Chapter 47 47
Chapter 47 47
VALERIA'S POV
My throat felt dry as I looked at the scene in front of me from the hallway. My eyes were wide and my legs felt too weak to carry my weight. I had to look away for a moment to breathe. If I didn't I knew I would end up choking on my own breath and making a complete fool of myself in front of them.
I watched everything. She had her hand around his wounded hand as she slowly let loose the bandage to expose the wound. He has his eyes focused on the wound while hers were trailing, might I add.
My eyes never left them as she brought out a small transparent bottle that contained an equally transparent white liquid. Slowly, with more grace than was necessary, she uncapped the bottle, tilted it, and let the liquid pour out of the container into his wound.
From where I stood, too far away to have a better glimpse, I couldn't tell what was going on with the wound. But after a couple of minutes, he slid his hand away from her, shook it around, and behold, there was no sign of injury whatsoever. The skin was clear again. Not even a scar.
She healed him. Something his group of healers has been struggling to do for the past week. An injury that he acquired because of me was healed by his ex.
At that moment, I realized something. There was actually more to their bond than met the eye. They aren't just friends and exes. They belong to the same species, limited in number, which means no matter how nasty it is between them, they do still have to stand for each other.
That little pep talk helped my cause greatly. I cleared my throat to get rid of the lump of jealousy in it as well as to announce my presence. Then I walked into the room calmly. He might have no string attached to his intentions, but she does, and the first thing I am going to do to kake sure she doesn't get to me, is act like she doesn't get to me, even when she does.
“Vi.” His face brightened up as I approached them. He looked at ease, despite being in an almost intimate position with something he knew I despised. It’s like he trusted I would understand there was nothing really going on. I swallowed another lump threatening to cause a hitch in my breathing as I moved toward them.
She doesn't think to step away, even while I silently glare at the little space between them as I reach them. He was seated, so obviously she should be the one doing the moving.
“I thought I had found you in here.” My voice sounded much lighter than I felt within.
“I have been for a while, you need something?” He asked, sounding ready to fulfil my wish, which melted my heart.
“Not really. I just wanted to see you.” I sighed and let myself lean against the other side of him, earning a scoff from the bitch. Then I heard her mutter. “Clingy much.”
I couldn't bring up the main reason I showed you, not while she is in here. That will only fuel her confidence even more. The last thing I wanted was for her to understand that she was indeed getting to me, just as she wanted.
“Camilla?” Lucius addressed with a warning tone. She tossed her head away from us but didn't move one bit.
“Your hand is all healed up.” I ignored her completely, knowing what she craved was my annoyance.
“Yes, Camilla did the job. She has a fair knowledge of healing. Apparently, far more than I assumed.” He lightly responded.
“I am glad you don’t have to walk around in a bandage, with pain, or the scar even,” I stated honestly.
“It’s nothing new really.” He shrugged. “You could have waited for me to return to the chamber, or you missed me too much for that to be the case.”
“I guess you could say that.” I laughed, my expression mirroring his. “I was just wallowing around the palace with practically nothing to do and I thought to myself, why not come see my mate? He will give me everything I want and more.” I winked at him purposely and he arched his brow suggestively.
If our previous acts didn't get to her, this sure did. Because she scoffed and walked away, muttering something about “worthless pile of shit.” as she went. I waited until she was completely out of the room before I turned to my mate, who had his eyes on me all through.
“Told you to act like she doesn't exist. That’s the only way to win against her.” He winked and pulled me to his lap. “Now come here and tell me what the problem is, you looked beaten up standing by the door.”
“Wait, you saw me.”
“Of course I do. What kind of leader would you talk to me for if I weren't aware of my surroundings? I just wanted you to show your presence in your own terms. And you did. You handled her really well.”
“That is just for now.” I sighed and let myself rest into him. “I am not sure I will be able to keep up this act when she has her room right opposite mine.”
“You should know by now that she is only doing that to provoke a reaction out of you. If you didn't give her one, trust me she is going to get bored and look for another victim.”
“What the heck kind of life is she living, feeding off the misery of others?” I couldn't help but shake my head.
He laughed. “Always has been. But you also have to know that she is all bark no bite. Don’t get intimidated by her.”
“I won’t.” I nodded. “Not after this.” If she wants to be a bitch, I am so ready to ignore her barks.
