass sister who had stormed out here a while ago.

I had just come back from a work trip and had made my way to Rena’s apartment. I didn’t know why I was so hung upon her. I could easily forget about her and move on. Just like how I had been with every other girl. I wasn’t a saint. And I had never thought of commitment.

But Rena seemed to have altered my life’s course.
I walked into her apartment which was wide open for a reason. I initially thought that maybe there was a break in and she was forced to hide. But nothing seemed out of place.

I searched every corner of the house but didn’t find anyone. That was until I walked into the bathroom and saw the numerous pregnancy tests that were littered everywhere. Each bearing a positive result.

I dropped the test in my hand and glanced around. Unable to process a single thing. That was when I saw the plushie Lila always carried around her on the floor.

Anger rushed into my veins as my head snapped.

She was pregnant. That little twerp was pregnant and I was pretty damn sure who the father of her child was.
I pulled my phone out of my pocket and dialed her number and she ended up picking on the fifth ring.

“Where are you?” I hissed as I felt like teleporting myself to her location. And I wasn’t sure what I would do when I finally saw her.
“I went out with Rena. What’s up?”

So Rena indulged in her with this shit?
“Where are you is a simple question?”

“I can’t tell you where I am right now. It’s not up to me to disclose it”
“Lila Monroe I swear if I find you myself…”

“I’m with Rena and hold on, I’m no longer a child”
“Then fucking tell me where you are!”

“I will have to ask Rena that…”

She covered what I assume was the mouthpiece of her phone but that didn’t seems to stop the mumbles that was as clear as day.
“We are the abortion clinic, two towns away from ours. I brought Rena for an appointment”

My phone slipped off from my hands as it crashed.
Rena… Abortion clinic… Appointment…

The only way I could interpret it was Rena being pregnant with my child. The lady I couldn’t get off my mind had my seed inside her.

A surge of happiness into me as I could barely hold it in.
My baby… I’m going to be a father…

And that was when the second part sank in. An abortion clinic. She wanted to get rid of our baby. And Lila took her there. And judging by her tone, she didn’t know that Rena’s baby was mine.

I entered my car and zoomed off. I entered their current location after I traced it to Lila’s phone. I had told her to always leave in her location in case I needed to find her. She had resisted at first saying I was caging her. And now it was working to my own advantage.

I drove off as I prayed to the heavens to delay them till I got there. I was going to be a father. Rena will be the mother.
This made me clarify all the foreign emotions I always felt when it came to her. I loved Rena Dubois.

I always thought I was annoyed with her cause of all the bickering. But when I finally recalled everything that happened between us, it only solidified it.

I was madly in love with her. And I had pushed her away with my words and actions.
‘Please let her and our baby be safe. I promise to make it up to her. But please keep her and our baby safe’

I silently prayed to the heavens and all the gods that existed. I couldn’t lose her. Not again. And I couldn’t bear the loss of our baby.
If by the time I got there, and our baby was gone, I wouldn’t even be bold enough to scold her. If I had created a safe space for her, then I would have been the first person she would call. She would have trusted me with it instead of bottling up her emotions.

I would strive to be better. I would be the peace she needed. All I needed was her safe and sound. And even if she was done with the procedure, I prayed she would still be safe. And then I would love her more even.

I got to the clinic and rushed in to hear the number 42 being called. I saw Lila help a forlorn Rena up. Both of them dressed in scrubs.

It only confirmed that Rena was the one pregnant.
“Wait. Stop!!”

They didn’t seem to hear me as the both of them walked into the ward.
I took off after them, hot in their heels. Determined to stop them.

And I was glad I did.
“Stop!!”
I opened the door and saw the doctor holding his scalpel. Ready to do the deed.
Both of them turned to me but I didn’t care less as I walked to Rena.

I held onto her hand and tightened my hold on her.
“Don’t do this. Please”
