Chapter 127 Chapter 43.1
Chapter 127 Chapter 43.1
We visited Macie to check on her condition. Desmond wasn't able to return to the hospital yesterday because he was exhausted and sleep-deprived from staying with Macie. The two of us went to the hospital to check on her.
“Desmond, son,” a woman said as she opened the door for us. She glanced at me, but her face remained blank.
“Come in, both of you,” she replied before opening the door wider. I looked at Macie, who was still asleep until now. I could also see the bruise on her cheek, as if someone had slapped or punched her.
“How is Macie? Has she woken up yet?” Desmond asked. A man standing beside Macie’s bed turned to look at us. They looked like Macie’s parents, and they were the ones taking care of her now.
“Who is she, Desmond?” the man asked him seriously.
“She’s my wife, Mr. Chavez. Heaven Rosales,” Desmond introduced me. Macie’s parents were still looking at me seriously, as if they were angry with me. I could only look away from them.
“I wish you hadn’t brought her here. What if she was the one who did this to Macie because she was jealous of our daughter?” I looked at Macie’s mother. Anger was evident in her eyes as she stared at me. They thought I was the one who did this to Macie? Why would I ever do that to her? I wasn’t a bad person like they thought I was. Only a demon could think of doing something like this to Macie.
“Mrs. Chavez, Heaven has nothing to do with this. My wife isn’t a bad person who would commit a crime,” he said, but Mrs. Chavez let out a bitter laugh.
“We don’t know that, son. Didn’t you only marry her because you got her pregnant? That woman is a homewrecker. She stole you away from our daughter. None of this would have happened if it weren’t for that woman. Our daughter’s dreams wouldn’t have been ruined if she hadn’t been affected by your separation. Because she loved you so much, she never told us what was happening to her. She never told us that you had already married another woman. She never told us that you had gotten someone pregnant because she wanted to protect you from us. And now, you don’t want to believe that she could be the one who did this to Macie? She’s the only person I can think of who would want to hurt Macie because Macie is a huge threat to your relationship,” Mrs. Chavez said angrily and with emphasis as she looked at me.
I didn’t avoid her gaze. I believed that Macie still hadn’t woken up, which was why her parents still didn’t know what had really happened to her.
“Desmond, I’ll just wait for you in the car,” I said softly to my husband. He held my hand.
“You’re not leaving. Didn’t you want to see Macie? We’ll leave her room together.”
I looked at Macie’s mother again when she let out another bitter laugh.
“She wants to see our daughter? Why? Does she want to make sure that our daughter never wakes up?”
“Mrs. Chavez, if my wife were the one who did this to Macie, she would have done it long ago. Heaven has only just returned to this country after staying in Germany for two years. Yes, Heaven has a reason to be angry with Macie because of what Macie did to us before. Because of Macie, my wife fell down the stairs before, and that was the reason Heaven gave birth prematurely. We almost lost our child because of what happened. If Heaven were really the one who did this to Macie, she would have done it long ago because she had a deep enough reason to do so. I have a great deal of respect for both of you because I also loved your daughter for a long time, but if you can’t respect my wife while we’re here, then it’s better for both of us to leave. I hope Macie wakes up soon, and then you can be the ones to talk to her. I’m sure she knows something about who did this to her,” Desmond said seriously and blankly.
I knew he was angry because they were accusing me of being the one who did this to Macie.
“It’s better if the two of you leave. I trusted you, Desmond, but you only ended up hurting our daughter,” Mr. Chavez said angrily as he faced us.
“I have a great deal of respect for both of you. Just ask Macie what really happened between the two of us. This is all I’m going to say, even before Heaven came into my life, there was already no future for our relationship. Excuse us. We’ll just visit her when you’re not here.”
“Don’t come back. You’ll only hurt our daughter,” Mr. Chavez said furiously.
“If no one has told you yet, Desmond was the one who saved Macie. Macie was already covered in her own blood when he found her in her apartment,” I said because I couldn’t just stay silent while they insulted my husband.
“And for your information, Mr. and Mrs. Chavez, Heaven was the one who pushed me to go to Macie. If she hadn’t done that, I don’t know if we would still be seeing Macie alive,” Desmond added before pulling me out of the room.
We didn’t hear anything else from Macie’s parents. Why couldn’t they investigate first before assuming that I was the one who did this to Macie?
Even though Macie had done something wrong to me, I still could never have someone killed.
“Doc,” Desmond uttered when we crossed paths with a doctor accompanied by some nurses.
“Mr. Velasquez,” the doctor said and stopped as well.
“How is Macie? Hasn’t she woken up yet?”
“Not yet. For now, her condition is stable, but we still don’t know when she will wake up. We’ve also finished giving her the blood transfusion,” the doctor answered, making Desmond nod repeatedly.
After learning about Macie’s condition, the two of us left as well. I hope she wakes up soon, and I hope they find the person who did this to Macie.
I hope their conscience doesn’t let them sleep at night.
“Are you okay, love? I’m sorry you had to hear all of that.”
“It’s okay. I understand them. Until they find the mastermind behind what happened to Macie, they need someone to blame.”
“But it’s still not right that they think you were planning to kill Macie. I won’t let us stay somewhere where they no longer respect you. I’ll just contact Macie’s manager so we can visit her when her parents aren’t there.” I could only nod at Desmond before we left and headed to the company.
