Chapter 64 Why Don't You Look At me
"Well then, betrayer, let's talk," Damian said, leaning against the back of the sofa, stretching his arms, and casually resting his long, straight legs on the coffee table in front of him.
The lining of the men's suit rubbed against her skin, making her uncomfortable. But she had no choice. Alicia knelt on the carpet, knowing this wouldn't be an equal conversation. However, she remained composed. "As I said, I've hidden the ring in a discreet place. And I haven't seen Alpha Ellis or my husband Tobias safe and sound."
"Your father's village is now under the jurisdiction of my Moon Halo Pack. You know, if I want to, after the ceremony, I can easily use my Alpha Voice to command you to tell me all the secrets you're hiding," Damian said, finishing with a snort. His gaze fell on his slender mate wrapped in his black suit, and he suddenly realized that having her wear his suit jacket was a bad idea.
The size of the suit was enough to cover her upper body and private areas, leaving her long legs and feet exposed to the air. Her toes were cute, and her nails were neatly trimmed. Her kneeling position highlighted her gastrocnemius and soleus muscles. Perhaps she enjoyed morning runs or cycling.
Damian's thoughts wandered. Almost immediately, he regained his senses. Damn it! These shouldn't be his focus. Why was he suddenly curious about the hobbies of this mate who had betrayed him? It must be because he marked her, deepening their mate bond, causing him to involuntarily appreciate the charm exuding from her perfect figure.
Hell, no! He had unconsciously used positive adjectives to describe this infuriating mate. He should have brought the new pill that could erase the mate pull, though he wasn't sure if it would work on two shifters who had marked each other.
"Yes, you could do that completely. But you haven't, which proves you're still a bit decent and kind despite being an asshole," Alicia turned her head, tightening the suit around herself, and sat down on the chair opposite the sofa.
The RV fell into a brief silence. Alicia rested her chin on her palm, gazing out of the pitch-black window. She preferred to count the passing streetlights with the motion of the car rather than look at Damian's infuriating face.
"Why don't you look at me?"
"You know why."
"Because you lied to me, so you're too ashamed to face me?"
"Because I lied to you for your own good, so you're too bad-tempered for me to face you."
For his own good? What a touching excuse. Did she worry that if he, as Damian Howard, knew the whereabouts of the ring, he'd be killed by Martin or Alpha Victor? If that was the case, a rogue Alpha in the eyes of his mate wasn't an impressive and powerful character.
Moreover, his other identity, Tobias, was her husband. Had she never thought of telling her husband about the ring? Furthermore, now he discovered her special healing ability. Every time he thought of this, his anger grew. Because this woman had never thought to use her damned healing power to treat her poor husband even though she had been told Tobias was disabled for decades.
After thinking this through, Damian took a deep breath, resisting the urge to strangle the damn woman. Hang on! Didn't he smell his mate's unique scent? Damian frowned, immediately asking, "Did Lyon spray you with the odor remover?"
Alicia bit her lip upon hearing Damian's question. Did he ask this to find an excuse to punish Lyon? But didn't Damian say he forgave Lyon an hour ago?
"In your mind, I'm just a suspicious and hot-headed rogue, am I?" Damian snorted.
"If that's before tonight, then I don't think so. But in your current state of mind, I'll say yes. " Alicia replied calmly.
Another awkward moment of silence ensued. Noticing that Alicia kept staring outside the window, avoiding face-to-face conversation with him, Damian grew even more irritated.
"What's the deal with your ability to heal others? Why didn't you mention it to me?" Damian inquired.
"It's something I gained after shifting. It's nothing special," Alicia replied expressionlessly, remembering Greta reminded her not to reveal too much about her healing ability to others. 36th streetlight. Alicia faithfully counted the number of streetlights. She remembered there weren't this many on the road near Scarlett Pack, so they must have entered the highway. The driver of the RV seemed like a speed racer, just like Damian.
"Who told you that every shifter gains a special ability after shifting? Are you making up stories about your special secret while criticizing me for being a speed racer in your mind?" Damian raised an eyebrow, looking at Alicia's worried face reflected in the window, and he even noticed the light that had disappeared from her eyes. But, undeniably, after hearing about Alicia's mental activities, he found them somewhat amusing, which made his irritation with her diminish a little more.
The car window honestly presented Damian's expression to Alicia at this moment. She looked away from the window to Damian (which may let her miss at least three streetlights). Annoyed, she replied, "My parents, my pack members. Every one of them gains some insignificant special ability after shifting. By the way, you can completely stop listening to what I'm thinking if you want to."
"Insignificant?" Damian squinted his eyes, doubting the truth of Alicia's words.
No need to listen to his thoughts, Alicia already guessed what he was thinking. He doubted her words again! She hated the feeling of her mate suspecting every word she said.
She turned her head, repeating, "Yes, insignificant."
"So, with your insignificant ability, your father, your brother, and your pack members saved a considerable amount on medical expenses. Speaking of which, I now doubt even more the purpose of your marriage to the Wilton Family. You possess a special healing ability, but you never thought to use it to save your husband?"
