Chapter 120 Chapter 40.3
Chapter 120 Chapter 40.3
I picked up a folder of documents and stood up. I glanced at my son, who was quietly playing on the floor, there was a foam mat underneath him so his knees wouldn't hurt whenever he crawled.
I left them in my office for a while so I could bring the documents Mom needed to her office. We were both busy, so I didn't stay long. I was already on my way back to my office when I saw a familiar figure. His back was facing me, so I couldn't see his face yet.
I was about to walk past him when he suddenly stepped backward, causing him to bump into me.
"Oh shit, I'm sorry, Miss," he apologized.
"It's okay," I replied as I lifted my head.
"Heaven? Is that really you?" Zachary said with a smile. I was slightly surprised to see him as well.
"Sir Zachary!" I greeted him cheerfully and smiled. "What are you doing here? It's been such a long time since we last saw each other," I said. I was caught off guard when he suddenly hugged me. I could feel his breath against my neck. I swallowed hard as his embrace tightened. Slowly, I raised my hands and gently patted his back. I didn't know if something was wrong with him or if he had simply missed me. We were never that close before, he had only been my boss for a short time.
"What the hell are you doing, Zachary? You're hugging my wife!" I heard Desmond's voice. He was behind me, that's where his voice came from. Zachary slowly let go of me, then smiled at me. I looked at him in confusion. What was that hug for?
"I'm sorry, Heaven. You've been gone for so long. Are you staying here now? I saw you once at an event, after that I got busy with our business. So you're here now?" he said happily. I glanced at Desmond when he pulled me away from Zachary. He glared at Zachary, who was still looking at me.
"She's my wife, Zachary, so back off," Desmond said firmly. His voice was filled with jealousy once again. Zachary chuckled softly.
"I'm not trying to steal her from you, Desmond. I just missed Heaven because she used to be my employee," he replied before looking at me again. "You've become even more beautiful. Your fashion style suits you now. How have you been?"
"I'm doing well. What about you? How have you been? It looks like you just came back to the country," I asked. He scratched the back of his head and smiled.
"Yeah. By the way, are you two okay now? I haven't heard anything about Desmond lately," he asked curiously.
"Why? If we weren't, were you planning to court my wife?" Desmond asked. Zachary laughed and shook his head.
"Your wife? Weren't the two of you already separated?"
"He never signed the divorce papers I sent him," I answered Zachary. He slowly nodded, then looked at Desmond.
"Do you really love her? Are you sure about her now? Is there really no place left for Macie in your heart? Are you really sure?" he asked. I looked at Desmond after hearing Zachary's words. If there was anyone who knew Desmond better than anyone else, it was Zachary because they had always been friends.
"You know everything I've been through, Zach. What are you talking about? Of course I'm serious about Heaven. I wouldn't have searched for her if I didn't love her. We also have to rebuild our family," Desmond answered. Zachary's brows furrowed even more in confusion.
"Our family? What do you mean?" he asked seriously.
"Daryl is alive, my son with Heaven is alive, so if you're planning to court or pursue my wife, stop it now. I'm not leaving her, I won't let my son grow up with a broken family," Desmond replied, making Zachary even more confused. After all, who would believe that our son had come back to life? A miracle had happened to him, and I was truly grateful to God for giving my son a second chance at life.
Daryl became my strength during the times when I was hurting. He was also the one who stayed by my side as I chased my dreams.
"Let's continue this conversation inside the office. We're blocking the hallway," I interrupted them before walking ahead toward my office. The two of them followed behind me.
"How did your son survive? Are you saying Heaven is pregnant now? Is that what you mean?" Zachary asked, still completely confused. As soon as I entered my office, the smell of Daryl's poop greeted us. He was lying on the foam mat while Jessica was changing his clothes.
"Ugh, what's that smell?" Zachary asked. After Jessica finished dressing Daryl, she picked him up.
"I'm sorry, ma'am. Daryl pooped, so I changed him here. Do you have some air freshener? I'll spray the whole office so the smell will go away," Jessica said.
"I'll do it. Just focus on Daryl," I replied as I grabbed the room spray.
"Wait, that kid is already two years old. What is he to you and Neah? Did she get pregnant again after the two of you separated? Explain this to me because I'm completely confused about what's going on," Zachary said in total bewilderment. After I finished spraying the room, I called my secretary and asked her to prepare some snacks for us.
"Even I couldn't believe it at first. Mom said Daryl was already in the morgue when he suddenly cried again," Desmond began telling Zachary everything that had happened to Daryl while I quietly listened.
"Mommy," Daryl called me, so I turned toward him. I took him from Jessica since I wasn't doing anything anyway. Desmond continued telling Zachary everything that had happened back then.
Zachary's expression kept changing, he looked amazed, confused, and as though he couldn't understand how everything had been possible.
"That was amazing," he murmured before looking at Daryl. "He already had heart surgery at such a young age? How did he manage to get through all of that? He's such a fighter."
"He's an incredible fighter. After everything he's been through, he still managed to overcome it all," I said with a smile as I gently stroked my son's hair. Zachary walked over to me and held Daryl's little hand.
"Won't he cry if I carry him?"
"He will because he doesn't know you yet. Desmond hasn't even been able to carry him yet. I don't want to force it because he might end up crying nonstop. Once he gets to know you and sees you often, he'll grow fond of you too," I answered. Zachary continued looking at Daryl without saying a word.
