Chapter 49 Guilt 2
Chapter 49 Guilt 2
Guilt 2
Ethan’s POV
(Before the accident)
“Please. I will do anything. But don’t do it”
“What the fuck is going on here?”
Lila seemed stunned as she glanced between the both of us. It only proved my thoughts of she not knowing that the baby was mine. That I had something to do with Rena.
I was hurt that she would hide something this big from Lila. And I was also hurt that she had thought of getting rid of our baby’s without telling me a single thing.
Was I so insignificant?
“Rena. I want to as you something once more. Who is the father of your baby?”
It seemed I was right. Lila didn’t know about it.
I muted my surroundings as I focused only on her. Just her. I raised my hand and touched her tummy. Excited that she was pregnant with my child. My baby. No one else’s.
“Yes. He is the father”
I heard Rena finally admit and a smile broke out on my face.
Lila got pissed off and continued yelling. And that was when I flipped.
I couldn’t stop the guilt that flashed through Rena’s face. To me, she had her own reasons. And they were all justifiable.
And now that Lila was dampening her emotions the more. Unable to take it anymore, I did the unthinkable.
I slapped her.
I don’t know why I did that. I shouldn’t have done that. But I willed myself to believing I was right.
I was, she offended Rena. So she deserved it.
She glared at me and Rena, screamed fuck it and stormed off.
Rena wasn’t happy about it. She threw her face to a corner and folded her arms to avoid talking to me. But to me, she was cute throwing tantrums.
I gave the nurse a tip and carried her out bridal style. Her scent invading my nose. I didn’t know if it was me, but she had a hint of baby smell attached to her.
“Put me down Monroe. I don’t want anything to do with you. And who do you think you are to cancel my appointment?”
“Your baby daddy. Your boyfriend or your husband. I can be anyone you need me to be. And you are not aborting our baby. We will raise the child together. Both of us. And nothing you say or do is going to push me away”
“Baby daddy my foot. Now you want to step up?”
“Listen”
I dropped her on the hood of my car, parted her legs, stood in between and maintained eye contact with her;
“I was wrong. I shouldn’t have acted like I forgot about that night. I don’t know how to make you believe it but that night was the best night of my life. You are the best thing that has ever happened to me and I will be damned if I let you walk away from me”
“I would have believed you Monroe. But you just raised your hand to your baby sister. Your own sister. What’s to say that you won’t do the same to me?”
“I only did that because…”
“There’s no excuse to justify what you did. Call your sister and apologize. She cannot be wronged by two people she trusts”
“You owe her no explanation”
“I owe her tons of it. I knew how she felt about me aborting my baby”
That particular word stung me like a bee.
“And yet I dragged her with me knowing fully well that the baby inside me would grow up and call her aunt. I knew but in my own twisted manner I wanted to have my own petty revenge…”
She looked down as her tears fell.
“She trusted me. She always had my back. And I lied to her. I made her wrap herself in a ton of guilt as I watched her suffer”
“Rena don’t blame yourself. All of this is my fault”
“Heck yeah it is. Did you think I would take the fall alone? If you hadn't acted like a dick then none of us will be in this mess. Now swallow your excuses and freaking call your sister”
I picked up my phone and called Lila but there was no response. I looked at Rena and called Lila about five more times and there was still no response.
This was the thing about Lila. She always behaved like a child when the situation didn’t call for it.
“See. She doesn’t want to answer my calls. So it’s not my problem”
“You truly are an idiot”
She fumed as she shoved me back and climbed down in one fell swoop. I got worried and rushed to hold her but she shoved me again once more and glared at me.
“This is the thing about you. Always undermining your sister and treating her like she doesn’t have any opinion. I have seen her tackle life problems without anyone’s intervention. Do you know why? Because she never saw the need to call you.
And now I think I understand why. Because you never believe she can do something good and reasonable in this life without you butting in. And now, even when she supported me, her only friend.
Don’t you get it? Lila wouldn’t even blink an eye if I asked her to raise this child as her own. That’s how much she loves me. And I knew that. I knew how much she freaking loved me and I used that to play her.
How do you think she would felt that not only did both of us not trust her enough to tell her the truth but I even ended up dragging her to abort a child that would call her aunt in the future.
What if I lied and told you she knew but still brought me here?
What if I lied to her and claimed I didn’t know the father?
I knew all these and still made her go through it. I know fully well how much her conscience would beat her up for it. And to me…
It was a sort of payback to you. By making your sister suffer, paying back the same pain I felt. And it was wrong.
So in as much as I would blame you, I have a hand in all these as well.
I pushed her to that limit. Of thinking that no one around her was trustworthy.
It was my fault and no one else’s.
So man up and call her so we can fix this”
She entered the passenger seat and slammed the door as I calmly stood there. My memories with Lila popped up in my head and I was stunned. I had never raised my hand on her. Regardless of whatever she did and now I recalled her broken look as she stormed out.
I brought out my phone once more to call her but an unknown call came in. I picked it up and didn’t expect the next line I heard.
“You have less than thirty seconds to tell me whatever happened between you and my Princess”
Adrian Cole’s voice came in. He sounded tense and annoyed but seemed to also be filled with rage.
And for him to personally call concerning Lila, then something had gone wrong.
A sense of dread slowly creeped in as I looked at Rena.
What in the world have I done?
