Chapter 128 Chapter 43.2
Chapter 128 Chapter 43.2
I was focused on my work when the door to my office suddenly opened. I looked up to see who it was. My husband walked in carrying some food.
“Let’s eat first. You can continue that later,” he said. I finished what I was putting into the report first so I wouldn’t forget about it later. When I was done, I walked over to my husband.
“It’s been four days since she was hospitalized. Hasn’t she woken up yet?” I asked because we still hadn’t visited her again. I don't think Macie's parents are leaving the hospital.
“Macie’s manager told me that she opened her eyes for a moment, but she hasn’t woken up again.” I could only let out a sigh. I hope she wakes up soon. The suspects were already in jail, but they still weren’t saying who ordered them to do it.
“I hope she’s fine. She also needs to see a psychiatrist, especially once she remembers everything that happened to her that night. I can’t imagine going through a crime like that myself, didn’t they have any pity for Macie?”
“They have no conscience, so they didn’t even think about it. They’re used to committing crimes. I won’t let you experience what she went through. Even if it costs me my life, I won’t let them do whatever they want to you. If only I had arrived earlier, maybe what they did to Macie could have been prevented.” He still sounded like he was blaming himself.
“Stop blaming yourself. No one wanted this to happen to her. What matters now is that she’s alive.” He simply nodded before giving me my food.
While the two of us were eating, his cellphone suddenly rang. He picked it up and answered it.
“Hello,” he said. I quietly watched him. He put his cellphone down and put it on loudspeaker so I could hear as well.
“Macie is awake, but she had to be given a sedative because she couldn’t accept that she was still alive. She said she couldn’t live with what was done to her for the rest of her life,” Macie’s manager informed us. If I were in Macie’s situation, maybe I wouldn’t want to be alive either if I had to remember what they did to me every single day, but what about the people who love me?
“Are her parents still there? Can we visit her now?”
“They’re still here. You won’t be able to talk to Macie either because she fell asleep again after being given the sedative.” Desmond nodded repeatedly.
“Let us know immediately when she wakes up and we’re allowed to talk to her.”
“Okay.” After their conversation, Desmond immediately ended the call. He could only sigh and rub his face with his hands. He really cared about her, and this wasn’t the right time for me to be jealous.
I wasn’t jealous, but why did Desmond have to blame himself when none of what happened to Macie was his fault?
Because of what happened to Macie, we still hadn’t been able to make plans for our date. Maybe because he knew that our child was safe and alive? He said he would be the one to plan everything, but until now, I was still waiting for it.
Maybe he wanted to make sure that Macie was safe and awake before he made plans for the two of us. I just hope he hasn’t forgotten that he wanted to make it up to me and our son.
For now, I needed to understand him because I couldn’t take away his concern for Macie.
By afternoon, we stopped by the hospital, with Desmond hoping that Macie was already awake. He was holding my hand until we entered the room. Macie was already awake, so she looked at us. She was leaning against the headrest.
“Desmond,” she said through her tears. We walked closer to her, and Macie immediately hugged Desmond and began crying.
I slightly moved away when Desmond let go of my hand. I could hear Macie sobbing as if she was still hurting because of what had been done to her.
“Thank you for saving me. Thank you for still coming to me. I wish I hadn’t survived,” she said between sobs. Desmond rubbed her back to calm her down.
“Don’t say that. You still need to see all the people who hurt you get sent to prison.”
“And the price for that is remembering how they violated me? How they forcibly thrust their manhood into me? How they treated me like something they could use for their pleasure?!” Macie screamed angrily through her tears while still clinging to Desmond. I could feel the pain and anger she was carrying.
“Honey, what about your mom and me if we had lost you? How would we find out who did this to you if you don’t tell us? Did you have a fight with someone? Who?” Her father asked as he approached them.
“Don’t be afraid to point them out, mija. Does Desmond’s wife have something to do with this? Was she the one who did this to you?” My brows furrowed at Macie’s father’s words.
They still thought it was me?
“Mr. Chavez, how many times do I have to tell you that my wife has nothing to do with what happened to Macie? Macie knows that.” Desmond defended me before pulling away from Macie.
Macie looked at me. There were still tears on her face, and she stared at me blankly.
“You really had nothing to do with this, Heaven?” My brows furrowed even more. I thought the two of us were already okay? Was she going to blame me for what happened to her too?
“You shameless woman! I knew it!” Mrs. Chavez was about to charge at me when Desmond immediately stepped in front of me.
“You have no right to hurt my wife. Macie, what are you saying? You know Heaven had nothing to do with what happened to you! I wouldn’t have gone to you if it weren’t for her. I wouldn’t have been able to save you if she hadn’t forced me to go to you!”
“I wish you hadn’t come to me! I wish you had just let me die there! My life is meaningless anyway because you’re no longer in my life, Desmond!” Macie cried out. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. I thought we were already okay, I thought she had already forgotten about Desmond because she was also the reason why I forgave Desmond, but why was she angry that Desmond chose me?
“My wife showed you kindness, Macie. Why are you angry at her? Why do you think she was the one who did this to you when there are so many other people you could suspect? Weren’t you also involved with another director as his mistress?”
