Chapter 65 Save her husband?
Alicia frowned, wondering how Damian knew about Tobias's illness. She had never mentioned it to him. The Wilton Family also never announced Tobias's paralysis to the public. Could it be that Damian, during this time, had his pack attack the Golden Moon Pack, captured Alpha Ellis, and then found Tobias?
"You foolish woman, while you managed to keep the location of the ring hidden from me, it seems you still haven't adapted to the effects of the mate bond, have you?" Damian mocked her stupidity upon hearing Alicia's thoughts.
Alicia instinctively covered her mouth, surprised, and watched Damian cautiously. Maybe Damian had gathered some information about Tobias and deliberately asked that question to provoke her into revealing Tobias's true condition. No, she couldn't divulge more information about Tobias and the Wilton Family to Damian, who might attack the Wilton Family once he returned to Los Angeles. The worst-case scenario was that he might have already done something to the Golden Moon Pack.
Unable to bear this mate's crazy suspicions, Damian stood up, walked to the window, and grasped her wrist. "I really can't fathom why the Moon Goddess arranged for a foolish woman like you to be my mate. I don't understand why that old bastard trusted you with the Moonstone Ring. Was it because of your useless sacrificial spirit that values your worthless family more than your safety?"
After a two-second pause, Damian sneered and answered his own question, "Of course not, given his inherently selfish nature. It should be because of your unique healing ability. Tell me the truth, you little fool, or I might just toss you out of the window because I can't stand your idiocy."
Raising an eyebrow, Alicia listened to Damian's words. She had never thought about any ulterior motives or special reasons behind Grandpa giving her that moonstone ring. However, Damian's words undoubtedly reduced her to nothing, as if Martin had given her the ring solely for that seemingly insignificant healing ability.
Oh, she forgot. Alphas as arrogant and conceited as Damian were probably adept at concocting absurd conclusions that deviated from reality based on their own whims. Just like now.
Logic told her that now wasn't a good time to argue with Damian since she was in his car, her family and pack members were held captive by his pack, but those deep blue eyes exposed the Alpha's questioning of her.
"Fine! Listen up, Mr. Arrogant and Skeptical," Alicia locked eyes with Damian, attempting to shake off his iron grip on her wrist, albeit unsuccessfully. Indignantly, she accused, "Don't mistake my ability which can only heal external injuries for some kind of superpower or panacea that can cure all ailments. Honestly, if I could heal everything, I'd choose to cure your arrogance and skepticism."
"Arrogance? Skepticism? It was you, a foolish and ridiculous she-wolf, who destroyed my trust in you. And you dare say me skeptical? Let me tell you, you've never know the kind of person I am," Damian squeezed these words out between his teeth, his jaw tightening, his breath growing heavier, and his grip on her wrist intensifying.
Hearing Damian's words, Alicia felt her eyes welling up with tears.
She should never have let this dangerous Alpha pretend to be Tobias. She shouldn't have lied to her family just to avoid disappointing her father. Now, she reaped the consequences of deceiving her family—on her father's birthday and the day before the 30th anniversary of the pack's founding, the Scarlett Pack she had lived with since childhood was now occupied by rogues and had become the belongings of the Moon Halo Pack. She personally brought back the enemy who destroyed her pack. She was a fool!
"Yes! I am foolish and ridiculous indeed," Alicia forced a bitter smile and continued, "Deciding to have you impersonate Tobias and accompany me to my father's pack was a mistake. Deceiving you was also a mistake."
"So, you finally realize your mistakes?" Damian snorted, a triumphant smile playing on his lips, like a mischievous child who had snatched a piece of candy from his partner. He was angry at her betrayal, but deep down, he hoped her admission of error would lead to a genuine apology.
Yet, upon seeing the resentment and anger in Alicia's reddened eyes, his brows furrowed, and he questioned her, "Why are you crying? You've betrayed me, but still mad at me?"
"Listen, you cocky jerk! I don't know how you found out I deceived you, but clearly, you have no clue about the damn reason behind my deception!" Tears streamed down her cheeks, leaving two trails.
She told Damian, "It's because I feared you and your wretched pack might be attacked by the Wilton Family. It's because I wanted to avoid inter-pack warfare that I chose to deceive you and continued to conceal that you're the child's father. However, my foolish and funny thoughts led to my father and pack members being attacked by your members, and the Scarlett Pack becoming territory for you rogues."
Alicia vented her grievances in one breath. As Damian absorbed her words, he momentarily froze and let go of her wrist. In that moment, Alicia forcefully pulled her wrist back and stepped away from the window, putting distance between herself and Damian. She went to the couch that was seated by Damian just moments ago.
She swore that if she stayed beside him for another minute, she might not resist giving him a good kick. She wasn't a violent girl. It's just that right now, Damian seemed awfully deserving of one.
"What did you say?" Damian processed Alicia's words and still couldn't believe what he had heard. Apparently, her confession of her betrayal earlier referred to concealing that he was the child's father.
He had misunderstood her. How could this be possible? He had never wronged anyone. Ever since he regained his shape-shifting ability and escaped the medical center, he had never been wrong.
But through the mate bond, he clearly sensed that Alicia hadn't lied to him when she was saying those words just know.
"I don't want to repeat it again. Mr. Skeptical. You wouldn't believe me anyway. If you can't..." Alicia hadn't finished her sentence when she saw Damian clenching his fist and approaching her.
Her heart pounded madly in her chest. It was over; he might open the car window and throw her out. Her phone seemed to be back at her father's house. In case she was dumped on the roadside by her ruthless mate, she could perhaps consider shifting and spending the night there, finding a way to contact Mae the next day.
Hearing her chaotic thoughts, Damian stopped just a step away from her. In that instant, Alicia felt her mate relax and watched him offer her a smile.
A smile? Yes, she wasn't mistaken. This smile lacked the malice or mockery. It was the same smile he had shown her when she reminded him about the speed limit as he sped on the highway yesterday. It was a gentle, genuine smile, even a touch of affection.
In that moment, Alicia felt a sense of daze. She even doubted whether all the chaos of the evening and the arguments between them were a figment of her imagination.
When she snapped back to reality, his handsome face and those deep blue eyes were suddenly only centimeters away from hers.
"What do..."
Alicia couldn't complete her sentence as his seductive lips kissed hers.
