CHAPTER 35. Revealed

The man nodded slightly. "I lied, as if I didn't already know you. So that you would feed me, and I asked you to bathe me. I only did it to force you to confess."

Paula bit her lip. She didn't think so.

When he asked her to feed him, she thought it was because he trusted her.

When he asked her to bathe him, she thought it was because doing it herself was uncomfortable for her.

So much so that she thought he was in a bad mood when last night he repeatedly asked her to fill the bathtub with water and bathe him.

It didn't occur to her that Mark was deliberately telling her to do it over and over again.

Seeing her remain silent, James, who was standing at the side, frowned slightly. "Mum, don't blame Mark for torturing you like that. His emotional intelligence is not good enough. If I hadn't come today, surely he would still be at odds with you. He doesn't really know how to express himself."

Paula pursed her lips. After a while, she muttered, "Actually, my temper isn't very good either."

She must have thought about it for a long time. To be honest, Mark had never given her any trouble since the day they got married.

Suddenly, he started treating her like this for the last two days. There must be a reason behind his behavior.

Before, he was so focused on how to make money that he never really considered her.

Originally, James had prepared some advice that could guide Paula, but when he heard what Paula said, he put those thoughts aside.

He then glanced at Mark, who was expressionlessly silent, before glancing at Paula again, who was silently and carefully looking at Mark. Then she shook her head resignedly.

"You two should talk. Neo and I are leaving."

"No need." James hadn't finished his sentence before he was interrupted by Mark.

"We're going back to the room."

Having said that, he said to Paula, "Come on up."

Paula immediately got up from the sofa. After saying goodbye to James, she pushed Mark's wheelchair and rushed up to his room.

Arriving at the bedroom, she let out a long sigh while closing the door. "About that... Sorry."

Standing in front of the door, Paula said with some embarrassment, "I didn't intentionally hide it from you."

"I know."

Sitting on the wheelchair, Mark beckoned to her. "Come here."

Paula pursed her lips and walked cautiously towards him. As soon as she got close, Mark grabbed her arm and pulled her back, making her fall into his arms.

Mark's gentle aura caused Paula's face to blush rapidly. The woman pursed her lips and looked at him. "I'm not too heavy, am I?"

She remembered that there were still some problems with Mark's legs.

The man was touched by his wife's concern. His voice became softer. "No, you're not heavy."

"Paula."

"Mmm?"

"Do you know what husband and wife mean?" Mark earnestly used his soft voice to ask his wife.

"I know."

Looking at him, Paula blinked her big, innocent eyes. "It's just that I feel the need to take care of you, sleep with you, and have children with you."

She said those slightly confusing words in such a naive tone that, for a moment, Mark didn't know how to answer her.

After a while, he coughed a little and replied, "That's not the only thing a husband and wife should do. It's more about mutual trust and dependence. But the most important thing is honesty."

Paula pursed her lips. She immediately understood what he was saying. She was a little embarrassed when she said, "I don't want to be a burden."

"It's been more than ten years since I lived my life without a burden." The man looked at her, and his deep voice became distant and sad.

"I have been alone for so many years that I myself wish someone could be my burden. That way, I would still have something to do."

Paula was a little confused. She thought of Mark's sad family history, and she felt bad. "Don't you think I'm very annoying?"

She had lived in silence for so many people. All these years. Suddenly, he got a wife like Paula with a group of relatives who were difficult to get along with. Surely anyone would be annoyed by that, right?

That was also the reason she kept the funny blackmail incident a secret from Mark.

"Sometimes, not having a problem is also a problem."

Paula didn't know what to say about that.

"Well, as expected, I don't understand the world of the rich."

Releasing a deep breath, he looked at her and told her everything that had happened in the past.

"Actually, it's not that I'm afraid of my aunt. I just didn't want my mom to get angry again. She's old, conservative, and superstitious. If she finds out I married you, I'm worried she'll end up in the ER again. Her health isn't so good, and I can't let her worry."

Seeing her serious face, Mark gave a small smile. "Take me to the hospital to see your mom later, okay?"

Paula quickly broke away from the hug. "No, no, no! My mom has only been conscious for a few days. I can't..."

"Maybe you underestimate your mom too much. What if she likes me after she meets me?"

The man's heavy voice was full of charm.

Paula lowered her head, still feeling worried.

"Why don't we bring James? He has been my personal physician for many years; his medical skills are among the best in Lourith City."

After a few moments of silence, Paula hesitantly nodded. "Very good..."

If her mother could really accept Mark, she wouldn't have to keep working, earning money, and receiving pick-ups from her aunt.

After being busy for the past few days, she was completely exhausted.

An hour later, Paula brought Mark and James to the hospital.

The petite woman walked in front of them, while James pushed Mark away with a face full of hatred. "Sneaky man! No wonder you allowed me to spend the night at your house yesterday. It turns out you wanted me to come with you to meet Mom!"

"You should have changed your appearance to be able to walk and take off your blindfold when meeting with your mother-in-law. At least it wouldn't make me push a wheelchair."

Mark chuckled. "If your legs are battered and broken, I don't mind giving you a few beatings."

James was silent.

At noon, Paula took James and Mark, appearing at the doorstep of Mrs. Mayer's living room.

As they came out of the lift, they happened to bump into Louis, who was going out to buy food for Mrs. Mayer.

Seeing Paula bring Mark back, he dragged her aside. "Didn't I ask you not to bring Young Master Aliston back? How can you still bring him?"

Paula let out a deep breath. "Uncle, the truth is that it will be revealed one day."

"If we have to wait for Mom to find out for herself one day, I'd better bring Mark to see him in person. I will tell him that I am very happy to have married him. I am very happy to have married him."

All the way from home to the hospital, Paula felt a little nervous, but at least she was finally relieved.

If she really had to be blackmailed by Lucy all the time, she would be more willing to let her mom finally find out.

Besides, even though Mark was blind and disabled, he was very kind to her.

His mother would understand.

Looking at that pair of sincere eyes, Louis sighed. "Alright. Your mom misses you these days. But I warn you, if you upset her and send her to the ER again, I won't forgive you!"
