Chapter 46
VALERIA'S POV
I heard the commotion going on right outside my door. And at first, I decided not to check it out, but when it persisted, my curiosity got the better of me, and I pulled myself up from the bed and out of the room.
I was almost hit with a broomstick held by a maid as I opened the door a little too fast, but I managed to dodge right on time.
“Oh…so sorry. I wasnt expecting anyone to step out of the room.” Her face looked just as apologetic as she sounded.
“It’s fine.” I smiled. “I was wondering what was going on out here and I decided to come up here and check.” I studied my surroundings. There were about six maids and they all held one or two cleaning supplies. The door opposite mine was open, and they were cleaning it.
“Yeah…Camilla instructed that the room should be cleaned out for her before she returned from hunting.”
“This particular room?” I arched my brow, not trying to hide the offensiveness in my tone.
“Yeah yeah. We have no idea someone was in your room but we will try to be as quiet as possible. Sorry for disturbing your peace.” She interpreted a moody tone wrongly.
I tried as much as I could to avoid this Camilla person and whatever her intentions were with me. But the more I try, the more she finds a better way to come at me. What the heck did she mean by having her room right in front of mine? There were numerous rooms in the palace, other rooms in the chamber and she still chose this one? What the heck was her problem?
“It’s no problem.” I tried to smile. “You can go on with your work, don't let me interrupt you.” I slipped passed her and went straight toward the throne chamber to find Lucius. I don't care if he is busy right now. He needs to do something about this, even if it means having me pack out of the current room I am in. I couldn't live like that.
Not that I spend most of my time in that room but still, I sometimes need my privacy, need a little time to clear my head and he away from Lucius. I need my own space. And that space is not going to be right outside that of Camilla or whatever the bitch name was.
I was so focused on getting to my intended location that I paid nearly no attention to the rest of the world. It was therefore such an easy task to have me ramming into a wall. I winced and shifted away instinctively, my hand protectively wrapping around my tummy before I could stop myself. I let go almost immediately hoping no one around har seen that. Lucius had warned me that it was for the best to keep my pregnancy away from everyone at this moment. He mentioned how it will automatically mean protecting my child. But the action of wrapping my hand round my stomach sure as heck screams pregnant lady even though there was no bump to see just yet.
When my blurry eyes had cleared enough for me to see, I swarted my gaze around to make sure I was on the clear. But instead of a wall like I had expected, my eyes landed directly on Axel. He was studying me with displeasure.
I shaped my brows in a “what?” kind of way and of course, he doesn't disappoint.
“You have the survival instinct of a baby panda.” He blurted. “If just a small hit is enough to dishevel you like this, then I wonder how you will survive a minute on a battlefield.”
“I am not on a battlefield. And in case you didn't notice, I hit my head.” I snapped back.
“Oh I noticed, you were unaware of your surroundings for a starter, then you rammed into me and you curled away like you were hit by a volcano. If I were your killer.” He snapped out a small knife from nowhere. “Then I could have ended your blissful life in less than a heartbeat.”
“I am literally…”
“I hope you are not going to use pregnancy as an excuse because I am delighted to be the one to break it to you, no enemy cares about any fucking pregnancy. In fact, they would love to know you have a weakness.”
I wasn't even going to bring up my pregnancy. Why was he always against me?
“You can go fuck yourself and whatever you believe is. I know what to do with my life. Go to hell.” I tried to slip past him but he held my hand, not forceful, just firm enough to prevent me from moving away. “Lucius cherishes you to no end. You are literally his weakness at this point. You should know that men are going to come for you. Vicious men who would be nothing short of excited to end your life. And Lucius, he wouldn't always be there to protect you. The earlier you hold onto self-defence, the better for everyone.”
“Are you done?” I tried to maintain my calm realizing how much he fed off my annoyance.
“You might be lucky once. But that doesn't mean there isn't going to be a next time. And it sure as heck doesn't mean that he would be around to save you again.”
“Thank you. Now can you let go of my hand, I have places to be, things to do that are far better than listening to you rambling aimlessly.” I fired back.
He let go of my hand, ruffled my hair, smiled, and walked away, whistling under his breath as he ambled down the hallway.
He is just so irksome that I can't even think of a better way to deal with him.
With him out of the way, I was reminded of my initial intention.
Right, the throne room is it.
