Chapter 121 Chapter 41.1

Chapter 121 Chapter 41.1
Zachary stayed in my office, and so did Desmond. Daryl was quietly playing on the foam mat while Zachary sat beside him. He simply watched Daryl with a smile, as if he was still amazed by how many battles Daryl had survived at such a young age.
Even I still couldn't believe my son had overcome all of that. Every time I thought about it, I realized how lucky we were that Daryl hadn't been taken away from us.
When someone knocked on my office door, I looked toward it. Desmond opened it since the person wasn't coming inside.
"Sir, your snacks," Anna said as she carried a lot of food. Desmond helped her bring everything inside, then they placed it all on the center table.
"Zach, have some snacks first. My son isn't going anywhere," I said to him. He chuckled and sat down on the sofa, but his eyes remained fixed on Daryl.
"I've never really believed in miracles, but just look at that, your son experienced a miracle that a lot of people don't even believe in. He's living proof that miracles really do happen." I nodded before looking at my son.
"Anyway, so you're planning to fix your relationship for Daryl? Are you really sure about that? What if you two end up not getting along again? Co-parenting would probably be fine too," Zachary added as he looked at Desmond and me.
"Who told you we're only fixing our relationship because of our son? I love Heaven, and she loves me too. We're fixing our relationship because we both want to, not because we have to." Zachary looked at me as though he didn't believe what Desmond had just said.
"Really?" he asked me for confirmation.
"You're such an idiot. Of course it's true! Don't you believe me?" Desmond shot back.
"I was asking Heaven, bro, not you," Zachary retorted, making Desmond glare at him. I couldn't help but laugh at the two of them before answering Zachary.
"Yes, everything Desmond said is true. Everything that happened was just a misunderstanding. I thought separating from each other would solve all our problems. It turned out I was wrong," I answered.
"So when you didn't sign the divorce papers back then, you really loved her? I never really asked you much about your relationships before. I know how much you loved Macie, and I know how badly you wanted Heaven out of your life back then. This is a serious question, Desmond. Do you really love Heaven because you truly love her? Or do you just feel guilty because of what happened to her and your baby?" Zachary asked seriously.
I stayed silent because I wanted to hear Desmond's answer too. Did he love me because he truly loved me, or because he felt guilty? I also knew how deeply he had loved Macie before.
I looked at Desmond and waited for his answer. He looked back at me, then held one of my hands.
"I love you, I truly love you. Yes, I loved Macie before, but I've always dreamed of having my own family. I chose you and Daryl because you're my family. Please believe me when I say I've already moved on from Macie. If I still had feelings for her, I had plenty of chances to go back to her after you left, but I didn't. I was waiting for you to come back, not her," he answered seriously while looking straight into my eyes.
I smiled and nodded at him.
"I'm glad to hear that. By the way, how's Macie? Have you heard anything about her?" Zachary continued asking. Desmond shot him an annoyed look.
"Why are you asking me about her? We've been over for a long time. I don't care about whatever she's doing with her life anymore."
"You and Macie shared a lot together. You were in a relationship for a long time. I'm not saying you should go back to her. I'm just asking if you've heard anything because the last thing I heard was that her name was being linked to a director who already has a family. Did you know Macie got pregnant?" Zachary said seriously. Desmond's jaw tightened. I couldn't tell whether he was angry or worried about Macie.
He looked at me, then shook his head.
"You need to believe me. Nothing happened between Macie and me after I fell in love with you, Heaven. I have no idea how she got pregnant. What are you talking about?" Desmond's irritation and anger were impossible to hide. Zachary, however, remained calm. Was Zachary thinking that Desmond was the father of Macie's child?
"I knew Macie got pregnant, but Desmond isn't the father," I answered, making both of them turn to me.
"So, you knew? What do you know about her?" Zachary asked.
"Before Desmond and I fixed our relationship, I talked to her. Macie was actually the reason I decided to fix things with Desmond. She told me everything that happened back then. She explained that nothing really happened between her and Desmond. She only staged everything to win back Desmond's love. She also admitted that she lost her baby because of extreme stress. The director who got her pregnant refused to take responsibility," I answered. The two of them fell silent.
I couldn't help but feel sorry for Macie's situation. Sometimes I felt like everything that happened to her was my fault too. If I hadn't suddenly come into Desmond's life, maybe their relationship wouldn't have fallen apart. Maybe they'd still be together until now, and maybe they'd already have their own family. Perhaps Macie would still have a successful career too.
"Let's stop talking about her. It's no longer our fault whatever kind of life she chose. If she chose to become someone's mistress, that's none of our business anymore. Macie has a mind of her own, she already knows what's right and what's wrong," Desmond said.
Zachary reached for the snacks Anna had bought.
"Daryl, come here, baby. Do you want this?" I called to my son. He walked over to me and tasted what I gave him. I carried him and let him sit on my lap. Zachary was watching him again.
"By the way, how's your love life? Has anyone captured your heart yet?" I asked, changing the subject. He laughed at my question.
"Not yet, I've just been too busy with our business."
"Well, don't spend all your time working, or you'll grow old as a bachelor," I teased him. He simply laughed softly at my joke.
